2013 SL550 Race Chip Install & Full fuel mileage Review

- I got the race chip RS for my 2013 SL550 Mercedes. I knew the race ship would be worth it because they offered a 30-day refund with no restocking fee so I knew it had to be great.
Unfortunately the race chip does what it's supposed to do in manual mode and I do not use the paddle shifters on my car so for me the race chip is not worth it. Also the race chip caused the car to get worse fuel mileage. Before I got 30.7 highway miles a gallon physically by doing the division with the fuel not the computer. After the race chip I got 23 miles a gallon not with the computer said what the actual car did mileage divided by gallons.
The race chip did improve the paddle shifting and the down shifts were smoother and more crisp. The notch setting number five work the best and I would say the car made an additional 30 to 45 wheel horsepower in manual mode only not in regular mode or sport mode. It also made more torque I would guess 50 more wheel torque and manual mode.
For me I will be returning the race chip because it's not applicable for my situation and I will not be putting the car in manual shift mode every time I drive the car.

Yes I recommend wix if you can't get the Amsoil filter.

Nice!!! I’ve never seen a tune pick up a ton of HP and get better fuel economy. Usually it’s one or the other. Plus you probably have to drive it more. The computer has to re-learn everything…..takes a couple hundred miles.
Yeah,the factory chip is already optimised for fuel efficiency.Its foolish to think that an aftermarket tuner can beat that
Oh there's all different tuning software that can make a huge difference power fuel mileage just depends on what you're looking for.
A vehicle from the factory is always tuned usually towards the rich side Rich means more fuel and it's a safer setting that way you don't have any overheating issues you can lean out a vehicle and it can be a huge bump and fuel mileage.

Yeah it's definitely a nice ride.
I did a review on it and I still give my C5 Corvette I had before a better rating for the money.
However the SL550 is quite a bit better in some areas.

Enjoy the videos just ordered amsoil for the first time I got a case of 10w-40 dirt bike oil for my new 2021 yz250f and signature seires 5w-30 and 75w90 severe gear oil for my 2012 camaro ss that I take on road courses and drag racing can't wait to change out the fluids and see the results I already used the fuel system cleaner and upper cylinder lubricant and made my car much smoother

Okay Eben so I have a 2014 Silverado and when the engine is cold or first thing in the morning there’s a considerable tick for maybe the first 5 seconds of running. Only time it does it. I just changed it with signiture series 0w-20 like I should with Amsoil PI. Still did it. Would upper cylinder lubricant help? If not is it something to worry about considering it still runs and drives fine?
Great question I honestly don't know.
Could be something wrong with the motor.
Have you done an Amsoil Engine flush on it yet?
Have you ever done the Amsoil Power Foam on it?
Yes the upper cylinder lubricant would help the valve train and it would run smoother.
Also do you know if anything has ever damaged the motor?
I think an ECU tune(flash) is the best way to go as far as a tune. For around 1500.00 you can go from 429hp/516 trq to 545hp/714 trq and you will notice a MAJOR change in performance,better gas mileage ,better trans response . Other than rentech chip add ons (with doesn’t change everything) an ECU flash is MUCH better.😉👍

Yes everything's fine on my car and the race chip definitely made a big difference It's just not realistic for me because I will not be driving the car in manual mode every day.
However their claim is correct it did make the horsepower bump that they estimated 👍

I Bought the RaceChip GTS. For the 2013 sl550 r231. I definitely felt a difference. I do not use the car in Manuel mode much either.. I did get the distronic plus message as well

Yeah it really made a big difference in manual mode on my car. I can definitely say it's a solid product.
Is just I got that car so I didn't have to drive manual My last car was a manual C6 Corvette and I was really happy to finally have an automatic and the last thing I want to do is have to paddle shift my car all the time lol 😉😃💯
I had purchased RaceChip GTS black version with bluetooth. I felt that it did give me additional horsepower. I drove the same strip going and coming with it on and off on race mode (on the RaceChip app) & S mode ( On the car) doing 125 mph. I'm not sure felt like a 89 horsepower gain as they stated... That's to be determined once I'm able to Dino test the vehicle.

On my playlist you'll see I do the intercooler fluid on my car that made the biggest difference I would guess that that fluid changed did 15 rear wheel horsepower.
I recommend immediately doing your intercooler fluid!

I would have to drive the car everyday in manual mode using the paddle shifters to get the upgrade.
Very interesting the way they dialed it in from the factory with their mapping.
Have you tried any of the other settings on the race chip? There is more than one setting in them. The Race Chip I have has 7 different settings. On 7 it really makes a good difference over stock. Boost comes on harder and pulls harder from lower rpm and much better at high rpm. Different car but still does make a difference. Don't write it off until you mess with it. I also am getting about 10mpg better than epa estimates on my car with it. That isnt to say all cars will get that. That is also verified via the same pump filling and calculating. Don't trust two different stations or even different pumps at the same station.

I believe what they did was they took my car in a dyno and they went through the mapping all in manual mode in each gear they also made it shift better and manual mode.
I would say the car made another 40 rear wheel horsepower and it shifted better.
I tried all the different settings.
Setting number five was the best.
The car really doesn't run good in the emode or the s mode for sport it only ran right in the manual mode.
For me I would have to drive the car in manual mode in paddle shift at all the time here in traffic and definitely not interested in it.
@@Syntheticoilprotection That sucks honestly. They should have went through all modes as well as manual and auto to make a difference. If they cant make a map for every one at least make each setting for different modes and how to drive the transmission for best results. I know mine seems to get best mpg on setting 3 and setting 7 is an angry little bugger. Shift can be weird on setting 0 which I figure should be stock but doesnt seem like it with the odd shifting.
Yeah I watched a video on race chip where they showed an AMG c43 and I think the 0 to 60 went from 4.4 seconds to 3.9 seconds 0 to 60 and the motor sounded so much better The timing was better it run sounded like it was running cleaner and I said you know what I'll give it a shot.

I think u need to tune it by using your cellphone then connect via blutooth but u need to download the software of ur race chip on ur phone.
This one that I got doesn't have that feature.
The race chip did make a big difference however it was only in manual mode.
I would have to hit the mode button twice every time I get in the car to put it into manual mode and then I would have to shift it all day with the paddle shifters just to get the difference with the race chip.
So for me since I drive in Vegas traffic I would use the paddle shifters about 7% of the time and it's just simply not worth it.

😆 13 hp for coolant change. Why didnt you do a mpg test before the race chip & waiting 30 seconds to do a double click at the pump. Usually flashing a map, you need to drive it around for the ecu to go into closed loop. Waste of $$$ tbh

I've had tons and tons of people here in Las Vegas get special tunes and upgrades to their cars and they wasted thousands and thousands and thousands of dollars.
I was looking for a basic software that could help the fuel mileage a little bit maybe bump it a little bit but not interested in making another hundred wheel horsepower because it'll put a lot of stress on the transmission.
Also more high heat on the turbos.
I was looking for a small bump and fuel mileage and drivability and found out the only way I could get it was in manual mode and I do not drive my car with the paddle shifters everyday so it's a lost cause for my application.
How much was it to fill her up the first time?
$4 a gallon and it holds about 19 gallons

From my personal experience, do not put any non-original spare parts for Mercedes.
I used to think that.
And then I found out everyone has their specialty.
Meaning there's always better tires you can put on a car than what comes on them.
Or fluids that come in a car there's always a higher quality lubricant you can get.
So I disagree.
I found out with my C5 Corvette how much better it could run.
