To me, one of the biggest details about this movie is that Ballister saved Nimona from herself at the end. He didn't save her from some big bad, he stopped her from ending her own life.

I will admit, I feel bad for Gloreth as well. She wasn't evil, she was just a little kid who believed her parents and the other adults in her life. It was a tragedy what happened between and Nimona.
I’d like to think if given the chance, Nimona would have forgiven her. With time of course.
@@TheRoomforImprovement I do too. :)
No she was still evil, she made a society made anything different form them. I know she was just a kid but that doesn’t justify her doing that.
@@Creepie_CLAWZ Possibly, but we don't know for certain. Thanks to Nimona's flashback, we know what really happened 1000 years ago. The rest of the movie shows us what their society became. But the time between those points is still a mystery.
Did Gloreth deliberately set out to create the society and the Institute we see in the movie? Or was she used by others as a prop and figurehead to push their agenda?
For that matter, did the founders of the Institute know the truth of what happened between Gloreth and Nimona and suppress that knowledge? Or was it lost and distorted as years, decades, and centuries passed?
We simply don't know.
@@Shax22132 I have mixed feelings on Gloreth, I understand that her negative feelings towards Nimona were brought on by her parents.. but 1, she had known Nimona quite a while before and she looks around 7-10, like... seriously...?
I don't hate her, I'm just so dissapointed that despite all of the memories she made with Nimona, her opinion on her changed just like that.
Something I noticed in the big "monster battle" is that Nimona herself doesn't cause any serious harm or destruction (aside from that one billboard). All the destruction is caused by the knights attacking her. She never goes to hurt anyone but the people throw bricks and stones at her. The city hurt itself.
plus, the billboard was showing an ad about "I killed a monster!!"
any time nimona 'does damage' it's in self defense in that sequence
According to ND Stevenson, the medieval/sci fi aesthetic is representative of how while this society has advanced technologically, they're still stuck in the same, medieval mindset and prejudices. So it's a cool design choice and it serves the movie's themes.
oh that's cool!! i thought about that before, but didn't know if the metaphor was intentional or not
its an ageless problem
Oh! That's so interesting, Nate is so creative!!
Bro the symbolism in this moving is just mind blowing!!
Wow, that is cool and deep!
Ugh...God, Nimona's backstory really speaks to the fact that kids aren't naturally hateful. They're trained to be.
Exactly
Unfortunately, you're right! It's us adults who need to learn for the kids on how to act around one another! It doesn't matter what beliefs, skin color, romantic interests, gender, or any of that! The singular thing that SHOULD matter is whether or not you're a kind/good person❤️❤️❤️❤️
also, kid's are not born in the wrong body, they are trained to think that can happen. works both ways.
@@xhelan131no that's just cuased by nature. 😅 nature isn't perfect, quite the opposite. But maybe if people weren't so restrictive they'd feel comfortable without transitioning

Another thing that I kinda take from the scene at 24:40 when Nimona turns into a shark, she turns into something that a majority of people would consider dangerous when in actuality, most sharks are not all that dangerous as everybody makes them out to be. This is all I have to say, take this as you will

First The Owl House and now Nimona. Disney truly can’t seem to understand a true masterpiece. But as long as society makes it seem like LGBTQ is unprofitable, the problem will only get worse. I love this movie. The representation is amazing. My favorite part is how they incorporate the shape shifting into the fighting.
hear me out tho... Disney doesn't see LGTBQ as profitable, meaning companies who might give more freedom to writers that actually care about LGTBQ get their hands on stories like this and Owl House. then Disney goes out of business?
People really do beisunderstanding what im saying here. I just posed this as a funny theoretical where Dinsey keeps blundering like this and projects like Nimona go out to better people, i didnt mean its happening or will happen
the problem with the higher ups of disney is that they are too afraid to take risks. too afraid to try something that they feel isn't "disney" when in reality you should be experimenting.
@@glyph__have you been under a rock or something

Eugene voicing Ambrosius is literally the most perfect casting ever.

