It's nice that the dwarves were considerate and didn't break anything, and actually cleaned up after themselves
Yesss
What about all the food they ate?
@@taterblaze9584 They were about to leave for an incredibly long journey - with little to no idea how long the trip would take. Months? Years? Would they even all return? Any food that Bilbo left behind would likely have spoiled long before he got home to eat it.
I don't recall if it mentions it explicitly in the book, I haven't read my copy in 25 years, but i remember always thinking it was a perfectly logical and reasonable thing to do. That, and it being a morale boost for the dwarves who at least had some idea of the dangers that lay before them.
@@eddyblackmore4188 Alright fair enough.
Great song
I love how everyone's like "oh Thorins here. Funs over."
"Now we can only sing about depressed mountains. You know how he gets."
Beast: "When I enter the room, laughter dies."
Yeah cause he's the only Dwarf that actually takes things seriously
@@ZLSM in the books he was there singing with them. They changed so much in the movies
@@styx9162 yeah. Thorin was pretty chill, well, some of the time anyway
I just love this scene, especially the way the eldest two there, Balin and Gandalf, just accept it's going to happen and casually play their part.
And the one playing the teapot.
Teapot Player would be Oin
"what instrument do u play?"
"teapot"
Same, Balin makes this scene for me. You can see his eyes rolling like "ugh, again with all of this" and just keeps it all moving haha
Balin: I can't take these kids anywhere
Same. Like, legitimately one of the best parts of this movie.
I love how they’re singing about wrecking his house AS they are cleaning his dishes. Bilbo has enough anxiety already
Así que me gusta ver las películas de El señor de los Anillos pero me gusta ver la de El hobbit.
The dwarves casually show a remarkable level of dexterity, in addition to teamwork and trust. I think it's Fili that hurls a fork at Bifurs head, who spins and catches it.
It's Kili who hurls a fork. Fili is the one who catches plates from Balin
It ain't the first thing that's been thrown at Bifurs face
I LOVE how Balin is just casually flipping plates haha and Ori is just too adorable.
Stacey Elizabeth Wilson best part of the whole scene
Ori is too wholesome.
i actually have a dwarf in D&D 5e that is similar to Balin in many ways
in fact he would be Balin in this particular scenerio
Im gonna be the depressed ine right here
Both of them died in moria and gimli cried their deaths :,(
I honestly love that Balin’s face is screaming “ here we go again “.
This whole scene is one I'm confident Tolkien himself would have enjoyed. It stayed pretty true to the book. A few minor changes, yes, but still very faithful to his work.
I feel like he would've enjoy all the movies, but who's the say for sure
@@themeddite2935He wouldn't have enjoyed the necromancer fight with galadriel and he wouldn't have enjoyed the removal of Glorfindel ( elf lord who saved frodo) from the story.
@@themeddite2935he would have hated the original trilogy. He’s on record of saying he wouldn’t want the movies to be these big giant films focused on big set pieces
@@mr.misanthrope1991Yeah he literally said that an adaption could just cut out Helm's Deep entirely and what do they do? They focus the entire second film of the trilogy around Helm's Deep.
And then when Bilbo goes and opens the door, Thorin stands there staring..
Thorin: That's.....
ans then he breaks up a final solo
Thorin: ~ WHAT BILBO BAGGINS HATES! ~
Graverobber94 Lol that would be funny
@@Kevin.Joseph.Letufuga Yes, youtube likes to fool people like that sometimes. One thinks "oh, theres more of the comment", but then there isnt.
I remember this part from the book. "Of course, they did none of these dreadful things."
I was actually wondering if the song was what was actually happening (the uninvited entry of them sorta already had me with a bad impression of them)
@@reeck771 they weren’t uninvited since Gandalf did invite them
I remember reading this in high school. Never remembered this part(was not particularly interested at the time may I add) after reading this again I'm actually almost done with the twin towers.
It also left out "so careful careful with the plates!" Showing that the dwarves care about Bilbo's possessions.
@@taillesswolf I read it and middle school and loved it but you said the twin towers 💀
"Excuse me, I'm sorry to interrupt, but what should I do with my plate?" Haha :D
Laura Alsbæk "give it here ori"
I found it extremely adorable
Relatable
Like despite being orrible guests as far as food manners go, they are otherwise very polite
Here ori givd it to me
“Oooohh, you hear that lads, he says we’ll blunt the kniiiivvees”
The best part!
you right
What makes that line really funny is that dwarves are very well known in Tolkien's universe for being master craftsman, to where they'd probably make all his utensils better.
Blunt the knifes bend your forks!!
