- How to clean and maintain your iRobot Roomba i7+ (7550) and base. Connected Robot Vacuum with Automatic Dirt Disposal. This is by far one of the best products I have ever owned and I would highly recommend the Roomba iRobot i7+ to anyone thinking about purchasing a smart vacuum. We currently own two of these one for upstairs and one for downstairs. These vacuums do an amazing job at keeping our floors clean as well as giving us our time back. The only thing you have to do is keep the maintenance up on the vacuum by cleaning once or twice a month depending on usage, and occasionally replacing the filter, brushes, and bag if you have the self-empty base.

2 years old, and this vid still extremely useful to new owners
The white plastic ends of each roller also pull off, you can do it with your fingers. I found a lot of dog hair behind those too.
Wonderful video, Big Mike!
There are alot of excellent additional tips in the comments. Many are compiled below:
Don't use a drill on the side brush screw! It is a self tapping screw into plastic thread.
An improperly set drill clutch could strip it quite easily.
Clean the two black bars stick out where the bin is located.
These are infrared sensors that detect the bin is full.
Below the extractor rollers there may be gunk on the dirt sensor and the vacuum path.
Clean that off with a slightly damp cloth.
The green cleaning rollers each have a plastic cap/bearing.
Spin that part on the roller while in your hand.
If it doesn't spin freely, there is hair/debris gunked up behind that part.
Pop them off with a screwdriver and remove all the hair behind that part.
There is a sponge in the rubber brushes. Don’t submerge them in water.
Just wipe them clean if needed.
If clearing dust with canned air, do it outside -- you will blow dust everywhere.
A much needed video for i7 owners. Thank you for the video!
donald wycoff my pleasure. Glad it helped. 😊
I cleaned the entire Roomba I7 because it went over a “surprise!” cat poop. Taking all the little screws out and washing everything was a pain. Be sure if you do this to NOT 😮wash the battery or any circuitry- just clean around it. Cleaned it, put it back together and it still wouldn’t charge. Finally, after redoing a million of the steps, I realized it had a plug that goes directly behind the Roomba and plugs from the wall to the Roomba itself. That finally took care of the issue. Just mentioning this, so hopefully I can save someone else the grief.
This was incredibly helpful, more details than previous ones. Thanks
Super helpful! I just got my i7 a month or so ago.... and this is exactly what I needed to know how to clean it!
Thanks for sharing this! I appreciate the quick rundown on replacement parts & cleaning! Super helpful!!!
Thanks man, appreciate a well done tutorial from someone who actually "wrenches"
I think its funny that u use a vacuum to clean a vacuum lol but great and helpful video thanks! It helped me find the hidden pet hair clog that was causing the issue, after it kept saying to empty the bin.
Right! LOL
Just got my i7plus . This video was very helpful. I didn’t know where to start with the maintenance of this.
Thanks for making this video. Simple an concise instructions!
Wow, great video. Two thumbs up! I didn't even know about the little square filter. Thanks!
Big Mike, you are amazing. I love how neat and tidy, and organized, your workspace is. I came here looking for help on how to fix a bumper error on my i7+ but tapping it doesn't seem to help the situation. Still learned a lot about cleaning so thanks!
Was super useful, thank you!
thanks for this!
Thanks for the video
Thank you very much. This was very helpful 👍😊
This was so helpful, thank you!
Yes it did help me a lot!! Thank you!
Thank you. Very helpful.
Thanks Big Mike. You helped.
Thank you. It did help. Appreciate
Really helped. Thanks.
Awesome video!! Thank you
Good video just a couple of pointers don't use a drill on the side brush screw its a self tapping screw into plastic thread a drill could strip that easily.
Also its a good idea to clean the two black bars stick out where the bin is located these are an inferred sensor that detects the bin is full.
Also if below the extractor rollers there is gunk on the dirt sensor and the vacuum path its worth cleaning that off with a slightly damp cloth.
If you have used damp cloth to clean the Roomba I would allow a couple of hours for it to dry before running otherwise dirt will just stick to the remaining damp areas.
Thank you for sharing
I just tap my filter every few cleanings and check it against a light to see if I can see through it easily. I’ll replace it in 6 months like you were saying. I do have the i7+.
