Poor Bilbo.. Throughout all of the adventures they had from the moment they left the Shire, he never shed a tear, despite missing his home and being out of his depth throughout much of the adventure. Even when he got separated from the others, he shed no tears out of fear or distress. He came through all of that without shedding one solitary tear for himself or his plight..but the moment that Thorin died in his arms, he finally broke down and wept, because he'd just lost a true friend and compatriot in Thorin, whom he'd thought an honorable and stalwart dwarf.
It just further proves that Bilbo was quite a small fellow in a wide world after all, and that despite the hardship of the adventure, his heart was never hardened, and remained soft and kind and gentle through it all, and you can hear it, feel it when Martin Freedman portrays that sadness and remorse and loss. Such a little fellow had come through such an arduous adventure, only to see several of his friends perish despite everything he'd done.
Brilliant acting on his part, and brilliant story-telling from Tolkien. This is why this story remains one of the greatest ever told.

The trilogy was a masterpiece.
The adventure of bilbo and his friendship with Thorin Ecu-De-Chêne and the others dwarfs from the beginning to the end was so touching with a lot of sacrifices and love , but Smaug scene wow !!! the Dipolmacy and the good behavior win the power of the Dragon, By the way sir Martin Freeman i saw the trilogy in French, cause i was sick when the hobbit appear on the Box-office and Theater, so i miss that wonderful trilogy on 3D, but now i can see it every day, Martin Freeman(Bilbo Sacquet) speaking French on The Hobbit is amazing : " En vérité les récits et les chansons minimisent grandement votre énormité Oh Smaug! Le Prodige! Première et principale des calanités." i love the way how you speak french on the trilogy.
Peter Jackson made a right choice to choose British actors like you and the others : Benedict , Richard ......etc, because they were a part of Story.
