I also love it when you combine modern instruments like guitars and bass guitars with ancient instruments as tagelharpa, raw drums, hornpipe, or even harp if you're getting really crazy. 😉 Metal and ancient stuff combine much better than anyone would know who hadn't listened to it yet. Go and look for "Herr Mannelig" by "In Extremo" if you like. You'll love it!

As a drummer I've always liked the Viking war music. But these two guys take it to a whole new level! Really digging their sound and intensity blending old and new together to come up with something really original and kick ass! Idea: If there are some traditional Viking songs that are around, how about re-recording them with the sprinkling of modern instruments like guitars and such? I bet that would be a good way to introduce this music to the world. It definitely needs more exposure because it's fresh compared to all the other metal out there right now.
