Wei Xue has been described as “one of the outstanding violinist of our time” . As a Chinese violinist, he maintains ties with his home country and tours regularly in Europe, Far East and North America. His amazing performance as well as unique appreciation and understanding of music performing art have won him worldwide commendation and great reputation.
He has won multiple awards in well-known international competitions, such as 1982 Carl Flesch International Violin Competition, Japan International Violin Competition, and Tchaikovsky Silver Medal in Moscow etc. He set the record as a Chinese violinist for winning the most international prizes.
Living in an era of pop music, few people appreciate the beauty of classical music. Even to some people, classical music represents boring music theories and difficult symbols, incomprehensibly abstruse. It seems to contradict with the pursuit of speed and convenience nowadays. Classical music is not the mainstream music in present days and the public would not spend time understanding the stories behind musicians and the philosophy in the music.
However, the world of art is extremely diverse and art is a way of recognition and exploration of the world. Everyone perceives the world differently therefore the forms of art vary greatly from one to another. Therefore, the beauty of classical music cannot be replaced by other forms of music, as well as the messages and philosophy behind it. Professor Wei Xue as a well-known violinist is going to talk about the stories behind classical music and discuss about the philosophy in classical music. Xue Wei has been described as ‘one of the most outstanding violinist of our time’. He has won the Silver Medal in the 8th Tchaikovsky International Competition in Moscow, the first prize 1982 Carl Flesch International Violin Competition as well as Audience Prize, the Sonata and Orchestra and the best Sonata Performing Award. He was selected as LPO/ Pioneering Young Solo Violinist. He set the record as a Chinese violinist for winning the largest number of international prizes. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx
