While I am now married and no longer living alone, I look fondly upon my memories living in my little one room cottage. Each era of my life has had it’s own sets of challenges and joys, and while I’m in a new chapter now I wanted to look back and talk about what things helped me thrive living alone, which was not always easy to do. However, I really do think whether you live alone or with company it doesn’t really make a difference in regards to how you can grow and develop a new lifestyle. Each situation has limitations, but our spirits do not. Some things that helped my transition: always staying connected to friends or family (I was always very closely connected), being involved in my community, filling my home with love and peaceful thoughts, and improving my overall mindset - which is crucial when you spend a lot of time alone (at least for me, I did a lot of serious growing and maturing).

Paola, you have inspired me for years now. Following you from the beginning until now has been such a BEAUTIFUL and rare gift. After my divorce 20 years ago I was going from relationship to relationship but never feeling happy. Then I made the conscious choice to be alone for 7 years; I learned so much about myself in that time and grew a deeper love & appreciation for myself and my journey. It changed my life in such positive ways, on multiple levels. Then when I was done being alone I called out to my husband in prayer & manifestation on a New Moon...4 days later I met him. We've been together now nearly 8 years and are in the process of buying our first off-grid home. You and I are very similar in many ways, you've taught me so much as well. After raising 4 children...and now being a grandma, I cherish my alone time. When my kids were little, I was overwhelmed so often because I couldn't barely take a shower in peace. Just a heads up to women who are child free and need alone time. I love my family...but no one talks about HOW TOUGH motherhood really is.
We only had one child and she, now a adult, usurped the majority of our time and energy trying to offer her a well-rounded loving family life, while encouraging her to explore a variety of activities and interests! She found she loved reading books 📚 her favorite pass time! Now that she has a toddler of her own, she barely has time for a brief escape into the shower 😂 Your comment is spot on. We love her to pieces but wonder (at least I do) if our marriage would’ve survived if we didn’t allow her to be a divisive topic between us… for those of you who can balance the fine art of attentiveness to your child/children while still meeting the needs of being a spouse, I am in awe and respect. It was never my intent to grow old alone. Counting my blessings as my former husband and I have become the closest of friends and we remain an atypical but connected family ❤
this comment 💗💗💗I am a mother of two teenagers. I naively thought I was going to have gentle, sensitive children. I had two fiery, strong-willed boys and two very, very difficult pregnancies. They definitely shattered my very naive dreams of what motherhood would be about. Don't get me wrong, I love them with all my heart. But it has been a very hard journey for me. I do have a loving, supportive husband who has helped raise them, but he has often had to work very long hours, and we do not have extended family that has ever been there to help. Now that they are teens, I find the challenges are much more complicated. With both of them being a more aggressive, alpha type, it wears on my soul. I don't regret having them, but I wish someone would have warned me of what this was going to be like, especially for people like me, who need alone time, hate being assertive and standing up to alpha types, and have no extended support from family.
I think all moms are shocked at the stress of motherhood. We have an idyllic dream that all will be smooth. Until the first time we are soaked with projectile vomit and we've only had 2 hours of sleep that night. My adult children are ages 23, 28, 29, and 32 now. The youngest has autism and the stress of that is unbearable at times. But love sees us through. Somehow. My husband filed for divorce a few years ago after 28 years of marriage. I was blindsided...but chose not to fight because ...really, who wants to be married to a man who doesn't any longer want to be married to you?! Last year I was diagnosed with cancer ...a small but vigorous tumor on my kidney. Endured surgery to remove it...have a CT scan every 6 months to make sure it has not recurred. Sometimes I feel dead inside. I honestly do. However, I do have spiritual faith. And I know that no matter how miserable life can be...being alive is a privilege and we must remain strong and keep fighting for fleeting moments of joy. Also, gardening and nature help tremendously. @@MaryBeth1965 I wish you all the best as you face the future. Stay strong. Five years ago, I was diagnosed with early breast cancer, after a very stressful period in my marriage. I’m sure the stress had contributed to the disease. All is well now but every year when I have that mammogram, I’m petrified. My kids are still young and need me around. I’m less stressed these days and try to take out time for myself daily, like watching and connecting on CZcams, swimming or reading. It’s important to simplify and de stress your life as much as possible and also to connect or reconnect with friends and family. Take care and good luck! ❤️🌹🪴🐈🐕🦺

I think that this shows just how special your husband is - you were willing to give up your solitude for him. Reminds me of something I read online "Men think that they're competing against other men to date me when they're actually competing against being better than being alone."

I really like your life and the way you see the world. In this video, you talked about "Kokedama"! And in the couple of your previous videos, you showed some of your Japanese items in your house which made me more related to your stories.
Among other things, once you talked about "Anne of Green Gables ", which inspired me to start learning English as a kid. So I found lots of good and common things in your videos that always make me smile and happy!