“If you don’t, you’re gonna die in this closet!”
I literally had to pause the movie just to process that line. There is no possible way that was an accident, they purposefully did that.
Omg if that was intentional that would be amazing
Yeah I don’t think that was coincidental, this movie took YEARS in production hell so they took their sweet time putting these details in…
Makes me wonder if homophobia exists in the world of Nimona
I didn't put that together till just now
The first time we see them together, their alone away from prying eyes. The director never mentions anything about them being in a relationship, being an issue in ambroseious finding ballister. She never says "I know you love him" or anything like that. Todd 100% was the type to make of fun of people for being gay. If he knew they were in a relationship, he definitely would have made homophobic comments about it. All he says to ambroseious is that he "knew ballister better than anyone." That doesn't suggest he knew they were together romantically.
Also there was the "nachos?" Scene. I have a theory that's where they met in secret, so they could go on dates without being seen by anyone from the institute. Even Nimona doesn't seem to connect the dots that they are together. I think they were keeping their relationship a secret.
I don't think that line was there by accident. Meeting nimona helped them be able to express their love in public. Without the fear of being shunned.
I love how this movie shows the effect fear can have on people. Golorith was a child, fed a lie by her own parents. She didn't know what the truth was, she was just scared. scared because she didn't understand. "The person I've been playing with everyday is a monster? what do you mean? could I have been hurt this whole time..?" etc. But the director...Listen to how they both deliver the line "go back to the shadows from whence you came". The director says it with pure malice. Its pretty accurate to life. generations of fear lead to deep-rooted hatred...
As a transwoman, this movie never gets old. Just hearing, and seeing it feels.. so amazing. (From south US and not really a friendly nor safe place) this setting hits so so hard. This movie will always have a special place in my heart and life.
As a fellow US southerner, I wish you the best

This is actual fear. That's hand trembling.
People can be indoctrinated enough to truly believe that something benign is dangerous. It is, in fact, possible to get a person close to something like Peeta in Hunger Games where irrational objects are seen as outright deadly.
Considering the Director (interestingly enough, we never get a name for the Director, and we notice a lot of people mix up Gloryth and the Director, which may be intended due to what we're about to say,) has shown herself to possess great knowledge and study of Gloryth's institute, it's likely that before she received that role she was taught for a significant amount of time like expected, but she also continues to research now (we don't want to make too many direct finger points, but this can easily be compared to someone who considers it important to read the whole bible front to back at least once or twice a year as well as having a audio bible to sleep with.)
She also has admitted to having paranoia and nightmares.
People who are told over and over again that something is the bringer of the end of the world, who grow into an advanced role, and are also given the burden of knowing what could happen, aren't stable. They're paranoid, all the time. They'll stay up in the middle of the night wondering about how to prepare for the end of the world for the 9th time this week when there's only 7 days.
This spin cycle of brainwashing the entire population inside the walls has been occuring for 1000 years. 1000 years of passing the baton and becoming ever assured that one day, one of them will have to deal with the end times and they'll have to do the right thing. And each one getting more relief that they didn't have to be the one to deal with the apocalypse and retired first.
So the Director, here, to be honest, probably only expected to kill the queen and be done. Crisis averted. When she saw this monster (Nimona) come in exactly as was told, she had a fucking breakdown because of the realization that she was the one that was tasked to deal with this. End of the world, and she now is the lucky victim who has to protect the whole fucking world from ending.
Serious indoctrination can do this.
...before anyone even starts to feel bad, though, the Director does have traits that don't come from that starter pack, such as the fact that she took out the queen and a legion of guards (the people around Nimona is normal, but taking out not only your leader but a swath of members is not normal since that would be essentially fratricide,) which still makes her a vicious, self-important, vindictive piece of shit.
-L----/D--/R--, Greenpier System
🟦🟦🟥
This is a great comment, I thought that she would actually be afraid of a “monster”, based on what her, and everyone believes.
You cannot blame her for fear, only the way that she took it farther than most people would, wanting to obliterate half of the city.
(Which would be about half of the entire human population)
I love how this movie is subtle enough for kids to get the message without seeing the major issue it points out but clear enough to really stab at adults with it’s message
The problem with Disney is that they don't look past the LGBTQ+ elements. Its either they cancel shows and movies because of it, or they allow it only because it gives them clout, which is just disgusting, to say the least. I've only watched Nimona once(so far), and it's probably the fastest any movie has made into my top favorites. Disney really missed their chance of improving their reputation
I'm sorry for grammar correction but it is not they're it's their
If it's something that's extremely minor Disney will keep it to pander to audiences in the West while conveniently sweeping it under the rug if they're showing the movie in a regressive theocracy like Saudi Arabia. If however the entire movie is based around it then it's cancelled.
The thing you have to remember about Disney is that its not that they hate queer people, its just that they really really like money.
And they don't discriminate, they're happy to take money from queer people, and to take money from bigots.
The problem is that the execs at the top worry that if they make queer people to happy then the bigots will stop giving them there money. So they try to fence sit as much as possible.
Knowing them, they would've toned it down drastically
Has to do with said community never being happy about a representation of them unless it involves a main character on a story following a certain direction.
We also all know Disney isn't the kind to write a story based on a minority, and its audience isn't exactly interested in that anyway. They target the majority, especially in a time many big movies fail to interest people to the benefit of streaming services and smaller scaled productions that can "afford" to be more audacious on their scenarios.
I'm not against all of that but hell, it is now mandatory in some studio to a point it's exhausting.
This movie is a not so subtle trans/non-binary allegory (written when the author was struggling with his own journey), it is a HUGE deal that it was saved and is doing well. So glad people are enjoying it. I can't wait to see this be super successful and Disney be like "WTF did we cancel this?" It would't be the first time.
To be fair, i'm glad they did, because i don't think we would have been watching the same excelent movie if disney had any say in it.^^

