      Hopefully plays instead of Murphy/Sloane

    Sloane and Crouch won't be in the same team. I dont think either of them makes the first 22.
    My best 22 is:
    Murray: Inj (should be back round 8-10?)
    Michalanney Butts Worrell
    Milera Keane Curtin
    Jones Dawson Hinge
    Rachele Walker Pedlar
    Rankine Fogarty Thilthorpe
    ROB Laird Soligo
    Smith Nankervis Keays Murphy
    Emergencies:
    Gollant Edwards Crouch Cook

    I believe Crows will be the dark horse this season, the potential to explode and really disrupt the competition. I got them somewhere between 6th-4th.

    • @billy75chook80

      I got them making a prelim after losing a qualifying final and then winning a semi

    • @lukenoble8613
      @lukenoble8613 Před 8 měsíci

      Finals but unlikely to win one. Will be an umpire decision.... I'm totally kidding. I still don't expect them to win a final. Just because currently there are 7 better teams and each year teams do get better. Probably 10th or maybe 9th is acceptable. 8th is excellent. A final win is over achieving. I have them as 2026 premiers. Potentially 2027 aswell and or only. But they are definitely heading that way. Just need an elite key back and an elite inside mid.

    • @billy75chook80
      @billy75chook80 Před 8 měsíci +1

      @lukenoble8613 nah Adelaide could have beaten any of the final teams if they had made it,
      Collingwood? Negged
      Melbourne? Demolished
      Carlton? Dragged into the mud
      Saints? 12 Goal demolition
      Brisbane? No Problem
      Port Adelaide? Smashed
      Sydney? Killed
      GWS? They beat Adelaide by 1 point

    Best 22 probably spot on for round 1, Considering Murray & Schoenberg both injured
    Although in my ideal world I'd replace Murphy & Sloane for Cook & Dowling / Edwards - Sloane at his age probably makes a decent sub

  • @spindoctor6385
    @spindoctor6385 Před 8 měsíci +3

    Still very reliant on Tex. Maybe he can be dominant again, Thilthorpe and Fogarty are both decent third talls. One of them really needs to step up. The backline has holes, they will concede big scores and also kick some big scores. It could be a year of big ups and big downs and some very entertaining games. Peddler is already a lock as a starting midfielder.

    Will always love Sloan but sadly I think it’s time to get him out but hopefully he makes me eat my words would love to see him go off next year

  • @vorn1990
    @vorn1990 Před 8 měsíci

    Yeah, you are pretty well on the money.
    a few things though. There are questions on Worrell as a KPD, he is a great third tall, and has height, but AFC played him in SANFL as a HBF because of the way he plays. Great Doedee replacement, maybe not Murray.
    Gollant is ony 191cm, but AFC has played him as a KPF in the SANFL (which he has smashed) and have only brought him in to replace KPF in the best 22 so far. Many fans see him as McAdam replacement, but it seems the club sees him as third tall after Tex retires. People watching preseason training think Cook has been earmarked to replace McAdam.
    You had no defenders on the bench, Chayce Jones is now mainly a wing and had a breakout year. Hinge and Jones can both swap with defence but the club preference tends to have a defender for normal roations.
    The crows ruck situation is a worry. we have ROB, Strachan (Both same age), Himmelberg (FWD/Ruc) and Thilthorpe (FWD/RUC). very shallow.

  • @JohnHenrySMH
    @JohnHenrySMH Před 8 měsíci +4

    Schoenberg should be in the best 22 if he wasn't injured, he finally looked to be back on track last year and is very underrated. Billy Dowling is rumored to be coming on really well and will probably feature in the midfield at some stage next year. Rachele and Rankine also should rotate through the midfield, which would help to offset the slower guys like Crouch, Sloane and Laird. Apparently Berry is looking leaner and fitter, and I think he's a real chance to be a part of that midfield mix if they can make space for him.

  • @bluecedar7914
    @bluecedar7914 Před 8 měsíci +2

    Without preseason form I would have Mark Keane at CHB instead of Worrell, otherwise the same 22. I would have Crouch on in the starting 18 on ball with Rachelle on the bench and Worrell would be my pick for sub, or maybe Cook. If Sloane's form and fitness are at last season's level he stays in the 22 for mine. Luke Nankervis is another mid sized defender/wing player potentially pushing for game time this season.

    • @dexter1761
      @dexter1761 Před 8 měsíci

      lol worrell is a lock what are you talking about, sloane is only in the best 22 because of his name, his form is terrible!

  • @anappropriatehandle
    @anappropriatehandle Před 8 měsíci +4

    we finnally made it lol, like the predictions here, Curtin comes in, Edwards would definitely get a look early, he can play across defence midfield and forward so he probably would be a nice sub. I can honestly see us sending crouch back to the SANFL and bringing in Berry.
    we have a great fixture this year, finals is the expectation

    • @matthewheyen1953
      @matthewheyen1953 Před 8 měsíci +2

      Crows won 5/6 midfield battles in the last 6 games with crouch playing, the only 1 they lost being against the demons who probably have the best midfield in the comp. They looked a hell of a lot better in the midfield with him back compared the first half of the season. Still hand balls too much but he was a lot more effective with them compared to his form prior to being banished.

