- A few feature options you may not know about. There is lots to discover on Mini 4 Pro, this is a justa few items, of a llist I have been building. Let me know if you want specific feature details.
Link for rear mounted Lanyard Hook - here are 2 different ones that FIT RC-2. The first one also adds a TRIPOD mount. I have that on order, will show it in a future video:

It's pretty out there, John is it?
Sometimes Philip... sometimes! Go east 2 hours to the Atlantic Coastline, West 2 hours to the Great Smokey Mountains. 🏔
@@BlairAir Phillip with a double L, not like that other one with one L, John. Next time there I'll make sure to take that left turn.
@@PhillipSkraba Beg pardon, seriously, and genuinely -this is coming from a guy with two first names 🫣
- plus it's right THERE:
@PhillipSkraba, sheesh!
Good review
Great info in this video. Good job 👍
Well done, John! very comprehensive
Many thanks! Coming from you, that's a great compliment. 👍
Nice one.
Thanks!
Thanks for the tips John
You bet!
Great video! I learned something about cruise control that no other reviewer mentioned!
Glad you found something you can use. That's what I look for myself, and try to share when I learn!
John congrats on your Mini 4.
Great video brother, I didn't know that about Cruise Control, but I am definitely going to use that information in future flights! The night video is so amazing and I can't wait to do my night flight video!
Night mode... I could have talked about it, but the video says it all. The clean colors at night, white balance perfect. I don't do a lot of night flying but I may start doing more!
Same here... Wow!
Thanks!
@BlairAir Thank you. Question: Can you please make a video on how to engage the POI Mode and the Follow me Mode. It's not so straightforward. Thanks Curtis
@Aonexia Thanks for your request. ABSOLUTELY!
I have several Mini 4 Pro video's planned, one for Active Track 360, and yes, I will do a section on "Focus Track" - this is actually 3 Functions, all enabled when in Video recording (not panorama, Mastershots, Quickshots etc. ) when ypu either draw a box over a subject -or another way I will show - this enables "FocusTrack"
FocusTrack =
Acstive Track / Spotlight / POI
I will cover each and when they are most useful. Hopefully will be able to post later this week - my Mini 4 Pro is being returned today, I exchanged it for a few minor cosmetic blemishes. I'm very particular, lol.
Genius advice on accumulating complex stick movements one at a time until you create a complex move that just carries on!!
Thanks - it's exactly the types of software behavior I look for, you know, like "If this, then that" Mavic 3 and 3 Pro have an undocumented "double-tap" to center camera on where you double tap. Unfortunately not implemented on Air 3 or Mini 4 Pro -yet, anyway. Thanks for watching!
you have a nice place there
Thanks!
nice job, man... I gotta admit I'm even more pleased with the Mini 4 than I thought I was gonna be and I had pretty high expectations... That waypoint application at the end was enlightening. Good stuff to know, eh? I'm waaaaaaay too new to these new high tech controllers and features to be giving advice on any of that... lol I'm getting my feet wet though finally so that's what's important, right? haha
There is SO much to explore, I think about you, coming from the reliable, but much less complex software (and hardware as well) Mini 2. I say don't get anxious about it, but embrace it. Perhaps instead of jumping all over features at once, try to drill down on just RTH features. Or Active Track 360 alone could keep you involved for months! Either way, enjoy every minute! Did you get Care Refresh? I know this was $$$ already, but that's MORE reason to go another $79. At least for a year, for peace of mind. Now go explore that thing!
@@BlairAiroh that’s a great approach man. Coming from the 2 which was high tech enough for me and now the 4 pro? I’m out of my element but I figure I was able to learn the 2 as my first real drone and now that the basics are out of the way, learning features and stuff shouldn’t be too hard. All I gotta do is keep watching your stuff along with the other smarter than me people videos and I’ll be set!!! Haha. It’s definitely a lot of fun and sometimes terrifying but that’s what keeps it interesting. I know I put on a good show but I’m really an adrenaline junkie at heart. Lol. I did get the care/refresh this time. I figured I’m already in this $1250. What’s another $79???? Thanks for the advice as always, John. The drone community is a bunch of cool dudes and even a few cool chicks sprinkled in some places. Lol
@@BlairAircrap, that last line on my last reply may have offended someone. Hahahaha
Have never had an issue getting the gimbal cover on my 3. You do it quite differently.
