HBO Max's VELMA is apparently based off the Scooby-Doo franchise, but you wouldn't know that from watching it. From its very adult content, to its totally different, race-swapped characters, gay Velma (and Daphne!) and just TERRIBLE writing, it's safe to say fans of the actual Scooby-Doo should stay far away!

Velma is actually the most inclusive show on earth. No matter your sex, race, financial status, sexual preference - you will hate this show. We're finally united.
Humanity will achieve peace

If you think it's such a bad show wait you watched 2 episode must not have been that bad you kept watching it. Plus let tell you originally Scooby Doo for years Velma accused of lesbian. Sorry Daphne even on old was a slut then true slut now. Fred on old show common sense has van to get laid

It was like that from the teaser. They managed to even piss off the crazed liberals too.
Race swap: Check
Same sex: Check
Destroying the source material and insulting the original fans: Check
This is so tiresome.
You literally can't watch anything on Netflix without whiffing agenda. Its exhausting for sure.
They took my childhood show and some how messed it up. What other childhood show will they mess up next? Tom and Jerry, Ben 10?
Absolutely the BEST comment here! You summed it up perfectly!

It's exhausting
This is like G4TV all over again.
You can tell Mindy Kaling never got the white boyfriend she wanted as a young girl, and shes still bitter about it.
Yo figure that's what's driving all of this nonesense? Because that would explain a lot.
She dated that dude from the office and he’s white, I think it’s because it’s normal to make fun of white ppl and nobody else
@@pittland44 If it's not exactly that, it's some mundane grievance like that.
exactly what I was thinking lmao
What do you mean? Every chance she gets she implies she likes white guys, it’s lame but if yr implying the fred character bashing is because of this then, yr off.
“It’s a show for adults!” As a response to inquiries about the sexualization of children is just the Western version of anime’s “she’s actually a 3,000 year old demon slayer who takes FORM of an 8 year old girl. So it’s totally fine to sexualize her!”
It’s honestly worrisome, I’m noticing a trend. I feel like we’d get the same results if shows like that took place in college but they always go the highschool/ junior high route. Oversexualizing children in shows like big mouth, euphoria, 13 reasons why, riverdale. Now yes teens have sex but these are ADULT shows that show teens having sex. And even though the cast are adults it’s still the message they’re sending
@@josephjack4365 Someone is finally getting it.
@@josephjack4365 it's not a recent trend, it's something that has been going on in teen series for a long time, I can't recall some other show names right now but I can remember One Tree Hill. This genre has had this issue of oversexualising teenagers for a long, long time.
"The reason Velma is an Indian is because the voice actor is."
"The reason Sonic has no voice actors is because no one can find a blue fast hedgehog to voice him."

LOOOOOOOL yes exactly. Such foolishness
@@obrienjackson6907 twas a joke 😆
I wonder why they chose a black guy to voice Kratos. But race swapping from white to black is fine as always :p
@Divinity Gaming That's the thing, they're voice actors, literally the only thing that matters is their voice, nobody cares about their sex, race, sexuality, gender identity, etc. It only matters that they have a nice voice suitable to the character they are voicing. Kratos voice actor is amazing, but yeah, by their own definition, since Kratos is inspired in greek and nordic mythology, then the person voicing him should be caucasian, lol -.-
It's pathetic and actually perpetuates discrimination and putting people in "boxes".
Remember when Scooby Doo was a goofy, fun show about the gang solving mysteries and no one cared about the characters identities/sexuality? Pepperidge farm remembers.
Don’t worry, Shaggy. I’m packing heat!
People always cared about the characters' sex lives. Running gags among online forums include Fred and Daphne hooking up, Shaggy and Daphne hooking up, Fred and Velma hooking up, Shaggy and Velma hooking up, Daphne and Velma hooking up...
And yes, even the girls hooking up with the dog.
Y'all are deluding yourselves if you think that no one ever suggested sexuality in Scooby-Doo.

No matter how inappropriate.
Mindy is the definition of privilege. She grew up in aupper class, went to an ivy league college & never had to struggle to get where where she is. She made Velma herself insert but this version of Fred is actually her.
People raised in privilege equate minor inconveniences to systemic world ending crisis
The big irony of this show is that despite Fred being painted as a shitty person, he still manages to be the most likable and sympathetic so far. He actually experiences positive character growth when he started to remember Velma after their heart to heart and he defends her against the rest of the students with no ulterior motive.
And then she goes and still tries to prove how he is the murderer
@@sidecharacter3171 so taking the stand and saying the opposite doesn't go to help him

