    Well, this review has taken a lot longer than we thought, but now you can finally find out what we thought of Schuberth's all-important new flipfront helmet after 600 miles or so of road use...
    UPDATE: The Schuberth C5 has now been tested under the UK Government's SHARP impact testing programme, and scored four stars. Full details here... sharp.dft.gov.uk/helmets/schu...

    Great review. I learned a lot. Nobody else I've heard goes into so many details about the C5. Unless Schuberth comes up with a solution to the misting issue and loose visors or provides a replacement for affected units, I'd be cautious about giving them my money. I've read more than one review talking about the toylike quality of their C3 or C4. But, if you never ride in the rain or don't mind fixing your lose visor, then this may be the helmet for you.

    Best helmet I’ve owned. Just had an initial issue with the sc2 connectors at back of helmet meaning I had no sound at all. Mine had dropped below tabs that hold it in place. Had to use tweezers to pull it back up and lock it in place. Only found this out after googling it.

      I had a long period of time between reviewing the two helmets so I'm not really in a position to directly compare them from my experience. But the two helmets are clearly the stand-out options in the flipfront category. I can tell you the C5 excels in ventilation, peripheral vision and flexibility. I'd say you're best trying both helmets on for yourself to see which suits you best, as they are both excellent helmets on the whole. I hope that helps. Cheers, Tony

    Exactly the same problem on my C3 pro. It's my second C3 pro (bought from you guys, great service). But the misting issue really bad. Bought a new different pinlock, the 120 variant and same problem. Can be really quite dodgy in bad weather to be fair as it steams up a lot. Something definitely not right. Seems like good luck if people don't have problems and that shouldn't be the case, the helmets aren't cheap! Shame to see the same issue here as I could have been tempted.

      Sorry to hear you've struggled with the same issue. It must be hard to balance keeping rain out without stopping vapour getting out, but it's frustrating and distracting when our vision is affected. Let's hope Schuberth pick up on it and can see a solution. Thanks for getting in touch. Cheers, Tony

    Great review. I have been looking at the website trying to make my mind up but unsure the size to purchase. I have a 58-58.5 cm head and am usually a medium by head probably longer shape. Also if one shell size does xs all the way up to large does this mean that if all the lining were removed these helmets would be identical and the size difference is just made up using the removable lining? So if I ordered a medium and found it was a bit tight could I just replace the medium lining with large and it would then be a large helmet? Thanks SPS

    • @sportsbikeshop
      @sportsbikeshop  Před 2 lety

      Hi, it's quite likely that you'd be able to replace the lining from a large with one from a medium, but linings are not available as I write this and Schuberth list the price at €60 for the head pad set and €45 for the cheekpads so it would not be a cheap procedure to go that way. Best to try one in a shop or, if you buy online from us you can try it on at home and return for the larger size if you find it too tight. Thanks for getting in touch. Cheers, Tony

  • @mitch832
    @mitch832 Před 2 lety +1

    I'm in the market for a new helmet. I used to have a C3 Pro, was very satisfied with it, how it was built and how really quiet it was. I had to replace it only due to it getting old after 6 or 7 seasons. I tried some other helmets, currently having a Neotec 2, but I'm not completely satisfied with it because it's simply too loud (compared to C3 Pro). But it fits great, though.
    So I already planned to just get a new C3 Pro for this season, but I then realized the C5 was launched. It appears the C5 is actually more successor to C3 Pro, rather than C4 Pro (different design philosophy, and I found C4 family a bit of a failure anyway) and I'm now struggling between choosing "something new" or just go with "tried and tested". I ride naked bikes, and my only concern really is just the noise level.

    • @sportsbikeshop
      @sportsbikeshop  Před 2 lety

      Interesting dilemma - the known versus the unknown. Schuberth themselves say the C5 isn't as quiet as a C3 Pro (tested by them on a naked bike) so if it's a decision based purely on noise then you have to go with what you know works for you. There are a good number of areas where I would say the C5 is superior to the C3 Pro, but noise isn't one of them. Good luck coming to a decision and I hope this helps at least a little bit. Cheers, Tony

    Hello,
    I have a Schuberth C5 helmet size XXL 63, I would like to make the inside of the helmet slightly smaller. I notice you are selling replacement pads for this model. What is the thickness difference in mm between the head cushion set in size 61-XL and that for the XXL 63 size?
    I know I can purchase thicker cheek cushions from 15mm upto 20mm or even 25mm for this model, however I would like to know if it is possible to make the inside a tighter fit elsewhere.
    Regards,
    Michael.

    • @sportsbikeshop
      @sportsbikeshop  Před 2 lety +2

      Hi Michael, sorry but I don't have access to the information about the different thicknesses for the skull pad sets. I'd suggest contacting the UK distributor over this matter - www.bikerheadz.co.uk. It will be possible to adjust the fit around the head (not just the cheeks) as Schuberth are producing pad sets in different thicknesses. They do not have any stock at the moment, however. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. Cheers, Tony

    Seriously looking at a C5 to replace a Scorpion ADX1 as the new Scorpion replacement has an irritating inner vent closure on the inside of the chin bar that literally touches your teeth - a real bad design flaw. so looking at the C5 as a replacement helmet but still worried about the misting problem - can i ask is it possible to remove the Schuberth speakers to fit cardo speakers or are they fixed? i love the Cardo system (bought from you guys) and it is our groups choice of intercom so unlikely to change.

  • @lutzpetzold
    @lutzpetzold Před 7 měsíci

    I think the condensation inside the visor is because of the filter in the chin air intake. On exhaling warm air, the filter causes resistance of the mild exhale air stream allowing it time and space to cool off and turn into water droplets. Easy validation is to remove bug filter.

    The comment from Schuberth about anti fog is not used because they want optical clarity is rubbish. A properly coated visor should have anti fog on the inside, hard coat and oleophobic (; anti smudge) all over and perfect optics if the built their own mold rather than using a off the shelf blank. Any way pin lock will screw up the optics. Any thing else is cost cutting

      @alienbats In South Africa 🇿🇦, the new Shubert c5 will cost around R17k plus R9k for the comms unit.
      If you buy from a Shubert dealer (the only place you can in SA), you cannot return the helmet after leaving the store. (for any reason). That's about 2k dollars.

      If you're happy to strip out the speakers and cabling that come with the helmet then I think an S20 Evo would fit relatively well - but you'd have to use the glue plate mount as the rim of the C5 is too wide for the clamp mount. It won't be as neat as the dedicated system, but it would be obviously save you a lot of money. Someone out there may well have a cleverer method than mine, as there may be a way to plug the C5's standard speakers into your S20 Evo unit, but I can't see one.