Whatever works! I had bit factory covers for Mini 3 Pro - one with strakes that centered the camera and one that was mostly open inside. That one was easy, the centering one was a pain. I like the Air 3 one but Mini 4 Pro is a nice improvement, 👌🏻 based on how I use it. You have a method that works well, roll with it. Thanks for your thoughts!
Thanks for the update. I wonder if the RCN2 also requires calibration?
Remember RC-N2 uses your phone. My experience with RC-N1 makes me suspect far less calibration, but thats 👌🏻 not "evidence based" -lol! It may be influenced by where I put the RC-2, it it loses calibration by being near metal or in certain environments, but RC (RM330) was used about the same. I Think RC-2 is more sensitive in some underlying way.
@@BlairAir I like RCN2 for the fact that maps update instantaneously. And photos and videos can be uploaded immediately.
@@tronziebit Plus- Panorama processing and Hyperlapse processing are literally 4x faster at least. It's a huge improvement. I'm worried about my RC Pro. It was expensive but so good. But with 4 antennas- it"s unlikely to ever support O4. That means we will see an RC Pro 2, probably along with Mavic 4 - probably a year off still, I hope!
Great video, apply to all indeed should be for the waypoint you’re in as apply to all can ruin any saved waypoints you set up for repeat missions. DJI need to fix that really by offering apply to all or apply to all waypoint 2 only etc. I bet that will catch a lot of people out, it would have caught me out, now I know to not use apply to all. Do you know whether it actually does alter saves waypoint missions?
Only if you go back and change things. As I mentioned in the video, it will take the setting you last changed, and put that setting on all waypoints - only on the mission you are modifying though- won't affect other missions. If in doubt- step through the waypoints and double check before running it.
Many thanks@@BlairAir
Maybe a silly question but does subject scanning work in night mode? Active track?
The answer, I'm sorry to report, is negative. Not only is subject scanning limited ro video mode, in daylight, Night Mode, unfortunately, does not combine with other modes, so while it's really good at getting low noise, high image quality, it is limited in where it's available.
@@BlairAir I figured so given the darkened image from night time. Still thought it would be awesome. Using spotlight to slow pan or orbit around a tracked subject. All sorts of things. Maybe in the future😂. Just got the M4P. Cannot believe the technology packed in such a light weight drone👌
Can you post the link for the lanyard mount? Thanks Blair.
Just added 2 different ones. I show the 2nd one in this video. Wish I could just buy the mount, but the lanyards are nice if a bit bulky. I love the mount!
I see you have the N2 in airplane mode . Never noticed mine maybe it does. Maybe it doesn’t give it a try turn it off. The Wi-Fi does have to talk to
The drone 👍
You are correct that it has Airplane mode as an option. However, I do not have it on, nor do I ever turn it on. The RC (RM330) predecessor to this controller (running Occusync 3 or "O3" as DJI now calls it) -would drop WiFi & Bluetooth connections upon take off to try and squeeze a bit more bandwidth our of it as it was not particularly strong signal without external antennas. These measures are completely unnecessary with 04, which uses 6 (count 'em!) Antennas on the RC-2 (RC331) and RC-N2 and has the best signal I've measured yet on any DJI setup. Both my Air 3 and Mini 4 Pro have averaged 20% more range than even Mavic 3 Pro (running O3+) on the RC Pro Controller (RM510) -I wouldn't have believed it possible. My RC Pro puts out 1998 milliwatts of signal - about 4x the strength og the RC331 -not sure why DJI used "RCxxx) for the new Controller model # -it's been "RMxxx" since the OG Smart Controller (RM500) - sorry for lng reply. I get stuck into specs. I originally planned to say " you can absolutely use Airplane mode, if you want to get every possible signal boost."
Which state and town is this location?
Wake Forest North Carolina
"Just remembering to call it-or anything- '4' , is a challenge sometimes, because everything was '3' up til now..."
Wow, John. Yeah. That's how COUNTING works.
Maybe watch some old Sesame Street clips and get yourself up to speed.
Haha - yes some remedial Sesame Street is on order. My point was (lame) - that everything I currently have is a 3. A Pocket 3, Air 3 Mini 3 Pro (just sold) Mavic 3 Pro and Mavic 3. Most of which are running Occusync 3 or 3+..so yep... I keep going to say "3" - can you blame a stuck brain gear? 🧠 I'll get it. Eventually!
