  • Snowmobile studs optimize the handling and performance of your snowmobile, while keeping you significantly safer. To put it into perspective, our friends at SnowTrax have demonstrated how a snowmobile performs with and without studs.

    Snowmobiles are also different today than back in the 90’s. 90’s sleds had you sitting on the seat instead of standing up all day. When this 600 took off on the ice it was spinning like a mofo with those little bit of studs while my triple all studded out would be gripping hard. I get that they are saying that you don’t have to have a track loaded for no reason but you don’t get nearly the same traction as you would with big numbers of studs.

    Should’ve added in an ice ripper track too

    This is pretty good info, thank you. So definitely studs on sled. I need to add some to mine!

    Do you have any videos showing side by side comparison with the same sleds? I noticed that all the videos test with different sleds. I own a 600, 900 and 900 turbo. None would be comparable in any test unstudded or studded. I have been getting strong opinions for and against from many.

    Studs are safer and makes easier stop

    If you have a properly studded track and matching carbides, you’ll never go back. For me the main thing is stopping on ice.

    2 studs up the middle. A a must on trail for icy corners

    this looks good if you're living in nunavut with icey roads!

    Can't say it's a scientific test but gives an idea. Also make sure you get the right amount of studs for your ride. Don't put 144 studs on a 488 fan... and don't put 96 studs on a 800. The former will struggle to make that extra weight turn and the latter will destroy itself. Studded my 600 triple in the 90's and the track tore itself; imagine my shock at full tilt on a river. A mechanic told me I didn't have enough studs and track was taking too much of a beating; studs were stretching the track and gave way. Like a bed of nails, better to have enough to cover a good surface so you don't hurt yourself; you would not lay on a bed of 1 nail. Was using 2 studs per rib in a V-pattern, should have been using at least 3 stud in a straight line and altering the alignment, like an old school track with cleats.
    Got a Storm 800 with 192x 1.5" studs.... yeah. The skid was lifted, using the simple, built-in brackets. #90sTriples

    I didn't have studs on my 19 rush and that thing was a Ferrari in the corners. Fun sled. I might stud my 20 gade though, that thing is not a Ferrari in the corners. Does everything else much better though.

    After driving a sled with studs for so long drove older XC 700 without studs and I could say it felt dangerous

      You ever get run over by a studded track? how is that safer? I have had to give 30+ people rides home because they put a stud through their heat exchanger, lost all their coolant and had to start walking home, sometimes in the dark. How is that safer?

  • @youareright5431

    Ice ripper!! No tearing,no tracks spitting out the back! No Heat exchanger or worse studs getting caught up i the rotating parts destroying whatever it touches!!

    dont stud your track people, studs pull out then your track rips in half, or almost in half, or a stud ends up going through your heat exchanger. also it makes it so people like me will never buy your sled

    • @paulcondie2520
      @paulcondie2520 Před rokem +1

      Just like car tires you inspect them and replace as needed! Tracks do need replaced at some time! It's a wear item. I'd never have a sled without studs!