@@dominicvincent87 yeah, I kinda want to watch it now cause like, there’s so much shitty shows that CZcamsrs defend. So the fact that there’s so much outrage about this show makes me think it’s not that bad..like Mediaholic complaining about the “sex” yet she also says the show is for adults, like..?
What I find funny is, Kaling said she related to Velma so much growing up but then she stripped Velma of who she is completely. Race aside, Velma was a shy, sweet, smart, meekly funny but overall a nice person. This downgraded version is loud, bully, rude, self aggrandizing, not funny and a mean person. If this is who she related to, that just says alot.
I don't understand how people need to share a skin color or background to feel any sort of attachment to characters? It's baffling, I'm quite afraid of the future will they go "Oh you racist cuz you liking X & Y instead of liking the one who look like you!"
Are they saying in a way that (lets say for the sake of example) there's nothing to other races but a skiN that is temporary too?
Velma 2023, kahling made velma mean, cruel, vicious and hateful.
When l was a fan of Padma Lakshmi of Top Chef, she was always like that and everything was about race with her. To a point of barring “brown chefs” on Top chef.
Scoob did Velma better then Velma.
Stripped is an understatement. She eviscerated her whole character. That wasn't Velma. That was Mindy Kaling: Ugly as hell and unfunny. That's the whole crapfest of a show in a nutshell
This isn't a Scooby Doo spin-off, this is Mindy Kaling's therapy session.
Good point
Wonder what BJ Novak and the rest of the Office cast think of her after this
So Scooby Doo got the She Hulk treatment?
@@Lonovavir this show is far worse than she hulk

Accurate!
I like Scrappy. Especially in the early movies like Ghoul School and Reluctant Werewolf.
@@pittland44 Oh please, you know "Lemme at 'em" would be considered toxic masculinity.
Mindy Kaling identifies with Velma, but having heard about her upbringing, I get the feeling that her parent's servants cut her food for her when she was a child.
Someone once suggested to me that many of these low-effort, no-talent woke TV shows smell of money laundering, and I haven't been able to shake off the idea ever since. There is no better explanation.
Tax payer money laundering?
Interesting
I wouldn’t doubt it
Yes, I could believe that's possible.
Argh! I believe it too as so much money is poured into the, specially the live actions shows, yet to see it play out on screen, you truly wonder where did all the money go?
I said this about 3 months ago. They are pumping money into these horrible productions but paying their people basically nothing because they know it will flop.
More or less yeah, the more woke a company gets (or pretends to be) the higher they score on a dumb ESG scale from a company called black rock. The higher they score on that means the more investment $ they get and I'm sure a sizable amount goes to CEO bonuses and other shady things
Daphne was the one who had the wealthy parents in the original. She was the one that funded the group.
I thought shaggy was low-key rich

