    Listening on my phone there is a fuzzy quality to the lows that isn't there on my real speakers.
    I'm still trying to find the right approach to minimize CZcams compression or cell phone speaker artifacts.
    Especially as most guitar videos on CZcams compress a lot, my videos can be much lower in level than those videos.
    Because I don't compress or EQ the mic on the amps. I want to to hear the good, the bad, and the ugly. And dynamics. Which means dirty sounds are louder than clean sounds. And if I hit the strings hard after playing softly, the level jumps up.
    I'm also asking you guys to hear dry overdriven sounds, which people aren't used to hearing in recordings.
    And in the studio engineers do compression/EQ tricks to make a sound be exciting at a 70dB playback level, when the actual sound was recorded at 100dB.
    Which can make my videos sound less exciting by comparison. But if you have a powerful full range playback system, turn it up. You'll almost hear the amp in the room.
    Doesn't work on phones or small computer speakers. ;)

    This 73 Champ series is incredibly educational and informative.

    Sounds better than any silver faced Champ I’ve heard. Great work.

    1 watt carbon composite also can be noisy in odd ways very good call. Grid stopper are used to stop oscillation in the rf range attaching the resistor as close to the tube socket is considered best practice method by every old EE book I have (about 30 of them ) . I find the video very good instruction . Separating a reconstruction artisan from repair guy .

    We live in a generation that’s never heard an electric guitar plugged straight into an amp!
    I recommend putting your pedals away for 1 month. Discover how to make it work without the pedals. Not saying abandon them. Just give it a try.

      Absolutely we all want to recreate our heros sounds with pedals.
      Most didnt exist when they were created.
      A good amp and great hands. And post production.
      Thats how most were done

    Lyle, the amp sounds great. I'm surprised you used carbon film resistors. The rage is all about carbon comp resistors, but you got the amp working properly, and you did what's best for the amp. Good stuff. 👍

    Can you make my 66 Vibro Champ sound this amazing? It’s had some work done, but it doesn’t quite have the same bite this one does. Fantastic work on this one.

    I been trying to ask a question about the original speaker....was it an oxford? Sorry i know its dumb but i cant seem to find out online or on my own model. Perhaps i dont know where to look.
    I really love how the final result turned out. Sounds wiked.
    Cool tshirt btw

    What happened to “taking more time for myself” on the weekends. ;) Not complaining, just poking the bear a little. Other than F1 racing, there is nothing better than some PA knowledge and a cup of coffee on a Sunday morning.

      I will in future. Playing catch up from last week's excursion, and had to get my daughter's car a new set of tires.

    There’s a tech who advocates cooling down the bias in Champs by swapping the 10K and 1K dropping resistors to reduce the screen voltage. He states that this is better than to increasing the cathode bias resistor which he claims can lead to unacceptably high screen currents under load. What do you think of this?

    • @PsionicAudio
      @PsionicAudio  Před 2 lety +1

      I think it's better to add an additional screen grid resistor and leave the rest of the circuit as-is. I suspect he also doesn't know how a Class A amp works.

    Sounds great, Lyle! Just curious have you noticed a certain coupling of these small amps where you simply place them on top of a cabinet or a larger combo, like in this video, that the apparent volume seems to double?

    • @PsionicAudio
      @PsionicAudio  Před 2 lety +1

      I think it's not coupling but rather just getting the little speaker closer to ear level. :)

    • @PsionicAudio
      @PsionicAudio  Před 2 lety +2

      Depends on the builder. It's a simple circuit, but I've seen some horror show kit build Champs...

    I love watching your channel. Just became a subscriber. I’m interested in looking for a Champ or a Vibro champ. Love them ! My question is(and I understand if you don’t want too) if I was to get one and it ended needing this amount of work, what am I looking at spending to make it right? Basic ballpark price. I know that these amps are quite expensive.

    • @PsionicAudio
      @PsionicAudio  Před 2 lety +2

      This one at my current labor rate comes to $350 before sales tax. That's labor, parts, and a new speaker. I need to get a new 6V6 and 12AX7 for it tomorrow (the ones in it now are from my test stash - the old RCAs are noisy). That will add another $40-50.