Anyone thinking they would never buy one. Think again. These machines are great. My wife is super difficult when it comes to new cleaning tech. She threw the box out after 3 days. I knew that meant she approved. Just so ya know she has severe ocd and her pet peeve is cleanliness.
THANKS! Did it all by myself and I’m a girl! 💪🏽💪🏽💕💕💕Girl Power! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
You see the green brushes , you can pop the grey area and it’s going to have more hair which makes it hard for the brushes to spin as well.
Good video, Great machine 👍
It helped me Mike.
Thank you !!
Thanks!
Great video. Using a vacuum cleaner to remove all the dust does make a huge difference.
I just want to add that you can remove the caster on the front wheel and clean out the debris from the wheel well also.
Yeah I totally missed that in this video. I plan to make an updated video soon. Thank you 😊
The grey hexs come off too for cleaning the brushes.
I have a Roomba i7 and it works great, although I will say this to everyone: Don't follow iRobot's maintenance guide for cleaning! I have ours set to clean the downstairs which is approx 1,000 sq ft of mixed hard wood and carpet surface. I have 3 kids and a dog and I replace the Disposable bag and the filter monthly. Also, I clean the Roomba's wheels and rollers once a week for all the hair that get wrapped inside just like this video shows with one more exception. On the Green cleaning rollers, where the one end has the plastic caps/bearings, I have found out that you need to pop them off with a screwdriver and remove all the hair that collects from behind that part. If you spin that part on the roller while in your hand and it doesn't spin freely, then there is sure to be hair/debris gunked up behind that part. I also found many of the maintenance parts to be widely available on Amazon or eBay (filters and disposable bags) that will cost way less than if you were to buy one or two iRobot Maintenance kits.
From girls in the house🤣♥️lovely video!
Very neat so you have both the same setup downstairs and upstairs and Alexa will have them both go into cleaning mode?
Hello ! Nice video.
Is there any possibility to clean wheal module from long hair ?
Thank you.
Nice video. How do you know when to empty the bag in the main unit. thanks
The app will let you know, also If the red full bin indicator is illuminated or blinking, it means Roomba senses that the bin is full.
Question , i can’t put Back The dark green brush into Place ? Why ?
Take the whole wheel out there is gong to be hair underneath / Take the caps off the rollers take the hair out.
Thanks for you video. Your recommendation is to vacuum all the parts of the vacuum??? That is a complete nonsense... Lol
Ok 😂
Hi Mike. My Roomba is saying hardware problem detected! I’ve done all maintenance I know how to do. Any ideas?
really great video right here! thanks for this, you have two?! i want to buy 2 also but they are alot of money. i guess the time saved and extra clean carpets is worth it though
Yes, it is totally worth it. 😊
if you don't have a small vaccuum, can you use canned air to clean the Irobot?
That would work, just make sure you are outside when you do it because you will blow dust everywhere.
You can even use a shop vac or an upright vacuum with a hose attachment.
Can you wash the rubber brushes?
There is a sponge in the rubber brushes, so don’t submerge in water. I would recommend just wiping them clean. That’s how I do it. 😊
The dirt box is washable but not the filter I got this and a older type I’m a tight ass and don’t but original parts
How about the main wheels?
Yes at the time I made this video I forgot to mention that. That can easily be popped off with a flathead screwdriver.
@@MarchenaHomeTeam I'm talking about the ones connected to the main motor, When I checked Rommba's youtube channel I notice that they are both connected to a block. Do you have a video or steps how to disassemble both wheels for cleaning. Thx
Isn't it the i7 and j7 models that the dustbin can be hand washed?
yes
roomba j7 don’t remember the path no more ,do i need map again
do need reboot my roomba 7
i
I'm thinking, I'll just use the vacuum cleaner instead. ; )
Hola, my robot7+ doesn’t want to empty the bin? What can I do?
Mee too
The same problem
@@anuradhapuvvula1092 is so annoying because I bought it for that and it doesn’t work. So frustrated I don’t know what to do. I have tried everything
Utilizas una aspiradora para limpiar tu aspiradora jajajajajaja
The base station is the most important part to deep clean and you just gloss over it. There's puke and shit all in there.