Be for you turn it on "The RC" keep away from cars or any metal objects
That's exactly what I was thinking may be occurring. Unfortunately, that does not appear to be influencing the controller. All of my other controllers are not experiencing this:
2 RC Pro's (RM510)
2 RC's (RM330)
4 RC-N1'S,
1 OG Smart Controller (RM500)
I keep and store all of them in similar conditions. I dont expose the RC-2 to anything different than the others, all stored in a wood chest (with small amounts of metal for hinges, lock etc.
My car has a 100% Aluminum monocoque, aluminum suspension, with STEEL subframes but as noted causes no compass calibration errors on any other drones that I own. I do appreciate the suggestion and it's a logical one. 😉
@@BlairAir If you have a compass see if there is a magnetic field. My one RC is a bit hit or miss but the other one has no problems even when I use it inside the car.
@richardradon I'll pick up a compass and see if I can figure out where it's losing calibration. Mini 4 is being exchanged for a couple of minor cosmetic defects, but Air 3's controller is the worst offender. They make you exchange the entire Fly More Combo. I wonder if there are other magnetic instruments that I could scan with (that are cheap, lol) else I will try a compass. Thanks for your thoughts on this!
I have never had to calibrate, even first flight.
Me either. It's the RC-2 Controller that needs them. Pull down the notification shade, and look for a message on the left side notification area. If the small blue arrow on the compass (that shows if you are facing the drone or away from it) - points erratically, your RC-2 compass is out of calibration. If you have the RC-N2, you are unlikely to be affected by this issue
DJI AIRCRAFT rarely, if ever require compass or IMU Calibrations. I occasionally calibrate the IMU if I get erratic flight behavior such as slightly turning when flying forward It's the RC that is constantly out of compass calibration, not the aircraft, in what I describe in the video. Thanks!
@@BlairAir I have the RC 2 controller and have never needed to calibrate.
@jimanders9971 Fair enough, and good to know. Of course multiple conditions cpuld be different between our use cases. It's not one, but both RC-2 controllers I have for Mini 4 and Air 3. To be fair, it never alerts ⚠️ that its needed. The only way to discover if a compass calibration is being called fir is to pull down the shade and check for a notification. Could you kindly check a few times over your next outings? 🙏 Windswept Robert (CZcamsr friend of mine) had them, but did not notice the notifications, as they never present anywhere else during use. Thanks!
Calibrate over and over again.
WHY, I did It once ,in three weeks and i changed locations. It says the home updated never had another problem again
Hit calibrate for the drone and spin it .If you did not do it
That should do it
Thanks for your reply. I've been flying drones many years now. In this case, it's the CONTROLLER compass that gets out of calibration, not the one on the Aircraft. To eliminate all potential causes, I have calibrated the RC-2 (RC331) compass the Aircraft Compass, Aircraft IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit), RC Controls (you have to disconnect from Aircraft, then move each controller stick button and jog wheel the full range of motion) - Also, while I'm at it, I calibrate the Gimbsl with the drone completely level, just for grins.
I found the answer why the controller compass loses calibration. It's the slight magnetic properties of my DJI Mic receiver, when mounted to the Controller "Host in" USB-C connector. Who would have guessed? 🤔 PC. Homepoint updated is a function of GPS Satellite Aquisition, not compass. Always give the aircraft enough time to gather sufficient satellites before flying off from your launch point. If it grabs a homepoint after you are flying, we'll- that's where it's going under any of the 3 RTH conditions, NOT where you launched! Thanks for watching 👀!
I never had to do a Calibration on my mini 4 pro
Me either. It's the RC-2 Controller that needs them. Pull down the notification shade. If the small blue arrow on the compass points erratically, your Controller compass is out of calibration.
You act like you're piloting a 747. We're getting ready for takeoff. It's a beautiful day the temperature is...
Like dude just fly it!
The point had nothing to do with rhe drone, but how it wasn't 98° and so humid you end up delaminating, like when skin slides off. Screw the drone, that's for MY operational condition 😅🤣
Can i have a drone you don't use please ? Im broke and wanna start a business
Go to your local bank, provide them your business plan, and request a loan. Then go here: store.dji.com
Best of luck!
@@BlairAir im to young for a loan my mom said, im only 17 but ill try figure something out
Work hard, keep your goals always in mind, and don't waste money on temporary things. If you wait to please yourself, the pleasure can last permanently. If you look for small enjoyment along the way, small is all it will ever be. Best of luck my friend.
@@BlairAir waw.. thanks for that Godbless you bro 🙏