The Blue Sky artists don't get enough credit in this. Disney asked them to make changes in regards to the LBGTQ themes of the movie (as in erase them) but the artists defended the integrity of the film. It's why Disney cancelled this movie and shut down Blue Sky studio. If they had caved, this movie wouldn't have been this good.
@@benoitcecyre7081 I'm glad they're mentioned in the credits. They deserve the appreciation.
Nah, I feel like they probably didn’t finish it just cuz Blue Sky was competition. They want a monopoly after all, so they bought and killed Blue Sky.
@ma.2089
That makes no sense. First off, Disney bought Fox. Getting Blue Sky was more by accident than by intent. They didn't buy Fox to buy Blue Sky, they bought Fox for Fox. After that, Disney was the owner of Blue Sky studio. How could they be competition? At that point, Blue Sky was no more a competitor than Pixar is.
Also, the Blue Sky artists have come forward since the studio's closing and have explained what Disney did. What I said wasn't born out of speculations or personal biases. It was informed by those who really knew what went on.
@@benoitcecyre7081 Yeah, if Disney had kept it they would've watered down the LGBTQIA themes massively. I'm glad they stuck to their guns and found another distributor more willing to let them make the movie they wanted to make.

And even when it's been years since that has happened i still have trust issues. I didn't go to prison by the way they we're just feared mongering me to punish me for standing up for myself when the people that are supposed to didn't.

I love that in the end Nimona chose to be a Phoenix. A Phoenix means rebirth. Such as the change of mind from "things I don't understand are monsters and monsters deserve to die" to "even though I might not understand it and I might never understand it I should try and respect it". The world is making so much progress and still has so far to go. Every good representation matters.
The human race is always going forwards yet backwards honestly I myself have quoted the phrase humanity is evolving but backwards more times than I can count when it comes to people and although I mainly use it to describe how people are getting less intelligent I think it also describe how people are also being terrible towards one another as well and something definitely needs to be done about it or humanity is not going to survive long as a species it'll be destroyed by its own hands

I haven't seen a lot of other ppl mention it but I loved the dynamic between Ballister and Nimona--- it's not father/child, they're not immediate found family. Ballister is a queer dude taught by society how to act 'correctly', to try and fit in so he can become a knight, and seeing someone as free as Nimona made him VERY uncomfortable at the beginning! Of course he comes around, and he is a lovely character, but throughout many of the scenes between him and Nimona it reminded me A LOT of people in the LGBTQ+ community who punch down, blame new laws and restrictions on "the bad gays" who just want to unapologetically live their lives. People who are queer but shun others who are "too loud" or "too vulgar". We shouldn't have to be palatable to society's standards just to be respected as people!
In all honesty sometimes I think the queer people who think this way are scarier than your average bigot. You don't NEED to understand someone's label inside and out to respect them! We've gone from using labels as self-identifiers for comfort and understanding ourselves, and flipped it around into forcing queer people into tiny understandable boxes. Seeing Ballister come around, idk, it gives me hope that maybe other queer people will unlearn that shame