    • @anappropriatehandle
      @anappropriatehandle Před 8 měsíci +2

      @@matthewheyen1953 I completely agree, I thought we looked way better with him back, I'm one of the few crows fans who actually really like him in the team, arguably over laird.
      but I'm also a fan of the young guys coming through who will eventually replace Sloane laird and crouch

      @matthewheyen1953 yeah move laird back to replace brodie for a few years, I'd like to see a large rotation of our young players like pedlar, rachele, soligo, Berry and Edwards and so on.

    • @Yitzzz
      @Yitzzz Před 8 měsíci

      The thing you have to understand about crouch is that he is only good when the team around him is good. He doesn’t kick so he passes it to others to kick for him. He gets it to a Dawson or smith or whoever. Without those quality mids, he doesn’t impact the game.

  • @joshuakeltie2374
    @joshuakeltie2374 Před 8 měsíci +8

    If he can stay injury free next year I'm tipping Zac Taylor to break out. He's had a serious injury curse for the past few years, but when he's played he's looked like the damaging, explosive mid that we've been craving for a long time.

  • @tnargs57

    "Their 2023 top form...maybe it's a stretch to say they matched it with the best teams"....really? They played the Top 4 teams 7 times for 3 wins and 4 losses, and the losses were by 1, 2, 4, and 6 points. You don't think they matched it with them?

  • @matthewheyen1953
    @matthewheyen1953 Před 8 měsíci +2

    Pretty much hit the nail on the head with everything you said, definitely lacking a bit of polish and pace in the midfield, a josh Kelly type would be ideal, Rachele could potentially develop into that though. An elite key defender is definitely a hole at this stage aswell, I don’t see the potential for butts to be A grade, he is solid but he is never getting to a Darcy Moore/harris Andrews level, Murray does have that potential though. I’m not sure curtin slots straight in, Worrell and butts are pretty much a lock for rd1 and I think Keane probably holds Murray’s spot as a genuine key defender as Worrell can’t play that role yet from what I’ve seen, he is a gun as a third tall tho so it’s going to be a good competition between him and curtin for that spot.

    Def - Michalanney - Butts - Milera
    HB - Smith - Worrell - Curtin
    Mid - Soligo - Dawson - Hinge
    HF - Rachele - Walker - Cook
    Fwd - Rankine - Fogarty - Thilthorpe
    Ruck - O'Brien - Laird - Pedlar
    I/Change - Edwards - Keays - Crouch - Burgess
    Sub - Sloane
    Emergencies - Dowling - Gollant - Keane - Berry
    Given Sloane's age and injury issues I would be inclined to use him as a sub who predominantly comes on in the final quarter to provide that injection of experience when the team needs it.
    Burgess provides KPP cover forward and back. Keays and Crouch provide mid cover with Keays also capable of being a pressure forward who I rate more highly than McHenry. Edwards can provide cover along the flanks with an injection of speed, size and a penetrating kick.
    Arguments could be made for Jones, McHenry, Murphy and Parnell who to my mind would be fighting with the likes of Milera, Smith, Soligo, Rachele, Rankine, Cook, Crouch, Keays, Sloane and Berry for a position in the side. I obviously rate the gentlemen named more highly in regards to their footballing ability although I am sure Jones, McHenry, Murphy and Parnell will all play a role next year. There is also Schoenberg and Murray who have not been considered due to long-term injuries that will keep them out for at least the first half of 2024 and maybe longer depending on their respective recoveries.

    Also dont use our inability to make finals in 2024 as some badge of honour or an excuse to attack the club. Yes the team is borderline 4 to 5 quality. Its also a young team so it would not be unexpected of them to just make finals and exit immediately.

    Personally wouldnt be having both Sloane and Crouch in the same team, prefer Sloane over Crouch as at least he can play a few positions, whereas Crouch can only play midfield however Crouch is younger and can run all day and still has a couple years left in him and this should be Sloanes last year. Either way, I'd be dropping one of them as well as Murphy and replacing them with either Berry/Taylor/Dowling and Cook. Potentially could also use Thilthorpe as our main ruck and bring in Burgess as our ruck/forward. Dont mind Edwards as an emergency but would use Nankervis as he can cover half back, wing and half forward

    • @Yitzzz
      @Yitzzz Před 8 měsíci +1

      People seem to forget that ROB had the most hitouts to advantage of ANY ruck this year. Thilthorpe is not ready to ruck, Rob was subbed out just before half time against the eagles and thilthorpe was named as the no1 ruck. He got just 7 hitouts in a half of football, against the EAGLES. Also why does everyone want Murphy gone, he doesn’t get the best stats but that’s because most of his work isn’t recorded on paper. The energy he brings to the foward line is unmatched. He is constantly leaping at balls to smother them and applying pressure. He is a defensive foward.
