  • This 12 minute video of a drive through Gourock Scotland recorded by Frank L Gosselin in 1987 is a rare look back at how the town has changed over the years. Includes a short bit of Greenock as well.

Cheers, Frank. Really enjoyed that. Amazing how little Gourock (and Hugh Keevens' voice) have changed. I was -4 in '87 but still remember The Bay Hotel being demolished.

Just passed my test in 1987, I don’t remember how quiet the roads were. Mostly British built cars then - Ford and BL, or Austin Rover or whatever they were calling themselves at the time.

Wife and I just finished sausage rolls and chips from Scottish Gourmet while reminiscing this drive from the video. Regular visitors to Saltcoats.

Where are all the parked cars on Albert and Ashton Road?!?! Wow, almost two full lanes, what a luxury. Not now! But roadworks, there's a surprise... What a great video, up Barrhill Road too, and what a view!

Amazing how little the place has changed... Apart from the new lower kempock layout and the removal of the Bay Hotel and the old post office building, it looks very much the same today. I was 10 when this was filmed.

“Janeys” at The Bay. Where we used to get served drink at 15/16 years old and thought we had made it in life but spewed all weekend after and got grounded for a month for going home drunk after a half glass of vodka and coke and a mouthful of becks 😂😂

I remember him well. He was in my young brothers class. They were good friends if I remember rightly. You have a daughter too if I remember rightly? Which I often don’t.😂 I don’t want to mention her full name but started with Ch right? Your son must be around 43ish and daughter 45ish? I remember cuz my brother was friends with Frankie and I was a year above.