I love how it took all of five minutes for Elijah to become deeply emotionally invested in Ballister and Ambrosius' relationship.
I personally love the scene where she is starting to drive her heart towards the sword. Not for what she is trying to do in the scene, but for how they depicted her roar. And nimona I love her a lot and they can't leave us of on her showing up at the end after thinking she died. ❤❤❤
Ninmona is the most greatest character of this and I find out she a lesbian and I can’t believe she was betrayed😱😱😱😱😱❤️❤️
"i don't know what's scarier, the fact that everyone in this kingdom wants to drive a sword through my heart or that sometimes I just wanna let them" breaks me everytime because as a trans person this hits so close to home and I feel the exact same way. Sometimes it feels like it'd just be easier to let them win instead of trying so hard to get them to accept something they're never going to fully accept.
I commented almost the exact same thing.
also trans here-people will fully accept u. i promise. u just have to find the right people. i know its hard when the ppl that u know and trust dont accept u for who u are, but hang in there 🫶 i spent so long worrying about the people who would see me as lesser or an "other" for being trans that i learned to see my transness as a burden, but i found a group of people who truly see and accept me and it has made life so much better. there is so much love in this world, u just have to find those who will give it to u. got pretty sappy here but u are beautiful just as u are and i promise people will realize that 🩵🩵

a word like "sapphic" for women loving women is quite often referred to as "achillean" for men loving men! just like the sapphic umbrella, the acchillean umbrella can include gay men, but also bisexuals, pansexuals, and more :0
also i love the fact that you noticed ballister and ambrosius' relationship so soon ahah. when i saw their hands touch i screamed "GAY" very loudly lmao
i love your videos
Acchillean, checks out
Idk "achilliean" was a word🤔. Sounds latin to me. But hey, if it's a fact, I respect and thank you for the information🙏🏽❤️