I love how concerned Bilbo is with his China and Silverware, especially considering all of the dwarves there are craftsmen and know EXACTLY what they’re doing, how to do it and what they’re doing it to so it causes the least amount of damage and the most stress
and one of them dwarves is indeed a toymaker.
A moment of fun in a movie that takes the characters To the darkest places, they still have a song in their heart
Now the real question is did Thorin arrive at exactly the right time or did he hear them doing their little musical number from outside and decided to let them finish before knocking 😂
Most likely both
You could hear these boys singing from the other side of the Shire. Thorin absolutely waited until they were finished.
These dwarves must have all maxed out their dexterity rolls lol.
OroborusFMA yes they did.
Not just that even performance.
Gimli's quote comes to mind whenever I watch this. "Soon Master Elf, you will experience the fabled hospitality of the Dwarves! Roaring fires, malt beer, red meat off the bone!" Sounds like a time I wouldn't miss.
Of course! Sure the Elves are fare and wise, but let's face it, who wouldn't want to hang out with the Dwarves?
@@nils920I like to head cannon that both like to hang around men as well
@@theenderdestruction2362 they pretty much likes to hang around men , as in Legendarium , Men are basically the little brother of the trio.
@@phantasosxgames8488 yep but unlike most little siblings they barley get any help from the adults and if something goes wrong it's their fault pretty much but hey papa eru likes them the most so they get special treatment from him
@@theenderdestruction2362 I think the elves , dwarves and men had proper treatment to each. The whole "Arda Marred" is more due to the Valar than anything else.
It's clear that the Valar should had just teached the elves and men in Middle-Earth , rather than just bringing a few elves and let Men on their own for their taking.
If me & my mates tried doing that with my mother's fine crockery, it'd be our heads that go flying
LOL that made me laugh
paul stewart lol so true
Lol Same :P
I think I'm too late but...
*this is how a game of golf was made*
that's how the game of golf was invented
Part of me wants to believe that this is a song which they'd always sang after a feast at someone else's home and it just so happens that it worked out so well when Bilbo said you'll blunt the knives. Like it was like they'd been waiting to hear that.
P.s. in the other versions theyd sing "that's what our dear friend here hates" it just again, worked out that "that's what Bilbo baggins hates" works :P
That works out perfectly, I love this headcanon. Like when Bofur says "Do you hear that lads? He says we'll >blunt the knives
HEADCANON ACCEPTED
I've seen one fanfic where the usual version is "that's what my old mother hates".
I subscribe to this
Ok, lads, this is canon now.
-The Dwarves were skilled craftsmen, they have knowledge enough not to damage any of the dishes or silverware while tossing them around.
-This song in is basically the “Clean Up” song of Dwarves for doing the dishes after dinner.
-As another commenter pointed out, it seems as though they sing and do this regularly at friend’s houses and in other versions sing, “That’s what our dear friend here hates.” They’re incredibly well rehearsed, though I suppose you could believe they made it up on the spot.
- This scene not only teaches Bilbo about Dwarven culture, but the audience as well. Gandalf in particular seems fond of other cultures with his adoration for Hobbits, support for Men, respect for the Elves, and enjoying the rustic and merry company of Dwarves
- I love this scene!
lol
I'd like to think they make a list of every complaint a work foreman makes and put it to song during cleanup.
@@beastwarsFTW absolutely!
I love watching Fili run around catching Balin’s dishes in the background at 1:02!
you're the comment I've been looking for lol
I've decided that when I have children, after family dinner this is how we'll do the dishes. It will be both a family bonding time as well as entertainment for any guests, haha
Haha, it's all fun and games until Thorin arrives.
1:05 That Smile Of Gandalf
i actually liked that they all were hidden jokesters... it showed how close they were to eachother... and Gandalf at the end.. like a proud dad taking care of his helpful but over energetic kids...
I love the fact that Thorin actually bangs on the door, instead of using the bell! :D
1:02 Balin in his mind: I'm too old for this.
edit: I put dwalin instead of balin.
Oohh yeh hear that Lads. He says we'll blunt the knives😂😂
Blunt the knives bend the forks
1:02 life and soul he is
Kili is the one who starts the plate tossing, and sings "Blunt the knives and bend the forks."
This scene in the movie got me kicking my legs like a small child. So much happy... one of my favorite scenes in the book and something I definitely didn't expect to see in the film. Such a happy surprise. ^_^
This is the kind of thing I need in my depressing life to lighten it up, I need an “adventure” and a house party with lots of dwarves, and I don’t mean people with dwarfism, I’m talking about REAL dwarves
What do you got against people with dwarfism?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
"Excuse me, I'm sorry to interrupt.. but what should I do with my plate?" made me LOL in theaters xD
I love how they added this song to return to moria, usually sung by a dwarf when drinking alcohol. Makes sense too as bilbo is no doubt quite a hero to the dwarves.
