    Brilliant vid , brought back a lot of memories, in 1970 I would have been 7 yr old , now 60 , remember arriving in the Kepple boat to the harbour and my mum playing bingo in the fairground at the back of the gardens, good memories and winning the sand castle competition at the far beach , going round the back of the island to the beach and having toffee apples , Mapes bikes still hiring out the bikes with that same old smell, fishing off the boat from the harbour towards the little Cumbria , stopping at Nardini’s before crossing the water, now living in the Cotswolds but I brought my kids up to the lovely wee island , all the best 👍

    Loved the video, can remember going my holidays to Millport in 1974 , got across on the Waverley, we used to hire out bikes and cycle round the island past the big indian face, there was a marine museum as you came back into Millport with a octopus in it, we’d walk across to the cafe at Fintrry bay, also used to go to the Garrison on the sea front , it had amusements and a real flee pit cinema there, I can remember seeing Frankie Howard’s “Up Pompeii” there , real joyous happy days none of my family were in this video but they still felt like my own folk, thanks for rekindling the memories 😊

    Time Obliterates All Things . The proud handsome young
    father in this film is now a white haired old man bent with
    age . Perhaps passed away ? The carefree young Mum perhaps in a care home - all memories of this day wiped
    clean from her memory. Life is Cruel . Live every day as
    though it was the last . 🙏🙏🙏

    • @DerekCadzow
      @DerekCadzow  Před 2 lety +3

      A very realistic speculation given the amount of time that has passed. In fact, although the grandparents are long gone, the carefree young Mum is aging but spry and alert. The handsome young father is still with us but in a nursing home. The kids are all doing well and thriving. Life can be cruel, but it can also be full of beautiful moments as long as, as you say, we live every day fully and stay in the moment. Thanks for your comment. :)

      No , thank YOU for your reply. It's a great unanswered question : is
      anything worse than happy times
      remembered when the future holds only loss and pain ?
      Beautiful footage anyway and
      will now be around for ever ?!!
      Something the camera user could never have imagined at the time.
      Sorry to hear about the young father but pass on my prayers to
      your (?) Mum.

  • @DLWELD
    @DLWELD Před 2 lety +1

    Good steady filming. What camera did he use? A Bolex or? Where and how did you get it digitized - it looks great - if you can see the grain in the film it's a good digitize...

    • @DerekCadzow
      @DerekCadzow  Před 2 lety

      DLWELD, that's a good question. This was 52 years ago now and my grandfather has been gone a long time. I had it done by a commercial digitization service in the US. A friend of mine has had good results with this machine, but I haven't tried it myself: www.amazon.ca/dp/B08LQXV7VV?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share&fbclid=IwAR3EouDk7VUPXPqyf9_D7bFZoLrcL9XgfZ2CKbHzWU8bluXvjwiv2q73X5w

      @@DerekCadzow lol at 1.25 on video there are two older ladies on the pier and one is wearing a rainmate on her head. It was a folded piece of plastic with tiers you could wear over a hat or your hair to keep the rain off. They were commonly worn.
