Oh my good lord Mark.. Its truly* here.. Thank you so much for letting us be a part of your epic journey and thank you further more to shine such a light on the horus heresy. Thank you for your passion.
"Warrior kings of Ultramar, slaughtering innocents. All that remains is but ash...false angels." I love this line. It points out just how wrong the Emperor was to rebuke Lorgar in the way he did. The Emperor used Guilliman and the Ultramarines to shame the Word Bearers. He used the Ultramarines to slaughter Imperial citizens who had done nothing but do as they were told by Lorgar. He forced Lorgar and his Word Bearers to kneel, not just to himself, but to Guilliman and the Ultramarines. We've seen how this incident made the Ultramarines themselves feel. Many of them felt dirty and tainted by the act of razing Monarchia. Guilliman himself has said he wished the Emperor would have chosen someone else. In "Know No Fear" we can see how eager some of the Ultramarines were to make amends with their cousins. How happy Guilliman himself was at the chance to make amends with his brother. Think of Guilliman's words to Marius Gage on board the Macragge's Honor over Calth as Gage as for permission to return fire on the Word Bearers, "They are hurt." The Ultramarines almost seemed ashamed of themselves for their part in the humbling of the Seventeenth Legion. That's the saddest part, the Ultramarines did everything they could to make the muster at Calth go right, not just because of Legion efficiency, but because they desperately wanted to heal the rift between themselves and their cousins. It's why they felt so betrayed when the Word Bearers intent became clear. In the end, the Emperor had no one but himself to blame for Lorgar turning and by extension the Horus Heresy itself.
@@jgw9990 I think he used the Ultramarines because to the Emperor they were the image of an ideal legion. Cunning and brutal in both battle and diplomacy. Rational to a fault, and, perhaps most important to the Emperor, they followed orders to the letter. Many in the Ultramarine Legion would blow their own brains out if Guilliman or the Emperor ordered them to and they wouldn't think twice.
@@bigtreecombatacademy2927 Quite honestly the Emperor showing up and forcing Lorgar and the Word Bearers to kneel to him might have been enough. There was no reason to raze Monarchia and no reason to force the Word Bearers to kneel to the Ultramarines. And even if it was necessary. The Emperor could have used the Custodes. Guilliman and his Legion didn't have to be involved, but I would guess Big E wanted the strongest rebuke possible without killing Lorgar.
@@Hellhound23691 I remember reading somewhere he chose the Ultramarines because they and the Word Bearers were similar in that they could make for good governors. He saw the ultramarines as an ideal model for the word bearers to follow since their legions had the same sort of niche but went down the wrong path. That might have been speculation I read though.
Some might think “How could the traitor legions turn on the Emperor?” When I look at Monarchia and Nuceria I cannot help but think, “How could they not?”
Most of us think the first, Rusty. As HIS Angels of Death, it is unimaginable to give up your whole existence. Emperor has created THE Legion (you know, OUR Six Hosts) and only after that your puny, chaos-infested geneseeds kicked in. He is our father, a Real Godling who defies your False gods even in death. And do not forget: a Warrior's worth is measured in his ability to humiliate only. If you are incapable of it, you are not a warrior any more, just a soldier, a killer, a sword for hire, a bandit. Sorry, but to hurt anyone pride is not equal to turn against your whole existence...
@@ogrelaca Wounded pride? That glorified corpse let Lorgar continue on as he had for years. Then suddenly punishes him and his legion where a decree and a short discussion would do. Where was the point in that? It was not Pride that turned the Urizen from his father, it was betrayal, it was abandonment. As for Nuceria, this was more than just pride. This was the only thing Angron ever wanted. To fight, die and be at peace with his true family. But his false father denied him even the dignity of death. He took him away from his family, left them to die while he would live in agony for the rest of his days. Chained to another uncaring master, denied the freedom he craved only meant that his prison grew larger. Small wonder then, that these two would be the most eager to start the Heresy.