I relate to animals much more than I do to humans. When I lost my Charlie dog of 12 years, I was totally devastated, as you were, when you lost your beautiful rabbit. It broke my heart in two, and I have never felt that way with the passing of any human. I felt so alone without him. But I now have my Madge, the rescue greyhound, and I would love to have other animals, but sadly can not where I live, due to restrictions. I have just started reading your lovely book The Cottage Fairy Companion, and it is indeed my companion in the evening, when I go to bed and read for a bit! Sadly, due to my anxiety, I sold my car, and only go out of the house to walk my dog, so do not meet any other folk, apart from the occasional person with their dog on our walks, when we stop and have a chat. I do meet up with a lady from the next village once a week, for her and my dog to have zoomies in the field near me, and so get to talk to another human being for an hour. I have a lady ring me once a week for a chat, from a charity, which is lovely too. I would rather live alone with Madge, than with someone that made me unhappy. I enjoy being on my own most of the time, and I love getting out on my walks with Madge in nature, and see deer, Canada Geese, Buzzards, rabbits, sheep, and all kinds of birds on our walks. I thank the birds for their beautiful songs, and the trees for being here. I hope that you can have a Happy Easter Paola, with your lovely dog, cat and bunnies, and your lovely loving husband - I can not believe it is almost a year you have been married! I heal from a abussive relationship . He work away from home . So I also learn to be alone . The marriage ended but being alone as much has also. Being around family and friends more now .It's good you volunteer in town get out out and about . Sometime it's all a person needs.I find as I get older being alone is not so bad . I am injured right now and everybody does there thing and I am left alone a lot . Really enjoy your videos .

I have healed in so many ways since eliminating network and local news shows. The fear mongering, the yellow journalism, the focus on the negative with no balance of the positive was wreaking havoc with my bipolar. My psych correlated a few issues to the bombardment of negativity; we took away that quotient and healing quickly followed in those few facets. I have chosen my exposure through CZcams and it also allows me to control the flow in order to then avoid becoming overwhelmed.
I too have eliminated much of the negativity of “news.” My healing ❤️🩹 space is focused on kinder words, thoughts, people and prayers 🙏🏻
I have always loved my "alone times". They are always my heart's desires. I treasure it so much. Even if these arent happenning in some forested areas as yours, just in the confines of our home, i sure always looking forward to it. I loved Thich Naht Han. Spring has started finally. The very first day and I’m exhausted but it’s a great sign. Before I got married, I lived for many years alone. Slowly gathering the things and experiences that felt like home. Learning slowly what makes and does not make a nest for me. Quiet, fur babies, making, nature… all of it. Not the way I grew up at all. You remind me of that time. And what it feels like now, a few months retired, confident in my choices. I have a chance to live in a one room cottage too and I believe I need to. I am in so much pain, physically and mentality, with overall stress and management stress. My condo is a small one bedroom but I can't keep up with it's needs. I can't even give it a good clean any more. I am so looking forward to cottage. It will be my fair house. I will be able to walk on grass and garden bare foot. I have had this adventure on my heart for such a long time, it has to be right. I am praying so.

My grandmother brought me up, she didn’t watch tv or read newspapers, her world revolved around her immediate family, her home & garden & she was far more content than people are today with the cares of the world heavy on their shoulders.

Hello Paola, you are absolutely right. "Finding peace is far more about the interior world than without." I also love the quote, " We don't see things as they are, we see them as we are." We create our own reality. So, of course, we see things through our own filter of beliefs, thoughts and emotions.
When I was about your age, I thought that I had to listen to the news to be an adult. However, the scary content of the news only made me afraid and I quickly realized that to be fearless, because I am such a sensitive soul, I need to disconnect myself from negative content. I have done it ever since. The important worldly news still reaches me, but it doesn't bombard me nor create fear the way daily news used to.

I’m beginning to get more used to being alone. I still have my moments that I get lonely. But, for the most part I’m enjoying being alone and finally being able to get to know me. I can do whatever I want,when I want. Come and go as I please. It’s nice. I only live a mile or two from town. Out in the county. But, close enough to town if I need something. I now live alone with my sweet chihauhau. I'm not lonely at all. I married very, very young and started my family immediately. Now I'm single, in my late 50s, my beautiful children in their 30s and 40s, and I have two wonderful teenage grandsons. I have a career, which is my only social outlet, I am an introvert, and my job requires me to be very extroverted. I choose to work only casual hours now, so when my work is over, the solitude is welcomed and embraced wholeheartedly. Thank you for your lovely videos Paola, they are so heart-warming 🩷🤍🩵

I'm so glad you have Luke, but even gladder you had your pre-marriage cottage time as well. Both solitude/nature & loving companionship are equally powerful & beautiful. Today is a day of renewal & rebirth. Single at 52 (today is my birthday!) I know for me it's also not about running or chasing. Achieving or proving. Seeking or leaving. But arriving. Mainly within. Now I'm crying so so (before watch this video) ..because I know that no anyone really to be my friend since I have been children.. I have been bullying from my family, friends of my neighbours , in school untill graduated.. I often walked alone almost on my activity while chilhood.. I feel when in the crowded or some of persons I like alone.. I feel happy & not alone when I walk & have a home no human... only beautiful nature, lake, flowers, grass, trees, cat & the funny fauna..

Lovely video and so well timed. I have lately become very disheartened with negative news cycles so have been making an effort to step away from time to time. Being out in the vast beauty of nature and hiking among the ancient mountains really puts things into perspective. As important as it is to keep up to date with things so we can make positive contribution, I always try to remember that "this too shall pass", that the tragedies of the day will be no more. Even past it all, the mountains will still stand 🏔️