Raeda (Raine and Eda): 👁️👄👁️ i beg to differ 😏
I literally thought that she was going to point that out, XD.
At first when I was gonna watch it, I actually thought it was a series 😂 just gave the vibe when seeing shorts about it
I think the parts where Nimona says “I don’t know what’s scarier, the fact that everyone in this kingdom wants to drive a sword into my heart, or that sometimes, I just want to let them” was such a punch to the gut for me.
It’s hard and I’m so tired, but I’m still here. To everyone who also was affected by this, I see you. Stay safe, please, it will get better one day, I promise. And to those who want it or appreciate it, I’ll pray for you ❤
that scene hit me the most bc i am suicidal so yeah that hits me so damn hard
Same here i was suicidal once and that hit me way too hard in the gut.. thank god for therapists helping me through heavy depression(uωu 人)💕💕
It actually hit a deep scar that I had 3 years ago, and to make it worse for me was the moment Nimona was about to let her heart go through the sword and started let out a supposed last scream at the world for how unfair, cruel and hateful it has been to her, and by then I finally allowed myself to cry on this moment, which reminded me of how much i hid my pain many years and of how much I've just held in my true feelings and self simply because I didn't have enough courage to do anything, or enough desire to let go of the world on my own terms. This movie was done so well, it hit and showed the collective feelings of those whose diversity is still deemed as simply wrong and abominable, and it told the story of those before us who had to suffer worse than just being slurred at every moment behind their backs. This movie is amazing and it's done so well in the department of representation and storytelling.
Yea, I have so many thoughts of doing the same thing and honestly it’s tough. I’m glad the movie touched on that subject. Sometimes we just need someone to hold out their hand, tell us that their there for us and that we’re not alone.
I’m so proud of you for still being here, and you do belong here, everyone who reads this does💛
I am genderfluid and came out to my mum about 2 years ago. It still felt fresh and she still had trouble accepting me, so I made her watch this movie with me so she could understand me more. She finally does. Her and I cried multiple times, she apologised for so many things and finally accepted me for who I am and told me to never hide ever again. This movie helped me fully be accepted by her, and helped my inner child heal. Nimona is absolutely wonderful and if there was a dvd, I would 100% buy it. It will be one of my comfort movies forever. The story, the artstyle, the references with all the kinds of struggle people from the LGBTQ+ community can go through, the growth and pain, it is a masterpiece for all of us. I am so so grateful for this movie to exist, and tbh you embodied all my reactions so much, thank you for this video. Cried again. ❤❤❤❤❤❤
I’m so glad this movie helped you to be fully understood :D
Phenomenal, absolutely wonderful 💕
I'm so happy she finally understands you!!! So proud of you for coming out too
That’s so sweet ;;; I’m so glad this was a healthy way that your mom could understand you!
Thats amazing, I'm so happy for you and your mum. This is why movies like this are SO, SO important. ❤
Nimona: ARM CHOPPING IS NOT A LOVE LANGUAGE
Ambrosius: ARM CHOPPING IS NOT A LOVE LANGUAGE!
They said the same sentance😂😂😂😂
I found this movie yesterday and when i tell you...DAMN THIS MOVIE IS GOOD. This is my new fav movie.
The mm equivalent of "sapphic" is "Achillean"
And about pronouns thing, it's honestly okay when you fumble. We aren't offended. We only get upset if we tell you our pronouns and you reject or mock it upfront.
You are really perceptive, like you really called out every twist, and every trans allegory. And you pointed out little details i missed. This is my fave reaction. And thank you for all your sweet words for the trans community.❤
Also, I'm SO grateful for this movie. I briefly heard it has trans allegory so i checked it out. Since it's a PG, i didn't expect explicit rep. But OMFG. it's rare enough to have this authentic rep, but it also as great animation and a story!
So you can imagine my shock when i saw this movie. And funnily enough, i immediately picked up on Ambrosius being flirtatious. I got giddy but then shook my head at myself. (I'm used to being scolded or mocked when i 'read too much' into things). So you can imagine my excitement when it was revealed later they were a couple.
And being enby, this movie is healing for me. It's like this movie took EVERYHING i felt inside and put it on screen. I'm so glad Netflix saved this. Screw Disney, they didn't deserve this movie.
Even if Disney made it it would have been censored heavily, so glad Netflix revived it
@@masterquacc not only that, but they would pat themselves on the back for being "gracious enough" to leave a TINY bit in. And then there'd be countless news outlet that announces how this is their "first gay character" and go on and on about the tiny rep they allowed in the final project. Makes me squirm just thinking about it.
Oh yeah Achillean makes sense cause doesn't the term sapphic come from Sapphos? Love that
"I may be a sucker for Sapphic romances, _but Achillean ones are my one weakness!_ "

Nimona is living proof that there is potential to revive scrapped projects. That being said, I hope other studios take this movie's success into consideration and give their scrapped projects another chance. I'm still mad that Disney shut down Blue Sky. Such a wasted potential.
I'm so glad that at least Nimona got resurrected and they kept the art style. The movie was really fun.
Now there’s no chance of a sequel either 😢
The Indie game studio Wayforward JUST announced that they are reviving one of their cancelled games so yeah that is 100% correct
Yeah, it's honestly really fitting for Nimona to be one of those that you think is dead but then goes "I lived B*tches!"
@@masterquacci don't think a sequel would really work for this story ngl

Elijah's videos are amazing; she reacts to all the series/movies I love; this was really fun to watch her predict all the big twists. My friend had also brought up the Eda and Raine thing with the "Arm chopping is NOT a LOVE LANGUAGE!" so that's also something. In their case it is indeed a love language.
one detail i love about the "i see you, Nimona" is that Bal looks into the eyes of the creature and not the chest, where the scroll showed Nimona residing. He doesnt see the form they take. he sees THEM. For all that they are. He accepts every part of Nimona. The good, the bad and the ugly.
"They grew up believing that they can be a hero if they drive a sword into the heart of anything that is different" gave me chills the first time i watched this movie
And we grew up believing that just being yourself and not conforming to society expectations will give you nothing but grief.
i´m not queer, but as BDSM sub guy, that bloomed/came out to this in the time before internet, i very well know that feeling....