This war began under the ashes of Monarchia, humiliation was the greatest mistake of one who did not want to be venerated, and his lost sons found others to whom to devote their faith. Absolutely fantastic, Mark. All the drama of heresy is sweating from your work. It's glorious! I can't wait to see what happens next, I get chills.
We have come such a long way since Rogue Trader. Remember those daring black and white pictures and the bleak humoured fluff? Why indeed, we can still find it, but Warhammer 40,000 has grown to be so much more, an epic of war, men, übermenschen and gods, a reflection on history, civilization, evolution, religion and human nature, dantean and baroque in description, a magnifiscently functional cosmology beyond lovecrafian, an spiritual return to those forgotten and desperate wars for survival and supremacy before the rise of humanism. And what a madness of the soul, what revelation of our inner tribesman, brutal and visceral, you fight to kill, existance is bought as much with your blood as that of your enemies, might makes right, tradition and hierarchy is everything, as long, of course, as the ones above you are more and those below you are less, realpolitik devoid of all pretence, a machiavellianism on the scale of species and stars. And yet for all intents and purposes we see a sense of moralilty, impossible choices biased by an actively hostile universe, not the pretentious exposition of today's public demonstrations and parades, eager of fifteen minutes of fame and social media approval, but the desperate care of a wolf defending its cubs in a forest of terror, as Heinlein wrote, moral behaviour is survival behaviour above the individual level. I am eager to see what comes next, for this wondrous project, for the franchise, for the fanbase, either the drama, the tragedy or the comedy, all of it finds a place in the heart, we are so rich with so many stories told and yet to be born.
A good description of Warhammer with its brutality, mortality and dogma. I will go off topic with my comment now. Within the past year I have learnt the distorted truth of this world we are living in, from history to the evolution of humans. Science has turned into politics, it should be changed according to new revelations, discoveries made and mysteries of our Earth uncovered, they hide it for the sake of normality and the want for greed and poison our higher level of thinking through dangerous frequency attacks. It is extremely important for us to initiate a Global Non-Compliance Movement. It is our duty.
What I like the most was the beginning: those thousand of warriors, so glorious, in shinning armor. They seem so terrible and powerful. And yet, there is this overwhelming presence, the emperor of mankind is here anf they are just bowing before, a god, not in name but in power. This is what exactly I imagined for w40k and more. Perhaps more than the brillant graphic, I think your true talent is catching the atmosphere of this universe. Truly a mastrrpiece of art. You can be proud.

I feel the spacemarines need more vox distortion in their voices tho. The books do mention how their helmet makes them sound more harsh and robotic. That's my only critique, all the rest was great.
Mark Louis Spark - it's strange that nobody mention that one of the most amazing parts here is how Space Marines (especially on Monarchia) twitch. That's one of the parts of their connection with the black carapace and how they behave while still or in rage. Mark Luis - MAN YOU DESERVE TO BE HIRED BY GW TO MAKE YOUR OWN HORUS HERESY MOVIE, SCRIPTED BY AbnettWraight hybrid, voiceovered by Smillie and reconstructed by Anthony Reynolds (Purge novella hints) with ADB help! :) CONGRATULATIONS ON GODLIKE TRAILER. I CAN'T CAN'T WAIT TO WATCH AT LEAST A PROLOGUE :) Have a nice holidays! AND MASTERPIECE OF A CHRISTMAS ;)
I think the team he has already is good enough, the story arch line up is good enough. They just need the blessing and financial support of GW or at least be allowed to accept donations. And the reason the Word Bearers are twitching is due to the Emperor holding their whole legion to it's knees with his psychic sand blasting. lol
If I ever did this at a professional level, id no longer be doing this alone XD id get more artists on board. But for now, this is the project of my life.
@@marklouisspark I CAN'T WAIT TO GET IT IN FULL! I can promise you this - I would be waiting for 'Chapters' after a Prologue much much much more than I was waiting for the actual Horus Heresy novels (which ended as a slog with broken quality)

