  • In this video, we're going to take a look at how to build the ultimate urban EDC kit using a slightly larger than Altoids tin measuring 3” x 4.5” x 0.9”. With its compact size and durable construction, this tin is the perfect platform for building a kit that can help you in a variety of situations.
We'll start by taking a look at the different types of tools and equipment that are essential for an urban EDC kit, including a multi-tool, a flashlight, and a small first aid kit. We'll also discuss the importance of having items like a lighter, a pen, and a small amount of cash on hand.
Once we've identified the key items to include in our kit, we'll walk you through the process of selecting the right items and packing them into the tin. We'll share some tips and tricks for maximizing space and minimizing weight, so you can create a kit that's easy to carry and always at the ready.
Whether you're navigating the streets of a busy city or just looking for a compact and convenient EDC kit to take with you on your travels, this video will give you all the information you need to build the ultimate urban EDC kit using a pocketable tin. So grab your tin and let's get started!

Your kit is really lovely. It's nice to see others keeping kits just for their own personal uses. not necessarily to try and survive off it for a day or longer, but just to have things handy.
I also really like that some things are in there just because you like them, like the mini knife. Sometimes you just need something to have it.

Confession: I bought the mini light because it was so darn cute and hung it on my purse with a cute little charm. Then, last night my husband dropped something near the car in the dark, and before he could figure out how to turn on his cell phone light, I had my mini on and we found what he lost. 🎉 I’m making all three of my sons similar versions of your “dad kit” for Christmas! Thanks for a great video!

Marcus, over the last weekend I decided, after watching a lot of EDC videos, that I was going to make my own EDC. Apart from anything else it seemed like fun. But I wanted to make the bits and pieces myself. I didn't want to buy very much or order anything from Amazon. I'm a South African State State Pensioner on a limited budget. So I did. And because I'm female there's an emphasis on toiletries. I had a good start - I have a much-loved Victorinox Pioneer that I've had for 35 years. And to keep it all together I dug out a bright red fabric make-up bag, long, with two clear-plastic fronted, zip-up containers and pencil holders between them. When I was finished I had over 80 items in it - all seriously miniaturised. A tiny little towel wrapped around the finished product and held in place with two elastic bands and I was done. I dropped the finished product into my handbag along with my wallet and smiled a little wryly, wondering if I would ever have occasion to use it. 24 hours later I found myself overnighting in our local hospital... I was able to clean my teeth, comb my hair, clean my teeth and even apply a lick of lipstick. And I didn't die. I was sure I would... But I used that EDC for the first time LESS THAN 24 HOURS AFTER I PUT IT ALL TOGETHER!

So glad you’re doing well and hope you have a speedy recovery. That’s the thing about EDC, you don’t really know what you’re missing out on until you have it. For me it was a pocket flashlight. I always used my phone light before, but once I tried a pocket light I was sold and now use it 10 times a day. Glad you’re having fun with your EDC and hello in South Africa. I met my wife in Cape Town and have very fond memories.

i love how this is all very practical. I love how you aren't trying to make a survival kit or trying to act like it is one. Some guys you see always act like they could live off of it. The tweezers are great and one of the only reason I would carry a victornox in addition to the toothpick. The magnets though really sells me as I hate when things jingle in my pocket.

I've actually put a regular BIC-lighter in my kit, it never fails, you don't have to worry about keeping it dry and it's cheap as chips. I do appreciate all the creative ways people make matches work in this context, but at least for me, a lighter is a great choice. If you are building a more survival-based kit, remember that the flint of the lighter can be used without gas if needs be.

I love this kit and that it's practical and every-day 'normal life' usable. My girlfriend and I both wear glasses so my kit includes a few things so I can repair glasses enough in most situations to be usable until we can get to spares. Most notably a tiny, double-ended screwdriver that I pulled out of a cheap glasses repair kit, as well as some extra screws. The screwdriver is slightly smaller than the closed size of the telescoping pen. I also have stuff like the single use super glue and gaffer's tape.

@@MarcusCreates You might want to think about using a thin sheet magnet like they use on a magnetic business card and cut it to fit the bottom of the tin. Also, those real magnets you have glued to the one tin, if you put a needle in your kit, if you stroke it with the magnet and float a piece of paper on some still water, put the pin on it , it will make a compass.

I love your realism with the edc kits. I've seen guys on CZcams talk about I can survive overnight with this tin....Ok what about the next day. A survival kit needs to have food water shelter and fire capabilities for long term cause you don't know how long it will be before you can be rescued or self rescue. The practicality you display with your videos and I hope this don't offend you but your super friendly Robin Williams like voice makes your videos top notch.

    Nice little kit!
It looks like you could easily fit a little pack of steri-strips in your band-aid / sticking plaster area. They are useful for longer cuts to hold the edges together. You can substitute by cutting some plasters lengthwise but I think it would be much easier to pop one package in there. You’d put a bandage over the wound after you close it with steri-strips.

2:23 you may want to separate the band-aids from the cash. while they are good items plus they are thin, you may want some plastic between them to not let them contaminate. i ve got some sleeves from playing cards and they are thin as well.

I think this is great if your goal is to see what you can fit in an altoid tin. it clearly works for you and you did a good job designing it for your needs and the video is great. but personally I feel like it’s better just to carry tools separately in your pockets. for one, you can carry larger tools (not big, but not mini either) such as a proper 3-4 inch pocket knife if in the USA, a larger flashlight like a streamlight microstream, a little notebook to go with your pen, and so on. second, you can get out each tool very quickly and with one hand, which is a really good feature of an EDC. if I’m walking my dog, I only have one hand to reach for tools.
but I see the advantages. better organized, better protected, harder to lose specific items if they’re in a box, plus it’s just fun playing tetris with cool little gadgets. to each their own!
