    Also they should write their own lyrics. Because showing yourself through your art is the best thing you can do. The company don’t want them to express themselves. Which many kpop idols get into music because they are passionate about music.

    There are video clips of Simon and other writers in the studio writing lyrics for xg songs. Like the Christmas one for example.
    To add, labels decide what song the groups will be performing way before the artists themself even hears it. They basically own and control everything that the artist groups put out for the most part. Even the demos they receive are fully finished songs that then gets translated into their language.
    Rapping I'm not entirely sure about but alot of solo kpop artists (guys) I do see that they are credited as writers too.

      But Cocona and Maya got credited as writers in Show You Can for Street Woman Fighter.. Simon has been hinting too that Chisa is tryna write lyrics as well.. I guess they don't have the full confidence yet to write lyrics in English but i know they could when mixing Japanese and Korean.. I guess in the future we'll see.. But they also they are marketed as a RnB/Hiphop group.. Not a Rap group.

    6:54 as a singer songwriter influcenced by Mariah Carey, Mariah can sing & she has written all of her songs along with including collaborators as well in the process. She’s the best example of a singer songwriter.
    11:24 AHT AHT! Gotta help you here good sis, XG debuted showing off trailer or teasers of all the members being capable rappers, dancers, and vocalists. I highly recommend finding those videos from a few years back so that way you can understand that the push do XG as rappers isn’t anything new. I do agree that I want to see their names in the writing credits cause I haven’t personally ever checked but I always safely assume they still have help with collaborators like how most songs are written.

    Its like...how are we supposed to believe them when the raps sound like a whole other person wrote it. Xg i love them but a lot of the things they rap about have nothing to do with them. I would love to see them do their own thing. Theres so many things theyve said that sounds like an older blk person from ameriaca wrote. Idk how to explain it. But ive deff felt it. I stan them for sure. But i can immediately tell they arent the ones who wrote it and thats ok. They still have time.they have the skill and the delivery for sure

    I really enjoyed this video essay and agree with a lot of points. Txt is my favorite group but I don’t understand why bighit markets them as “all rounders” yet never lets anybody rap except for Yeonjun. I’m proud to say Yeonjun could pass as a rapper as he seems very passionate about rap, listens to the genre and of course writes a lot of his raps himself. However, there’s not much I can say for the other members. All the members participate as much as they can in either producing or writing lyrics (which I appreciate) but like you mentioned often times their lyrics are dismissed, the song they worked on is deemed to not fit into txt’s concept and pushed aside for their future mixtape (1 of 2)

      Now the thing that really bothers me is the way only half of them listen to rap. I’m pretty sure Yeonjun, Taehyun, and Beomgyu are the only ones who listen to rap . I don’t mind that Hueningkai and Soobin don’t listen to rap- heck, I don’t even listen to rap- but bighit has some audacity to market them as all allrounders when they don’t even listen to genre. It’s like a slap in the face if you ask me. (2 of 2)

    Even the US has a long history of legendary songwriters. Most people who love music will know about the Motown writers. Ashford and Simpson wrote "I'm Every Woman". It does not take away from Chaka Khan's talent in anyway. I don't care if idol rappers don't write. Unless they have something interesting to say, what would be the point anyway. They make a bit of money, but I end up with earache.

    BTS and all of YG are just some examples of the artist writes the music. Heck GD even stated "whenever he wrote a bigbang song he'd cater each part to each member"

    Lisa( and other idols)...i love her ...but ive always had an issue with the Aave and the slangs that are usually used by western ppl, im like...surely they have other sayinga and experiences to where they can use in music. But ive always had this issue, of hearing it and feeling like girl...this isnt coming from u...if love to seee companies give more creative freedom.

    I mean, let’s actually stop making them rappers when they are just people who can’t sing and can just dance. Most idols are NOT actual rappers, and don’t know anything about rap. Also, most K-pop songs do not need rap and that’s a gripe of mine. I’d rather them just make them sub vocalist.

    All of YGE rappers write or co write their verses except for Jennie and Lisa. Fans said that YGE and Teddy aren't letting them contribute creatively but it's hard to believe since that company prided themselves so much for housing idols who's capable making their own music ( wether people love or hate it ). So I always assume that maybe they just don't have the ability to do so.
    But let's see. CL, Minzy and Dara ( of 2ne1 ) used to just co produce in some of their music but eventually have full control once they left YGE. Now all Blackpink members are managing their own solo projects. If Jennie or Lisa release anything that they wrote in the future them maybe I'm wrong.

    • @user-xf2vf9wn5j
      @user-xf2vf9wn5j Před 2 měsíci +1

      By all accounts YG intentionally imposed very strict controls on Blackpink. He was apparently unhappy at how rebellious and independent-minded CL, Park Bom and eventually Minzy became. Take the claim of not wanting to write with a pinch of salt. Both Lisa and Jennie have songwriting credits on non-YG collabs.

      That's a lie. Jennie is credited as a writer on solo and songs on some of the albums. Not all because of restrictions but that's why she has her own label

    • @wanderingwonderer4294
      @wanderingwonderer4294 Před 2 měsíci

      @@user-xf2vf9wn5j if they have writing credits on non YG songs then I don't think the issue is about the company being strict on them because of their seniors. I mean Bigbang are rebellious but it didn't affect the succeeding boy groups. The girls probably tried to pitch in verses and it's just that it wasn't approved or passed YG standards.
      It happen a lot in YGE. Being able to produce or write doesn't mean your work will end in the album.

  • @Jess1013

    I like the premise of this video but it can honestly go a lot further. I’ve been a rap fan my entire life and it’s very weird to see an entire industry extract from the culture with what I see as zero respect and, sometimes, outright antagonism. The “rapper” position shouldn’t be a feature of an idol group if rap and understanding hip hop culture at the root isn’t their genuine passion. Asking k-pop idols turned “rappers” to write their raps doesn’t solve the lack of respect for the culture (just look at the white frat boy youtube rappers of the 2010s).

  • @alexandragabitto2573
    @alexandragabitto2573 Před 2 měsíci

    My comment going into the cultural landscape of the idol industry and how Cocona literally brought it all down by portraying the act of shaving one’s head not as an act of contrition or a bout of “hysteria”, but as an act of reclamation and NOT as a way to humiliate a female Japanese idol (one of which was forced to shave her head and apologize to the nation for having a boyfriend on live television by her label in 2013) was deleted lol so I’m going to just start by saying that putting the likes of Blackpink on par with XG is a…choice (no hate and I am being 100% serious when I say that). Of course I would love for all rappers to have more creative control, but I think it would be doing the art of rapping a disservice to skim over technical elements when they aren’t taken seriously by the Asian market. Just based on technique alone XG blows both Jennie and Lisa out of the water which says a LOT about the utter state of female rap and it is a testament to Asa of Babymonster’s talent that she can make YG’s tired ass onomatopoeia bars sound new and fresh and exciting.
    In short I just think that the fact that “rappers” in KPOP aren’t even competent on a technical level in the field should be addressed first since KPOP often relegates raplines to members who can’t contribute vocally, which is beyond insulting to the craft to me. The fact that XG’s vocal line were able to drop bars with a degree of skill that isn’t even found in a girl group’s main rapline shows that at the very least XG seems to respect the genre. However, I want to double down on how I do agree with the sentiments in this video and that it’s high time that XG were allowed to hold a pen.

    Jennie (not lisa) has been credited as a writer on some of their songs. She's also credited as a writer on all of her solo songs and remixes. She has her own label now so she'll be able to be in her writing bag a lot more. Since yg keeps restricting her.
