    I installed suspended ceiling for years and that is how we straightened out wires that were bent up, except we cranked them by hand or with a brace drill frame. We didn't have battery operated drills then and cords would have gotten in the way of the rolling scaffold wheels.

    Does this damage the wire? Make it less strong?

    Definitely weakens the wire and easy to twist it to the point of snapping. This is one of those tips that everyone keeps copying from other peoples' tip videos without ever using the tip themselves long-term to test it.

      Depends on use, I use tie wire when I'm making wooden fishing lures, not the through wire but to hold them when I dip in sealant, holding for painting and epoxy coat. Strength is not necessary just rigidity so for that purpose its perfect. It all depends on the application

    So this would be useful for longer strands as opposed to the wood hole method? Although the hole method leaves strength in the wire but for my purposes it's just a deterrent barrier for cats.

    That wire isn't straightened, it's twisted under stress for a straight shape. The result is a completely different product.

    Most 18V and 20V cordless drill chucks won't hold any wire or drill bit less than 14 gauge or 1/8". Chuck won't tighten down enough to hold the wire. I needed a bus bar made from 16 gauge tinned copper and the drill chuck wouldn't tighten down. It only slipped inside the chuck.

    • @brandondirocco9816
      @brandondirocco9816 Před 3 lety

      Bend an L into the end so it goes through multiple parts of the chuck. Its not tight but tight enough to work

    • @oztrich24
      @oztrich24 Před rokem

      Not true. "Most" 18v and 20v drills work just fine. If you're trying to do very thin wire, that may be an issue, but not usually.

      @@oztrich24 I have tried twisting 22-24 awg wire in my Dewalt drill and the wires pull out. On amps, I never use any wire under 20awg anyway.
      Just my experience.

      @oztrich24 Před rokem

      @@craigheavner8254 For smaller wire, I just make a small eye loop and/or catch the wire in the sides of the drill chuck before you tighten it down. Works every time, no matter the gauage of wire.
