  • Hello folks! Today I want to show you my new restoration project. When I was seen that axe, I instantly made decision to bought it. I never seen before this shape of axe and also never had. So, start to restoration! I removed axe old handle and used electrolysis to remove dirty, rust and muck. After I used angle grinder to remove black color and some patina.
But after grinding I found that the axe has a lot of holes and indentations with blackness and I made decision to use an iron chloride to hide all the black spots and make the same surface. Further I used ash tree wood to make an axe handle. Also, for lanyard I made a hole with diameter 10 mm and put in it an aluminum rivets with hole. Finally, I used two components paint and linseed oil. I hope you enjoy this restoration video.
    Sincerely, Alex. Thanks for attention!
Good luck and health to everyone! With best wishes, Alex!

But the restoration isn’t a tutorial, right? There’s not much reason to talk about what he would do beforehand, so big oof. Plus, less editing and time required to make one restoration vid.

love the addition of the lanyard, I think all hand tools should have one. it's tough enough, but needs to be sharper. Give the edge the really good sharpening treatment like you usually do. You left it a bit dull. I suppose that was on purpose, but to my way of thinking, dull is never good, nor is it safe. Sharper is safer, since then it goes where and does what you intend.

    beautiful work!
i think the gap between the handle and the head of the axe was the result of the handle being inserted upward.
the head of the axe has the larger opening on its upper side so the handle should be inserted from this side down.