Everytime I see this, I wonder if JRR Tolkien would smile watching this
now I love this thought, he would like it so much
Blunt the knives bend the forks!
Smash the bottles and burn the corks!
Chip the glasses and crack the plates!
That's what Bilbo Baggins hates -
Cut the cloth tread on the fat!
Leave the bones on the bedroom mat!
Pour the milk on the pantry floor!
Splash the wine on every door!
Dump the crocks in a boiling bowl;
Pound them up with a thumping pole;
And when you've finished, if they are whole,
Send them down the hall to roll!
That's what Bilbo Baggins hates!
So carefully, carefully, with the plates!
Theres a little of disorder in this versión, but is funny and hilarious :D
Can we just apreciate Balin's face? 1:02 "Im too old for this shit"
I love songs like this, there so refreshing, they really does take you back to those old times.
It's also why I love period movies or fantasy like this. That and Far over the misty mountain a good song that tells a story.
This never fails to cheer me up! And I love how Balin looks like a grandpa indulgin his overexcited, sugar-fueled grandchildren in their games XD
I love all the dwarves but Ori is up there at the top. So polite and adorable at the same time lol
if I did that with my grandma's plates.... I'd be the one flying into the doors of a foster home 😂😂
Martin freeman makes the most adorable bilbo! I love this movie!
Kili and Fili! ❤️❤️❤️
Kitty Purplexo too bad they got rekt
Same
Yeah, they were my favorites. Boy, their deaths hit hard....
Haha Ori is always polite :D
This movie is sooo good!
Am I the only one who noticed that Dwalin's holding a little violin. LOL It's legit
Dwarfs are often portrayed as rough people.
They're crafts people, the value crafted items.
And that's really seen in this clip.
And what's the most amazing thing is the fact that they're gentle enough to not damage the items AT ALL.
That's how impressive of a gentle touch the have for crafted items.
Celemir, you don't understand the song and its context, do you? They are singing like they are going to trash his plates and all that, but they were only giving Bilbo a hard time. It is revealed to Bilbo (and to us) that they cleaned up themselves at the end of the song. They are trying to put a thicker skin on Bilbo for the adventure, and to make a good impression by cleaning up his entire house, even the food since you don't want food to spoil while on the journey. Now you know.
When bofur says will blunt the knives he basically saying blunt the knives🤣😂😂😂
Ori is so awesome, and so is Kili, and Fili... ok, ALL the Dwarves are AMAZING! Especially those three and Bofur! :D
I love that their singing and cleaning, it just looks very chaotic lol
I love this scene
It was this scene that made me fall in love with The Hobbit.
I love the fact that they cast Ian McKellen as Gandalf again! I liked him as Gandalf in the Lord of the Rings movies.
Who exactly did you expect them to cast?
I had a serious fangirl moment when they started singing in the theater! And this was the scene where I fell in love with sweet little Ori! xD
Dwarves have a magic aura around them that makes everything magical.. not magic itself just a way of bending reality with whimsy
"Oh did you hear that lads?, he says we`ll blunt the knives.." theyre Slagging Bilbo since Dwarves are Smith Experts 😂
Mom: "Do your chores or no Video games"
Me and the Boys:
I've always loved this whole song, very faithful to the novel I also find it hilarious when Bofurs goes 'Ya hear that lads!'
0:55 Bifur: "Dammit, stop throwing stuff at my head! Do you remember what happened last time!?"
You meant Bifur: (Dwarvish)
lol Oh man. Poor Bilbo, but at the same time, love the song! And when Thorin knocks on the door at the end, everything just goes quiet.
gotta love Gandalf's laugh when he's smoking the pipe!
In the books the songs come up apropo of nothing because it is a fun, light fantasy book that doesn't really need an explanation why they all knew the same song or else made one up on the spot, but I liked in this movie that it sounded like a normal tavern song that you could switch out the owner of whatever bar you were in for "Baggins".
Everyone gangsta til Thorin turns up.
Song absolutely slaps
After a full on decade and a few years this movie still never ceases to be one of my most favorites, it still has that same feeling like it just came out of theaters because of how realistic it looks
I need these guys to clean up after my family's Christmas dinner.
