- Myelodysplastic syndrome is sometimes referred to as “pre-leukemia” or a condition that occurs before leukemia (although most patients will never develop leukemia). In myelodysplastic syndrome, the gene mutation preventing the maturation of the blast cell is present, however the second gene mutation leading to uncontrolled cell replication is absent. Learn how health professionals look at blood test results and bone marrow aspirates to diagnosis this disease. Created by Nauroz Syed.

You are a fantastic teacher! The repetition enough in order to be sure notes could be taken, and that we do understand it well enough is wonderful. Can learn so much from you, Thank you!
much more straightforward to understand MDS with this video, thank you~
Thank you for this video. I can share it with my friends and family to help them understand the disease.
This happened to my father MDS transformed into AML within 7 months and he passed very quickly. I have found through genetic testing that I carry a rare variant in SMARCA2 which I have passed onto my children
Is there another video that discusses the risk factors, signs and symptoms, as well as the treatments?
Wonderfully explained. thanks
perfect explanation (y) . thank you
I've tried to differentiate between MDS and leukemia and now after ur video i can understand better than be4 thank u very much :)
This video is really helpful, especially for clinicians.

Thank u very much

Love that voice and presentation. Do you have any other video presentations?
"All you need is another mutation" loooool ;))) thank you for this mini-lecture! Very helpful!!!
Well I have MDS and LOL is not how I think about a second mutation - -anyway.
Can this also happen with lymphoblastic cells.
thank's
Wow just found out I have mds smh great break down of wat it is thx
I was just diagnosed with this and I'm 25
John Johnson شفاك الله وعفاك
John Johnson I think now it's cured
😘 i watching your video bcj your such a beautiful voice😘🌝
THANK U VERY MUCH,I COULDN'T MAKE IT BY MYSELF.
If you donate blood and have an uncle who died from this, would it show up in the tests for donation?
No. The only way to know you have it for sure is through a bone marrow biopsy. Red flags are in a CBC when your numbers are lower than normal. All you can do is ask your dr to watch for decreases in your numbers. Even if they still fall within normal range.
very good explanation, I only have one gripe. While I understand this video audience are not patients, it is still on You tube and patients, new patients such as myself don't want to hear that AML is not that much of a problem because the patients with MDS die off long before they get the chance.
I was so deeply into the professionalism and then that smacked me in the face. I was just diagnosed 9 hours ago and that was not really what I needed to hear. Maybe a little more editing is in order? or redo the way it is worded. its good info, even good news that the switch to AML is so low, but it could be put a different way? This is CZcams after all.
I believe she meant that patients with MDS reach old age and pass away, before their DNA aquires a mutation which then causes AML.
she says " most MDS patients will die before their abnormal blast cells reach Acute leukemia" .....so whats the cause of death of most MDS patients?
TURK NUKEM most likely infection or bleeding
Cytopenia, low Red cell causes anemia, Low WBC can cause opportunistic infections and low platelet causes bleeding disorders. Not to mention Dysplasia which is an abnormality of the cells, leading the impaired function.
Pancytopenic manifestations: 1.low platelets- easy bleeding/hemorrhaging and coagulation problems, 2.less mature, functioning white blood cells- opportunistic infections or superinfections and 3.low mature, well developed red blood cells- anemia, which has its own correlated symptoms and signs.
I have a very low white blood cell count. I am likely to die of an infection.
thanks for the reply. My dad had leukemia with low platelet counts. Thats why i was asking.
I hope everyone gets well who is dealing with this sickness.
My dad was 51 and died recently from MDS 😢
sad life
Omg my dad also died too and the same age
@@sabrinasuarez220
My dad also suffering from MDS
his age 60
Is it possible to cure
Please suggest me
Well I don’t want to scare you but there is not a cure for it my father struggle with a long with his blood it wouldn’t last for long but at the end my father had leukemia my question for you is how long has your father been suffering from mds
J k but it really just depends if they found it on time too I saw another comment that someone has been 11 years without it but for my dad he didn’t survive and he gave up and ended having leukemia
My mother has MDS problem with severe Thrombocytopenia. I want to share her reports with you to help me. Please share your email I'd.
not good explaining
very good