A fan-made Horus Heresy series with the Word Bearers as the focus/protagonists of the story? Dude, you have won me over in so many ways...keep up the amazing work!
Honestly when this got scrapped, that was the true death of hope. GW has yet to produce an animation that comes close to the atmosphere and scale this series could have given us. Truly a shame.
This is very well done. I love how stylized the Astartes armor is and the variety of weapons you have shown. My favorite part is definitely the helmets, the variety of styles is incredible!
the word bearers was one of the most diplomatic of legions, hence their slow progress and immense number of soldiers born from the adulations of the population they pacified leading to mass recruitment and the low amount of losses they suffered
Damn... Shit just hit the Fan in the background on 3:00 All those bolter fire sounding off into a raging storm within seconds. I'm imagining that the contingent of Ultramarines visiting the Word Bearers were being struck down all over the ship. Gave me the chills when I realized this might have been one of many key moments when the Horus Heresy really kicked off... Mark. Thank you and a Merry Christmas to you too!
Talent like this surely can't be natural. OK Mark - which of the Ruinous Powers did you sell your soul to for supernatural animation related powers? Tzeentch? It was Tzeentch wasn't it?
Proper way to do it is to make things relatable to the fandom that already knows the subject matter. Of course in hollywood there is no money in that XD but for us its perfect!
Bloody hell the voices of the Word Bearers are spot on! Have been reading The First Heretic when I watched this and suddenly realised I knew what was going on, absolutely stoked for this mate fair play
At 3:00 after the Word Bearer finished speaking you can faintly hear in the background gunfire reverberating throughout the other decks of the ship. Signaling the betrayal. I’m sure the ultramarines are receiving vox traffic of what is happening. “Kinsman, what have you done”. Sickeningly brilliant!
Absolutely amazing! You truly captured the dread of impending doom and shock of betrayal. You made me hate Kor Phaeron and Eidolon all the more for their weakness. Still, the Emperor failed his son. If only he had the wisdom and compassion to understand his faithful son's need for faith in a greater future. He should have invited Lorgar for private discussion, forgiveness and guidance instead of debasing him in front of his legion. One more horrible decision by the Emperor for which there can be no atonement.
This also shows how the emperor of man is just a man, and not the mighty god emperor of mankind, he makes mistakes like a man and yet was the most power human to ever exist Swear I’m not heretical, a wolf through and through
Shame you had to start over from scratch. All I can say, is that you need to take your time with it if that's the case. Also, as an Old Lore veteran, I know how you feel.
Yeah, the old stuff I know wasn't the best in terms of quality of characters. At the time i was trying to find the fastest way possible to pump it all out. But being in the industry I kinda need to have my work looking presentable to my peers as I hop around companies XD.

This stuff is beyond "big budget" quality, and even beyond "big budget that went artsy and became a film classic." Dude, your talent is so intense it's both world-widening and humbling at the same time. I have been mesmerised by your vision. 40K is cool shit, but I think you're a Prophet among artists. As a creative person, myself, you have my greatest respect. 🙏
Eh, I don't blame GW for any of that kinda stuff. They are a tabletop wargaming company and it's a medium they are not used to. Appreciate the support!

As people who work day to day, finding the necessities of life met with each minute spent earning our keep, we salute your endeavours. You are truly gifted and appreciated.
Absolutely stunning work man. The first was phenomenal, and yet you managed to up the quality even more from there. You captured the same power of that scene in the book, with the Word Bearers kneeling in the ashes of Monarchia, and just like when I read it, it brought tears to my eyes from that power. You are truly doing this saga justice with your work. I also just have to say that I loved the fact you made a point of having very distinct accents for both the Word Bearer and the Ultramarine; it sounded like what I would expect the ancient Babylonian tongue to sound like. Again, well done sir, very well done.
Mark Louis Spark hey what was the second scene from? I thought the word bearers first act of revenge was at Calth? Amazing btw, super excited to see the end product. You really captured the grim dark feel, it’s even terrifying at times.
I can't help liking your visual reference to Abnett's "Know No Fear". Specifically Sorot Chur and his Ultramarine cousin's stand off at the orbit of Calth. Like and share. No doubt
You sir, are surely a gift from the Emperor to all Warhammer 30k/40k fans! This trailer is absolutely stunning! It is amazing! My jaw dropped in reverent awe as I watched this. Holy Terra, the level of detail is sublime. The detail of the Word Bearers' power armor as they kneel in despair on Monarchia is astounding. One example is the fine detail of the gauntlet joints. I love that you even included heat haze near the exhaust ports of the power armor back packs. Thank you very, very much for your hard work to make and share this wonderful work of art with the public!
The First Heretic was the first 40k novel I ever read and will always be my favorite. Hearing Cyrene's words out loud brought tears to my eyes, for the betrayal dealt the Word Bearers by the False Emperor.
I know there's alot of great WH40k animations out there but for me your work Mark is head and shoulders above the rest. you show how the heresy started and by the emperor what an amazing job you have done. I have watched this one in particular its hard to believe it hasn't reached over 10 million views in my opinion. True to the lore, the most important part of the whole story in my opinion now immortalized in video. Thank you Mark, even if you decide never to do this sort of thing again this art will be timeless and your name legendary.

