    Thanks for this! I was following LibreOffice's tutorial on this, but only got to the point where I had the template and filler without showing the actual address data in the fields. I eventually figured out that in the most recent version, rather than your steps described with the Mail Merge Wizard at 3:05, you must now choose the "Edit Individual Documents" button along the bottom-left of the top toolbar. This will open a new document which has all of the address data visible.

    VERY IMPORTANT TIP. Since LibrOffice likes to progressively crowd the left edge of the labels and in fact runs off on the labels in the right column, I deployed a blunderific work around. I added spaces as needed during field selection to push the addresses to the right.

    Very helpful. There's been a minor change since this was made. The options to print or save to file are now only on the toolbar, and you will not see the final merged file until you do one or the other. I think it is also often necessary to add a blank line at the top as well as a space to the left. Also it is possible to copy data from a spreadsheet and paste it into Base. Base is a separate installation from standard LibeOffice. sudo apt-get install libreoffice-base

    YOU ARE THE BEST ... I just created table in the LibreOffice....with 100 of addresses .. and thank to you ..I should be able to print out the labels.....I am NOT - the f4 has different message "Save changes to document “Untitled 1” before closing?" .....now I clicked on VIEW and Data Sources...and there is the window with my Document I like to merge with .... clicking on the Tool and I have different info in the new window ....only 1/ select starting document 2/ select doc. type 3/ insert address block 4/ create salutation 5/ adjust layout ( in grayish color) ...missing 6,7,and 8 ...and after going through all 5 steps - no success - do not see THE change/merge on the document on the screen ... any idea what to try next ?
    Also ...
    What "IF" ... I would like to print out just some of the whole database of addresses - is there an option to select few out of the whole database ?
    Thank you for your precious time

    Oh nice. I didn't even know libreoffice could do this. One less thing windows is needed for. The list sure is getting shorter. We really need a good pdf editor. That is the only thing I can think of that's left for me.

  • @topfloorhotelhvaccleaning6835

    From 3:13... "hit F4"... this begins to fall apart. F4 does nothing, the wizard suggests that I'm setting up a letter template to import my list into, and when I print my labels the preview prints.

      Kris, they are DONE! Woo-Hoo!!!! Now I get to put my product on Amazon for sale! I wish CZcams had a happy smiley with music for this comment. :) :)
      If you know anyone who needs to purchase a UPC code for anything, send them to barcodestalk. com. $5 for one, $10 for five different barcodes. Images are included. I'm happy with them.
      I almost bought them from eBay, but in Amazon Seller Central forums, I read where sellers had done that, and Amazon had denied them the use of that UPC code. That led to further research. Turns out that some of the eBay UPC codes are not correct.
      Barcodestalk buys their codes directly from the licensing company, in bulk. from GS1 - the Global Standards Organization. That's probably a WHOLE LOT MORE that you wanted to hear, but it's good for people to know.
      So thank you for allowing me to use your comments area to inform. You have just performed a valuable public service, and we salute you! ;) ;) (really need a big smiley but like I said earlier....)

    Ermagerd! File > New > Labels ! ! ! - I spent the better part of an hour just trying to find out how to make a new blank document of an Avery Label Template. I just switched to Zorin because I am so disappointed in the constant errors I get with Windows. It's going to take some getting used to the new layout of the menus but It's already been worth it. The top quality open source software is going to save me a bundle of money and also time that I used to spend repairing windows errors.

      Yes I am learning that! not the easy way either. I get a list of names and addresses and phone numbers from a volunteer group in a pdf file. then I have to turn it into a spreadsheet and then into a database and into labels- ugh- just thinking there had to be an easier way- none of us are extremely computer literate- plus they use windows and Im on Linux...

    • @DigitalMetal
      @DigitalMetal  Před 7 lety +1

      Mistie Fitzgerald Basically, you don't convert a PDF into a spreadsheet. You'll have to grab text from the PDF and use it to create a spreadsheet. But, if the PDF's aren't all formatted the same you can't really do this. If you do get them into a spreadsheet, then you should be able to put them into a database easily. Most spreadsheet programs will export to csv, and more database programs can import csv files.
