My Great Nana taught me all about the Queens of the Celts. I dressed as Boudicca one year for Halloween and she took one look at me and declared ‘Perfection’! The following year I dressed as Morrigan/The Phantom Queen. Complete with crows on my shoulders. Once again, my Great Nana was impressed. She said I’d chosen the two I most resembled but at the age, I thought she meant by looks. My life took me on a path that did indeed require me to be a warrior! She always knew. Boudicca was amazing!!
Wow...both you and your Nana are badass!!
@@jimr9499 She definitely was!!! I’m no pushover but doubt I could ever hit her level! 😂
I was looking forward to learning more about Boudicca. Instead we only got a brief overview of what she did, tucked between other history lessons. Sure, they were interesting, but they were not what the title suggested we would see when we clicked on the thumbnail.
Clickbait, I expected better from Absolute History 😢
Check out Lindsay Holiday! She did an amazing one like a day or two ago
Thanks for saving me some time.i guess a woman really needs to cover Boudicca and a man really can't seem to do her justice.
@@lilat1332 Thanks I'm going to that channel. I'm extremely disappointed with this🙄
Simon Whistler's Biographics did a nice bio on Boudicca
Can we have something actually about Boudicca next time? Mashing all this stuff together stinks and feels cheap.
I agree. The worst part is that all of these different things are deserving of their own videos, too. Feels like we're missing out on multiple things all at once under one click bait title.
nice that the title is about 5min of the 27min video
Too bad the title was click bait and there wasn’t much about Boudicca. The censored bit was pretty funny!
Why is there stuff about Australia here? I thought this was about Boudicca.
Ask the Queen about it, after all England still owns Australia and is still ruled by parliament.
I've always wanted to know more about Boudicca but as with so much of the knowledge from the past there are many different versions of her story and it's always hard to know which represents the closest version of the truth! Looking forward to watching this none-the-less, thank you :)
yeah i just watched the 'barbarians rising' series yesterday and all i want is more more more.
@@BeBopScraBoo i'll have to check that out it sounds awesome :)
So glad to see this sort of content!
Check out Manda Scott's Boudica 'Dreaming' series. First book is 'Dreaming the Eagle'.
The writing was drawn from her connection with the spirits of the people who lived during the Roman invasion.
It brings alive the Dreaming/warrior culture that we (British) had eighty generations, or twenty life spans ago.
Incredibly well researched, It's the definitive portrayal of the Boudica story.
The History channel uploaded a series about the fall of Rome and in it they had an episode about the conquest of the British Isles in which they featured Boudicca, it should still be up on their channel if you're looking for a more Celtic focused doc.
Misleading title, and a major missed opportunity. I like the videos setup, but the title focuses only on one of the awesome people mentioned in the video. Why not just title it, "Rabble-Rousers, The Legends That Stood Against Injustice." Rather than just focusing on someone who fought nearly 2000 years ago. Honestly, that's less relatable than more recent conflicts.
I think a more appropriate title for this video would be about the censorship in Australia, or really anything regarding Australia. Queen Boudicca only made an appearance for like 60 seconds I believe? Wondering if they just don't want foreign countries being in the titles of the videos, or drawing attention to the videos based on the negatives of British colonization
Tony Robinson's passion for History is infectious.
Technically, the first country in the western world was Sweden where some women could vote as early as 1719 (but not all so it isn't counted). Even more technical could free viking women vote at the things as far back as the 800s and likely earlier then that. New Zealand was the first modern land where all women could vote though, but the women in New Zealand was not the first women voting.
My country Finland gave women the right to vote in 1906..
@@NarnianLady Yeah, first in Europe to give all women the right to vote. I do have some recollection that women had a lot of say how villages were run in the pre Christian times in Finland as well (but don't expect me to spell any Fin pagan Gods or Goddesses).
It is pretty interesting that women's right to vote started far north and far south and the closer you come to the equator the longer it took (except Switzerland, 1971 is rather pathetic). I wonder why that is the case?
The Romans got exactly what they asked for when they did that to the queen and her daughters.
If only more tribes have stepped up and backed her the Roman presence in England would have ended much much sooner
Her story would make for a fascinating movie
There is one with Alex Kingston playing her. It's hard to find though. I have only found clips on CZcams.
*tap, tap, tap*
"Uh, surely you plan to have Boudicca? In your video of Boudicca?"
- Dr. Ian Malcolm, probably.
I came for Boudica but got served aboriginal women, horde shoes and street shenanigans.. wth??
Had a good laugh at the bleeping sounds for the protest chant
Hi Michelle 👋 how are you doing?
I agree with the other commenters, this is a good doc but I clicked because I wanted to lean more about Boudica, the title is really misleading
Read Manda Scott's Boudica 'Dreaming' series.
It is based on meticulous research and a connection with the spirits of the people who lived at that time, eighty generations/twenty life spans ago.
@@adampeters7947 supposed "connection with spirits" is not meticulous research... it's not even research at all.
@@WhyCZcamsWhy
The research I am referring to is, partly, historical (I.e. immersion in historical and archeological evidence) and, partly, drawn from the authors deep lived experience of shamanic/dreaming culture; and also war enactments of that period, living in a roundhouse etc...
I don't generally read fiction. But these books are special. I found them to be, very intense. This series is quite a ride.
But it's not possible to make a judgement without reading them.
Read M C Scott's 'Boudica' series. The definitive depiction (in my opinion!)

Manda Scott
I have a feeling videos on CZcams will now have misleading titles, and because there's no dislike button, newcomers won't know.
