MY FIRST DAY IN THE OPERATING ROOM AT A NEW HOSPITAL!
Bestie lol I got a new job on the new year and if you follow me on IG you'll know how I got the job! So basically the surgeon I've worked for many years was the chief of staff at this OR and he wanted me to come and work at this other hospital. I told him I don't have privileges at that hospital so he told me he will help me get there. Voila, I'm here! lol didn't even do an interview. Blessed AF!
This is my first day and I will make a video every week of my experience. Follow along as I navigate through the ups and downs of working in the operating room!
Goodluck future ST!

Congratulations on the new hospital. And it's always great to build strong connections with great people. Proud of you!
It's not what you know. It's who you know! Remember that. ✨️
Trust in yourself, and don't be afraid to ask for help when needed. You got this!
Thanks for sharing. This is really enjoyable to watch. I always wanted to work in healthcare and am learning a lot!
Excited to start my program this coming week! You're my inspo
I did my first closed reduction this week too! 😂😂 I was asking the tech so many questions before the doctor came in, buuuut she did tell me, they usually do general anesthesia when they can’t get the patients muscles to relax enough to get the bone back into place!
Hahahha I was shookt I'm like what do u meaaaaaannnnnnnn I don't need anything lol 😆 after that I was like lemme get more of them closed reductions 🤣🤣
This seems so exciting and exhausting you got this. Love this!
Haha both! I was just like bringggggggg itttt!
Congratulations on your new job. I love learning with you, I am visual learner I like it when you give more detail on your set ups or even pictures. Thanks
Don't worry I'll have more content coming up! 😌 it's just today was my first day and I was focused more on going through orientation. But I know exactly what you're looking for ❤️
Great video!!! I start Clinicals in April!!!
Goodluck girl!!! ❤️
Congratulations on the new job and a successful first day! I love watching your videos as a new grad 😊
Congrats to u too as a new grad!!!!! Did u get a job yet?!?!
@@SURGICALTECHGEEK thank you!!And yes I got hired on in the CV department 😆 I’m so excited to start
@@JadaFay congrats fellow cst!
@@xno-rc7lo Thanks!! I appreciate the warm welcome lol
@@JadaFay omg yas!!!!! R u in the heart team???
I just became a surgical tech! I start January 30th. I'm super nervous 😓 I just purchased your surgical guide pocket booklet! I need to brush up on my instruments before my first day. Love ❤ your videos!!!
Ahhh congratulations!!!! Yep I definitely would recommend brushing up on your instruments. I forgot to mention on this video that during my BVT case surgeon was asking for a vein retractor. I knew all the instruments in that vascular tray and I don't see anything! It turns out that my tray was messed up, it was missing that specific retractor lol. Here I am looking for something that wasnt there.
@@SURGICALTECHGEEK lol I’m very appreciative of you and your content. Very helpful ! Thank you 😊
I feel the struggle about getting a break! I have to eat breakfast at home before work. You never know when are you going to be able to get a break! Protein shakes and bars are such a lifesavers!
It's so badddd though. I don't think 30 min is enough to eat and digest. I get a lot of stomachache. Probably not good Long term. What do u eat before work? It's so early.
@@SURGICALTECHGEEKwell... Mostly is a sandwich, or a toast with jelly, or yogurt with chia and a fruit... It depends how hungry I am...
I take time while they are turning over the room to go eat a snack to avoid starvation until I get lunch...
30 minutes are so short... I just eat because is a necessity. I don't enjoy it... 😒
@@denissesarmi lol u don't enjoy eating?! Food is liferrrr
@@SURGICALTECHGEEK 😂😂😂😂 I enjoy eating food, not eating it fast!
@@denissesarmi lol uh I totally ate so fast
congratulations on the new job! I start my clinicals next week and I am SO nervous. Trying to prepare as much as I can beforehand 😅
Hey Courtney!!! I have a clinical preparedness video if u wanna check it out! I'm so excited for u!!!!
Vascular cases scare me as a new tech…dealing wit them little prolene needles I’ve almost lost a couple handing back and fourth wit the DR on the drape.
Hahah so my case, I told the doctor DO NOT LOSE my needles cause he can be reckless. So he hands them to me very carefully. They were 6-0 bv! Very tiny.
Ortho trauma is my gig! 😂
Is it tough to go back to school with this career? I'm asking because I know that taking call is part of the job. I'm genuinely interested in both ST and cardiac sonography. I would love to eventually do both. I plan to do ST first, save up and then go back to school for the cardiac sonography.
I went back to school 2 years into ST to get tmy bachelors so I can get into PA school
Nurse I love you .
Hi ! Do you have any advices on job interviews ?? I’m fresh out of school and I’ve had a couple of interviews with no luck. I don’t know if it’s because I don’t have the experience or if I just suck at interviews . Do you have any insight on what OR managers look for ? Thank you and good luck !!
I'm definitely gonna make a video about this!
I have less than two months in my program🎉❤
GOODLUCK!!!!
What state do you work in ? I’m in Cali and our labor laws protect us from missing breaks. I charge the company extra for missed lunches and breaks
It's not mandatory to give breakfast breaks in my state of Florida unfortunately
Do you ever plan to become a Surgical Assistant? I saw that you interviewed one on your channel
No I'm not. Schooling wants u to find ur own clinical site and I don't like that
Nurse your beautiful.
Hey girl! I hope you see my comment but do you prefer diploma associate or certification? I live in Georgia if it makes any difference. Looking to go back to school
Associates is better
Is it best to get a certificate or an associates degree for a surgical tech?
Associates
Once you stay past 3, Is It OT pay?
Yes!
Now that you started work at a new hospital, did your pay increase? When you go for a new position with experience are you able to ask how much you would like or how does that work?
I got what I wanted and a little negotiations on other things. It helps when you already know the people that works there cause it's all word of mouth.
@@SURGICALTECHGEEK Thank for your response. I start the program in August very excited very nervous but I'm ready.
It’s a steri drape? Right
Which one
@@SURGICALTECHGEEK the u-drape or was it the u film drape?
@@shayflo3678 the one i was looking for came with the pack I opened. I didn't know that their packs are custom made so everything was in there but then my u drape fell on the floor so I needed a sub. Couldn't find a paper U drape. It's shaped like a U so it can wrap around the arm. One is impervious plastic and the other is made of thick paper. Surgeon likes the paper but i told him I don't have it so we just used the plastic U and an extremity drape. Worked out just fine. Some surgeons are very specific with their drape system
😊😋what would you recommend for a 'quick snack' that would be considered sustaining?
I think liquid is faster absorption lol. I'd do granola bars, banana with peanut butter, yogurt with nuts.
Are you traveler?
Thought about it.
Adderall ideal?
No
I’m currently finishing up my prerequisites before I apply to the surgical tech program at my college and wow I have loved watching your channel! It motivates me to keep working hard and to keep studying. Just wanted to let you know that you inspire people like me who want are on the road to become surgical techs like you🤍
Awwww so happy for u!!!! Yes pass those pre reqs and focus all ur energy on core cause those make a dent on the exam and for clinicals, come back to me before u start so we can gear u up!!!! Keep going!
I’m a Sterile processor tech. I want to become an OR tech. I love watching you.