i never really payed attention to that line, but hearing it again just opened my eyes
As an autistic adult, the shape shifting reminds me of masking. Like her human form is the mask and whatever she feels like is her true personality. When he asked her “does it hurt to shape shift,” she said “actually I feel better when I shapeshift. You know how when you have to Sneeze and finally do? It’s like that.” That’s how it feels to be autistic.
As a trans and autistic person, this probably explains even more why I relate to Nimona
@@luanunes14 I’m so glad both your trans and autistic side are being validated. I’m cis, so I don’t know what it’s like to be trans. But I’m glad we can share Nimona. Not even animals wanted anything to do with her. It made me cry because no matter how I mask, my autism is there. But trans people have masks too. They hide too and I’m so sorry you had to hide. I’m really, truly, sorry. And I’m crying as I say this cuz it’s hard. But just so you know. Just so everyone knows, you deserve to exist.

My lesbian sibling has came out (not as non-binary but as lesbian) and my mom has been “supportive”. Behind their back she says “She just hang found the right guy, I may set her up with someone.” And it breaks my heart to hear my mom of all people say that. I've seen half a dozen reactions to this film now, and nearly everyone has started sobbing when Nimona starts "I don't know what's scarier-" for the second time. The immediate realization and the deep, intense grief that comes with it. God this movie is so good.
i was tearing up at the first time, because then, she just mentioned it as if that was a daily thought, not worth talking about....
We need a season two that movie would have been so great as a series
sorry this is a long comment. When Elijah talked I about finding people who love you.
The moment she said " I love you I don't even know who you are and I love you." I was dying on the inside so much I actually cried. I bottle up my feelings and most of the time I have trouble sharing my emotions I most of the time I feel stupid for it. So thank you Elijah so much for that. ♥️♥️
As someone who is not LGBTQ+, I know what it's like to be an outsider as someone who immigrated to america it was tough adjusting. Somehow this movie spoke to me of my difference and when I was a kid it felt like I'm always the outsider. And yes I cried my manly tears at the emotional climax.
The fact that this movie can connect to anyone is truly special.
@@ashleypisarts oh yes. You know you did something right when the message is received by more than your target.
What is TQ+? A bunch of deviant, delinquent degenerates trying to leech off other people by lumping themselves with them. And they're wondering why people don't like them. When you're repulsive and unlikable, that's what you get and it's well-deserved. LGB does not want to be lumped with those freaks; they make them look awful.
@@ashleypisartsI agree with you on this 100%
I saw another comment make this point on another video about Nimona, but at 46:46, when the Director says she was worried about a crack in the wall, or a crack in the system, she *is* that crack. Look at it this way. If she hadn't switched Ballister's sword, and set him up to frame him, he would have never met Nimona and gone through the adventure he does throughout the movie. *She* is the reason that the system is unraveled and overthrown, the exact thing she was afraid of. Pretty ironic if you ask me.
Sounds like a self-fulfilling prophecy
People often find what they want to avoid on the path they take to avoid it.

It reminds me of something I once heard about the Bible. Something about how American Christians treat the warnings against false prophets and the like to be warnings against non-Christians, but in the original text, then intent is to warn Christians not to fall into those behaviors themselves.

You’re right. She turned into fenix so she could reborn from ashes and survive. I like that they let sink in that Nimona is dead so you can be more happy that she actually survived. Bal stopping her from ending herself was so well written and all that hit me like a train. My new favourite movie for now
Phoenix
Well that's kinda true but her powers are actually more then shape shifting. She has basically super regeneration where she can even reform from being atomized so the form she takes doesn't matter all that much because she can regenerate
@@artemisfowl7332 yeah probably but it’s still a nice touch from directors and writers to make it this way. Also I don’t think that she was able to resurrect if she was stabbed through the heart like she said so doubling her chances of survival by being a fenix is really nice
@anthropyrequien6227 “Fenix” is a bunch of branding nonsense, “phoenix” is the mythical creature from the Greek. Sure, English is common usage, but there is value in understanding not only of the current use, but the history of use.

