Unless your an absolute donkey this swing doesn’t work at the highest level due to the hips being thrown prior to the activation of the hands, just my opinion
Just bec he strikes out a lot doesn’t mean that it’s his swing causing all of the strike outs. This swing just teaches u to get your barrel in the zone early / quickly and keep it there for as long as possible. I’ve always hit that way and never had any trouble
Ichiro was amazing, and I also believe he can’t be imitated. He did things wrong for the masses, but it worked perfectly for him. As a former Seattle resident, it was a treat to watch him
Imagine there’s a string tied from your back hip to the the backstop so you cannot move forward. Now without moving your back foot you have to rip that string off the fence. Violent but controlled hip rotation.
The only difference is you are loading your hands higher in your bad example which then requires more drastic external rotation to get back in the direction of them ball

Your back leg.. momentum is created.. then yes it's absolutely hand path.. the only external rotation taking place is the timing mechanism getting the barrel ready to slam the pearl at the point of contact while rotating the hips against a locked front leg while driving your momentum against a closed front foot.
I don't like this batting drill.. the head is going up in the air. Can't see the ball. You are making more pop Flys then hits or homeruns.. it looks more like a homerun swing.. so you have a 2 strike on you. U will use the same swing again.. u will strike out or pop fly again. You can only hit a fast middle...
I don’t believe that u and others really understand what’s actually going on in the swing… whenever he swings hard etc to demonstrate the swing his head flys out etc and doesn’t look right a lot of the time but he’s an older man so I understand that he might not demonstrate it like a young man would. The swing works. It just gets your barrel in the zone early and stays in the zone. Whenever he’s demonstrating it slowly vs hitting a ball it’s a little different. I thought the same thing the first time that I watched his videos but I l’ve been hitting exactly the same way my whole life and never had any probs and I’m a little small guy…
To all this is nothing new !! To teach this to a 9yr old You ever skip a rock ? Try it as you will see how skipping a rock is very similar to you r swing Fyi Jim Spencer former Yankee gave me this suggestion YEARS AGO thus he teaches nothing new
Countless Hall of Famers swung like that. A majority of the recent greats swing using those same mechanics, also, so research that to verify that as a fact.
This 100% creates bad habits. We had a coach try teaching this garbage. Ruined a great hitters swing.. this crap causes pop up outs way more than it helps swings.

Work on building the coil /loading rear hip.
Once you feel that coil, releasing the coil is quite easy.