I wanted to hear about Queen Boudicca; I didn't expect --- nor did I want --- a bunch of Australian history.
Seems like the present Australian government is trying some old tactics again. Hang in there, brothers!
Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition!
@@scottdoesntmatter4409What do you mean by that? Spanish Inquisition?
Why did you put that title on if that was going to be less than half of the discussion in the video
I wish my history teachers were this enthusiastic about the subject when I was in school lol
Haha cool knew it must be about Boudicca. Thanks Faith and the Muse for first opening my eyes to this amazing woman!
Problem was, Boudica was naive in warfare. The Romans had greater military knowledge and also they had armour, and just better equipped in general for battle. She was an angry mother out for revenge, and who can blame her for that though. It seems emotions took precedent over logic.
Sorry Tony, this format is not good enough, the amount of time spent on each subject is way too short.
Welp this was a dope video lol good to know women like this existed in all races all over the world lol makes me feel warm and tingly lol
Ok, you need to work on your titles.
That was a brief mention of Boudicca….🤨
Sadly this video only gives a very brief outline about boudicca. It wanders around to various countries and other women.
Was expecting something about Boudicca, barely got anything... And we don't even know when and how she died! Poison is just a hypothesis.
I remember Cheap Tricks live album from het.
For another fascinating rebellion, look into the Battle of Sitka. The Kiksaadi clan of the Tlingets against the Imperial Russian navy. Ḵʼalyaan (Katlian)'s wooden Raven helmet and his famous blacksmith's hammer are actually in the local museum. The helmet is really cool looking
C'MON Tony.....This was a bit of clickbait wasn't it? I was led to believe the show was about Queen Boudicca
I feel like an ignorant American 😕 we're not taught about world history like this in public school. Fascinating!
Yeah well they don't really cover American history extensively around the world either.
Most countries only feel the need to teach you about the history of your own country and your own people
Plus there's so much history in this world one person could never hope to know it all that's why history majors pick a particular time and region to specialize in
@L M In school you are taught world history, with focus on individual regions and countries; but it's of course general. It's not like we don't learn about Europe, Africa, Asia and the Americas. Plus, in World History, extra focus is given to world events, especially ones that related or impacted the country (in this case America), like the World Wars, Cuban Missile crisis, ect. So that also takes up course time. Plus, people often forget things they learned in history class, especially if it's not something that's refrenced in the culture/media. Do people remember what they learned about Japan back in Highschool; they learned stuff, but it was general history, which they most likely didn't retain the basics of. So much content, so little time.
Tony Robinson is just the absolute best, man. His history documentaries are always top tier.
Really disappointed, very brief info on Boudicca, this heroic warrior woman.
Your turtles and thumbnails really need improving. I'm sure I'd watch so much more of I actually knew what they were about!! Also... I need to know what the chant was and I can't find it online anywhere lol!!
You guys might want to enunciate, more than once AD 43, is almost impossible to differentiate from 1843. Problem would be avoided if you said 43 AD like a normal person.
Modern historians, archeologists and scientists have set aside the B..C and A.D. Christian designation of eras a goodly time ago, with the universal understanding that the earth is not religious. It is now common usage to use B.C.E. 'Before the Common Era' and C.E. the 'Common Era' to designate general eras.
But is it the same dates as the Christian ones or does it "start" from another one? I always get confused because i know one way has "year 0" at like 1950, but I always forget if it's common era or a 3rd timeline.
Yes!
The code AbsoluteHistory is an invalid code. Either correct this or STOP FALSE promoting it.
Love her ❤️❤️❤️
Whats this, wanted to see Boudicca.
The censoring was fun for 4 seconds after that it was really onboxious with the cartoon Sounds. Skipped ahead
15:39 alas, this is no longer the case in the larger populace of Australia …they’ve capitulated with naught much more than a whimper
Where is the Hollywood blockbuster superhero movie about Boudicca?? What does a woman have to do to get her own movie? Raise an army of 100k? Burn London to the ground? Hmmm
@L M 😂😂
Who is going to stand up to the injustices happening now?
Is this... history done in the style of reality tv?
Before Europeans came to North America and destroyed the indigenous way of life many of tribes lived in a matriarchal societies. So saying that woman got the vote first in New Zealand, in actual fact indigenous women were the leaders here or at very least they had an equal say in their communities.
Who’s the lady moderator
I would like to believe myself a descendant of Boudicca. I admire her and feel like I can relate to her passion for justice.
Irish, by any chance? or Russian..Do u all remember the Moomba festival in Melbourne back in the 1960 ~70's ?...a real happening. Eureka ..well Ned Kelly and his gang were . although criminals are national heroes ....If gangs were allowed still . I'd join up with Ned.
This isn't a doc. about Boudicca. . .don't waste your time.

New Zealand first country in the world to give women the vote and the first country in the world to bypass women for trans women in the Olympics
Yeah, they should have just stuck with shagging sheep instead of trying the misguided "social experiments"... All you have to do is look at the candidates that women tend to vote for over the years (at least here in the US) and you'll realize that they never should have been allowed to vote...
@L M -- If you manage to live long enough, you'll find out... Until then, get off my lawn, dammit...
@@CurmudgeonExtraordinaire where is your lawn?
I have to laugh at the woman in the first part of this who claims to be aboriginal... She obviously has a lot more pasty white British genes in her heritage than she does aboriginal genes... A drop of aboriginal blood because one of your great-...great-grandfathers was not that picky 250 years ago and diddled one of the native girls does not make you aboriginal... What it does show though is that the genetic pairing of British and aboriginal genes is not particularly kind to the offspring, unlike what happens when you mix some other races...