The MLM equivalent to Sapphic is Achillean!
This movie is so good, I watched it with my roomate tonight after we had a long discussion about relevant trauma, and oh boy, did that make this movie hit like a truck. I love all of the representation, and the morals of the story, and it just means a lot to feel represented. In the first few minutes I went "I ship it, oh wait are they...? OH MY GOD!" Such a good movie
Really? I would have guessed "Adonic". *Checks wikipedia entry for Adonis.* Wow. It's been a while since I read the classics.
NAH SAME BRO. I laid eyes upon those men and my gaydar went off the charts and then like a minute later OHMYGOD HELL YEAH THEY'RE A THING (also it's so damn GOOD to see their relationship be so UNAPOLOGETIC and NORMALIZED.)
Damn that's cool! I'm using that from now on
Sad how it does have the same ring as Sapphic. But that's largely because people don't use it enough, which is a shame. It's the first time I'm hearing about it.
I have already watched this twice. I love what an emotional roller coaster this movie is! ❤ Well written.
I had a personal Nimona moment. I got bullied in school for over ten years. My snapping point was during class. Someone sitting behind me constanly threw food (grapes and bredcrums) on me. I tired to ignore it but eventually I just couldn't bear it anymore. I turned around and screamed at my classmate "leave me the fuck alone you fucking asshole".I think you can guess where this is going next. My teacher kicked me out of class. That led to my class laughing at me for being kicked out and bullying me even further. Funny thing is... the bullying stopped. But only after word about my moms death got out.
So much for "and I'm the monster". That was years ago, Iam 24 now and long out of school but that memory just is so burned into my head that I still see it so clearly.

I love how the wishing well actually comes into play to her actual back story
im a trans woman, and in the scene where bal takes the arrow out of nimona's leg, i could not believe what i was watching, because it was a near word -for-word recreation of my go-to metaphors for describing what dysphoria feels like to me. that and the fact that you can see a trans flag in the background of that scene makes it even more powerful. i've never seen anything like this representation for us, and I am LIVING
"Once everyone sees you as a villain, that’s what you are. They only see you one way, no matter how hard you try. "
That line made me want to hug Nimona. Such an amazing quote!! That's true in the real world!!!
This has to be one of my favorite reactions ever, I love the reaction and honestly this is how everyone should act. Thank you Elijah.
57:16 What's funny is, most people can sympathize/ empathize with a silly cartoon shapeshifter in a movie, but some of those same people will also demonize people they don't understand because their parents trained them to disarm monsters. Arm chopping is treated like a love language when the message is I'll disarm the monsters to save the world for the people I love. The eye highlights are very symbolic! Glad you picked up on that, I've wanted to talk about it.
Diamonds - Diamonds are found in characters like Gloreth and the Director. They symbolize the institute. Nimona has diamonds, but they're rounded showing her distrust for the institute.
Squares - Ballister has square highlights, displaying how he doesn't fit perfectly into the institute. He has diamonds in his knighting, showing how he feels he belongs for once.
Triangles - Ambrosius has triangle eyes. They're half diamonds, symbolizing his split loyalties between the institute and Ballister.
Oh that's really cool
My girlfriend and I watched this the first time she came over and she just screamed "THEY'RE GAY." And I was like "Yes love, they are." (We're both girls, she was just excited the first movie we picked to watch had lgbt rep)

What I absolutely despise is that Disney bought out Blue Sky and then casually shut them down saying it was too expensive to maintain. This was simply them getting rid of competition.
“Too expensive”, yet they spent all that money to buy it.
Ugh. The business side of Disney sucks so bad, it’s always killing amazing projects.
True, Blue Sky's films also have a history of being political. So, for all we know, Disney got rid of them because they didn't like their point of view on storytelling.
it wasn't about competition rlly it was about the LGBTQ themes in nimona, Disney actually asked blue sky to tone it down and blue sky fought back.
after i watched the show and your reaction i got the comic and was absolutely in love with it instantly

Really? I just didn’t see a single moment where she made it clear that this was specifically unpleasant. I think she is rather uncomfortable with the stigma of “Monster”, which has been hanging on her for about 1000 years. The one caveat I have to that is that in this scene later he calls nimona she while talking to golden boy
@@coopermiller6259nimona never objects to being called she, she just says they aren't a girl.
Yeah and besides, there have been a few instances where I have accidentally used the wrong pronoun on a friend. I make sure to apologize and they tell me it's fine. There's probably lots of people like Ballister in that instance.
I like the "I'm Nimona" line and what it represented. But when I tried to explain to my parents the meaning to it they responded with "Don't try to act like you know what it means. Don't pretend to be smart". I don't like they think that way
