As Italy is not participating in this tournament people will not go to places to watch games. The problem with Italy, is they’re not producing enough young talent, and their clubs don’t hire the best foreign players and coaches anymore. Calccio it’s behind premier league, Spanish and Bundesliga. And ON THE SAME LEVEL as the French league.

I agree 100% with Don Hutchinson's analysis of Fernando Santos's hesitation to sub out Ronaldo at the hour mark! This is Portugal's biggest hindrance. An honest and competent coach has to be able to make decisions for the greater good of the team and not pander to the ego of one player. Someone needs to check Ronaldo. As Don said this assessment isn't to take anything away from Ronaldo's contributions but he's just not being used effectively at this stage in his career. He either needs to start and be subbed when he begins to drop below the tempo or be used as a super-sub at the end of the game. Portugal has too deep of a bench, littered with hungry, capable, and now just as intelligent players that can bring a lot more to a game than Portugal ever could in the past.

Italians have no one to blame but themselves for their failure. Think about it had they done the job against Northern Ireland in the last qualifier before the playoffs, they would have qualified for Qatar automatically and Switzerland would have gone into the playoffs instead of Italy. The aging superstar conundrum in football is one of the weirdest things; I can't think of another sport where people refuse to admit/factor in that a superstar doesn't have the stamina to play at an elite level.