the similarities in the early word bearers and grey knights in term of visual aesthetic is fascinating; one wonders what could have happened had the emperor made a different decision in regards to the word bearers, if he had any.
0:45-1:48. That is so powerful. For those that don't realise. When Monarchia was burned, the Emperor himself came down to the planet and forced the entire Word Bearer legion present to kneel down. They are on their knees, struggling against the psychic might of the Emperor. The man they worship as a god, is angry with them, but at the same time demonstrating that he is far beyond a mere man. Something that most humans can only describe as being a god. That is where the light comes from. That is the Emperor his aura.
Makes himself taller than any primarch Gives himself golden armor, a flaming sword, and a bitchin claw Has an energy shield that they refer to as iron *halos* Can change his appearance using his psychic powers Rebuilds humanity from a dark age and forms an empire that lasts for 10 millennia "I am not a god" Do you think Big-E always smirked behind his blinding aura every time he says something like that?
@@Razgriz_01 I am more of the opinion that he was so far removed of baseline humanity that he did not fully realise just how godlike he might be perceived, even by the Primarch's. Only Magnus would probably understand, but he also showed major issues with coping with "lesser" humans or even trans humans. Doesn't change the fact that he is basically a demigod, if not a full blown one. After more than 10,000 years on the golden throne and all the worship, he probably is a chaos god in the making, ready to manifest with a cataclysmic event, or the exact reserve and taking the fight to the other chaos gods, seeing as humanity is feeding him immensely.
No reply is needed, but I had to say how awesome these trailers have been. Movie quality....there are major motion picture companies with hundreds of people putting out movies that are not a fraction as good as this is. Simply outstanding work and I cannot wait to see more!
Outstanding. The destruction of Monarchia. The humbling of the Word Bearers and the humiliation of Lorgar. The blinding light of the Emperor. That’s exactly how I pictured it the first time I read the story. You’ve captured the spirit of the 40k universe. I wish someone would write you a blank check to bring the lore to life like in the trailer. You’re effects and representation of Space Marines is spot on. Incredible attention to detail. The way they move is perfect. Not lumbering like some iterations. But quick and agile. Way quicker than any other creature of compatible size. And you got the human to Space Marine ratio down pat. Dialogue as well is perfection. Not over the top and hockey like some others creations. Outstanding all around.

AURELIAN! You're sending chills down my spine every time I hear this part. I can't believe you've put this part into live action, one of the most intense moments in the Horus Heresy.
Microzombie its odd that he didn't use Russ. Isn't that his purpose? Idk
Microzombie yeah I agree he didn’t want an execution, he wanted an example
It was a bad decision but sending Russ would have been worse
Some might think “How could the traitor legions turn on the Emperor?”
When I look at Monarchia and Nuceria I cannot help but think, “How could they not?”
Rustymcnut there was no choice, the emperor is the greatest threat to humanity. Doesn't mean they should join chaos either though.
Also Prospero...poor Magnus
Edit: though that wasnt the Emperor's fault but Magnus dosent know that.
@@ogrelaca
Wounded pride?

@@collinfulling3223 that movie is so heretical, that even we heretics go "nope".

For someone who destroys non-compliant worlds every day, Lorgar was too moved by the razing of Monarchia. The place was not even Colchis.

Faith is important, atheism should have no place in this world. This comment is off topic, I am aware.
This also shows how the emperor of man is just a man, and not the mighty god emperor of mankind, he makes mistakes like a man and yet was the most power human to ever exist

Tim Pedersen who recruited the VA's actually ran this by me that certain people worked for certain roles so credit to him on this :D

the similarities in the early word bearers and grey knights in term of visual aesthetic is fascinating; one wonders what could have happened had the emperor made a different decision in regards to the word bearers, if he had any.
Makes himself taller than any primarch
Gives himself golden armor, a flaming sword, and a bitchin claw
Has an energy shield that they refer to as iron *halos*
Can change his appearance using his psychic powers
Rebuilds humanity from a dark age and forms an empire that lasts for 10 millennia
"I am not a god"
Do you think Big-E always smirked behind his blinding aura every time he says something like that?
