It's not software development, it's software engineering. Would you put your wife and kids on a plane or in a car that was engineered by a bunch of engineers that never stopped to consider the security and safety of the car/plane they engineered? Then why engineer software products without thinking about security and safety in their engineering, especially given as pervasive and important software is in all of our lives today.