Blunt the knives and bend the forks
Smash the bottles and burn the corks
Chip the glasses and crack the plates
That's what Bilbo Baggins hates
Cut the cloth and trail the fat
Leave the bones on the bedroom mat
Pour the milk on the pantry floor
Splash the wine on every door
Dump the crocks in a boiling bowl
Pound them up with a thumping pole
And when you've finished, if they are whole
Send them down the hall to roll
That's what Bilbo Baggins hates
I just realized most of these rhyme
I just about snorted my soda when this scene started and went through it. Bilbo looks like he's about to have a heart attack when they start the routine XD
i loved the movie version of this song as moch as i loved it in the book! :)
Same.
Yeah, that's what he saw from his older brother, Dori, who always keeps an eye one him.
However my favourite dwarf is Bofur! He is a friendly one, with a great sense of humor and he was the one, who kept Bilbo, when he wanted to leave.
Been playing this on repeat for 20 minutes. XD
The thing is, though, Peter Jackson and the other writers did some amazing work on this movie, and added so much stuff so that it leads up to the Lord of the Rings.
I love how bilbo comes in after like "oh their organized"
Out of all the shortcomings of the Peter Jackson Hobbit trilogy, there were some shining moments, though few and far between.
Did…did Gandalf blow a smoke ring for the dwarfs to throw the dishes through!? 😂
I never noticed that before.
Now THIS is what you call a cleaning crew. Coordinated, fast, with precision. On the downside, you may end up with some blunted knives and bent forks, perhaps some broken china but they get the job down. XD
Troublesome adorable lot! I want a couple of them instead of the dishwasher!
I'm ready to sacrifice some crockery!
Black Elleboro on my way!
Bombur is the most useful because he can clean up the leftovers.
Tbh if I was in bilbo's place I'd be amazed and enjoy the song.😉
A) i like how Kili was just casually walking past then Fili is just like CATCH and throws a plate at his brother
B) KILI IS ADORABLE AND HES MINE
C) "excuse me, im sorry to interrupt, but what should I do with my plate" (PRO TIP, CONTINUE THE SONG)
D) DID I MENTION THAT KILI IS MINE.
One of my greatest wishes since childhood has been to be part of their company...ah man I wish
Oooooh, do you hear that, lads? He says we'll blunt the knives!
Such simple fun that people need more of in these dreary technology obsessed times.
Spending time with loved ones at a table, singing fun songs, snuggling beside a real fire and telling stories. Such simple things is all man really needs
0:54- Balin's at the table, flippin' plates.
1:00- Balin's in the back, sweeping.
1:02- Balins back at the table.
I love seeing Gandalf laughing at them😂❤️
Judging by the dwarves' reaction at 1:20, it seems like they're really scared of Thorin or something... xD
He's the King Under The Mountain, in a world where nobility has actual significance and potency. Thranduil (king of the wood elves), Aragorn, Theoden, all have significant effects on their people and kingdom as well. Galadriel and Elrond are on a whole other level, of course, due to bearing two of the three Elven rings of power (the other one having been given by Cirdan (it's original owner) to Gandalf).
Love this rendition of the 1977 film.
My little brother is coming home soon and it's gonna be his birthday. Us and our friends will be singing this around the campfire.
haha funny :D Those Dwarfs are very Funny and Friendly.
One of my favorite scenes on the movie. It just makes me so happy (':
Love it love it love it! One of the best scenes I've ever seen in my 30 years of my life. So lively, atmospheric, warm and fun... Thanks PJ!
This is one of the best movies I have seen.
I like how responsible the dwarves are after messing up. They actually clean up and properly fixes all the things after using them.
love how when they leave the place is just as tidy and clean as they found it hehe so considerate the company of Thorin Oakenshield
Wonderful way of showing how good dwarves are at cooperation with eachother x)
Ori is so cute. I just want to hug him.
Does anyone find it strange that my sister and I immediately went silent when we heard three knocks?
XD
At least it wasn’t “FOUR” knocks………
@@Howyaduing nice
I could listen to this band all day
Hobbit is a masterpiece !
As rambunctious as Dwarven company can be, at least they clean up.
The dwarves threw the dished and bowls casually without broke any implies that they had already knew each other and cooperate with each other too well. It also shows how much they had been through in their tough and sad past.
considering they are all relatives, yeah they'd know each other well enough
YAAAAAYYYYY!!!!!!!!!! I LOVE THIS SCENE!!!!!!!!
Yes. Kili is the youngest out of all of the dwarves. They had to make him look like he was the youngest, because he is in the book. Hence why he has more of a stubble than an actual beard. If I were to invite a few dwarves to dinner, they would have to be Bofur, Fili, and Kili if you're up for some really SUPERB laughs!LOL Which is one of the reasons I think this song is so HYSTERICAL!!!!LOL "That's What Bilbo Baggins Hates!" LOL