no one was above the others
no one acted like that either
I'm a Black male, baby boomer who grew up watching Scooby-Doo. I enjoyed it as a child and have fond memories of Scooby. I probably spent hundreds of hours sitting in front of the old "cathode ray tube" TV's watching it on weekends. I'm tired of all this race swapping.
There are 1000s of cultures all over the world, and I would think that those cultures would have a right to celebrate themselves. Race swapping is "racism" by another name. Every culture has the desire to represent themselves without others destroying or altering their works. To me, it is demeaning for one group to race swap another because it makes the "swappers" seem inferior. It says that they don't have the creativity, intelligence, or planning to create their own, they are piggy-backing off of someone else's success.
Why race swap which is the easy and cheap route, a lack of creativity? Create an original ideal and implement it. Respect others and build your own.
It is offensive for these Woke people to push their supremacist agenda on the masses. Give us entertainment not "social engineering". If you go Woke, you go Broke. Where the hell is Shaggy and Scooby at?
They race swapped Shaggy too and called him by his real name Norville instead of his nickname Shaggy. 😢 I’m disgusted with this train wreck spin off/version of a childhood favorite. If I owned the rights to the Scooby Doo franchise I’d sue for damaging the reputation of a 53 year old franchise that has made billions being wholesome and family friendly.
@Swingout, race swapping is not "racism". And before you try to do the "Well what if Black Panther was race swapped" argument, I'm referring to when changing race has no bearing on the actual culture of that character. How is your biggest problem with the show the race swapping, when the show is trash for so many reasons?
@@crfstewarje race swapping is 100% racist. It literally screams "the writer is so unbothered about another culture to explore what makes it unique, but they prefer to go the easier route of giving an already beloved IP that race, so they can earn brownie points from woke Hollywood". This is so incredibly obvious and annoying to us POCs who watch the shows, because it tells us that the writer can't be bothered to explore our culture, but he still wants us to support him idea, because he made the character black, Asian or Hispanic, etc.
If the writer wants to support minority cultures he can do it by writing existing IPs that celebrate them like black panther, etc. Or create new IPs about such cultures like the princess and the frog, everything everywhere all at once, Encanto, Coco, etc.
@@crfstewarje well it is.. like why you want to swap a white characters to be black, asian or hispanic? Because being white is bad nowadays right and all the bad traits will go to the white characters.. imagine doing that to an establish poc characters y’all will said that racist right?
@@crfstewarje everyone knows the show is trash but can't say anything about the race swapping because that person would be called a racist. if the race swapping never happened but everything was still trash people would have the same reactions. obviously, though, Velma is a self insert of the writer, so making Velma indian is just a lazy way of showing that.
just another point of why the show sucks - the lazy character writing ties into the race swapping. making shaggy black really has no impact besides the removal of his goofy voice (sadly). same thing with Daphne who being Asian contributes nothing. the problem with her character is that she is a teen being overly sexualized (obviously not ok).
Edit: and Fred stays white so he be a punching bag
Fred always struck me as a strong lead male character. Caring, decent minded, protective. Their current portrayal seems just another way to rip those things down.
You're not allowed to have a positive male role model in tv... that's illegal in Hollywood.
You're supposed to have the male leads hate having a cock or be incredibly weak, bumbling, and overly emotional.
In the cartoons yes. In the movies Fred was kind of an idiot. Imo
In the mystery incorporated cartoon he was also weak-minded, but his joke was being a trap obsessed freak.
Fred was kept as is to use him as a punching bag for everyone else.
Thats the point. We can thank the feminazis for this. They started the ball rolling.
Yeah it's funny that Velma acts like she's smarter than everyone here, but still has to cheat off Norville's homework. Shouldn't it be the other way around 🤦♂️.
Yeah, Norville acts more like a standard Velma, in that sense. And heck, Fred here is much closer to a Shaggy (a funny doof who comes from a rich background).
Bro I couldn't even finish the 2nd episode. I remember when Daphne was trying to think of a way to help Velma I started saying "no, please don't, no" cuz I could see from a mile away that she was going to kiss her. I just stopped the stream when it happened. It's bad enough that media nowadays has ruined Velma by hijacking her character to push agendas but now the LGBT community is going to kidnap Daphne and say she's always been bisexual or gay like they did with Velma. Every character here is such a jerk except for beta simp downgraded Shaggy aka Norville.
Glad your thoughts are still visible and wasn't usurped by the Shadow Realm. I 100% agree with you. It seems like every other popular character these days is being tossed into the soup of the alphabet, and it's disheartening and abhorrent.
The agenda is to reprogram us, starting with children's shows
Exactly, Velma can be bi or a lesbian because ppl have been saying she is for ages but daphne was never bi or gay she’s always been straight and has been in love with Fred since it was created
@@oceanfive8201 No she can't. Just because freaks and shippers say so doesn't mean characters should be turned inside out to suit the whims of said freaks. If she wasn't made that way from the start, characters shouldn't be co-opted because gen-z has a norp addiction.
@@billywashere6965 well it doesn’t matter what the creators or even the show says anymore if fans of a show ship two ppl so much they become cannon and everyone ends up shipping them instead of the actual coupe on the show, it happened in stranger things, the two main characters el and Mike and literally together but because everyone ships will and Mike I wouldn’t be surprised if the show actually made them a couple to make the viewers happy

Ah... I see you got the pronoun right...
Fred was one of my favorites. He was always kind and charismatic, and he cared about his friends. Of course they would make him to be an awful person.
Fred was the glue to the whole squad. No wonder this show failed
"White man bad", don'tcha know?
He's a white male. Therefore he has to be a sex-pest and/or moron.
Right! Okay, bcus I was over here like, "Fred was really nice and cool," but I know why he is how he is now, but still. Damn.
Yeah man, the writers & whoever was in charge of this show dude, maybe they did face some cruelty & abuse in real life from super wealthy & preppy white frat bros in ivy league schools or whatever, or else boyfriends or guys that just viewed them as fun flings so they used this TV show to get all of their revenge, release their pent up resentment & hatred for the most wealthy priviledged white guys over the decades.
But in reality what happen? They heavily ruined, disrespected, made fun of the 10s of millions of Scooby Doo fans, they heavily hurt and made millions of big Fred fans feel so awful, in the end they did not hurt anyone but all the fans like wtf, sigh, this is just a sad disaster. Leave all your personal business to your real personal life not in big massive IPs everyone wants to see their beloved characters portrayed in.
Your father spoke with wisdom. Glad to see there are some sane people still left in the world
They took something beloved and somewhat wholesome and filled it with hate. No one wants that for Scooby Doo. It's kind of funny that after years of franchise after franchise being ruined, Scooby Doo seems to be where everyone collectively draws the line.
I've been watching Velma and i will admit, It was okay but that still doesn't count the show being good or great. Even Be cool Scooby Doo, the show that is divisive, makes that show better than Velma.
I walked in and my daughter was watching it. I was appalled - having been a big fan of the original Scooby Do. Not only was it poorly done, but it was an insult to the franchise.
I would've shot the tv and explained to her why that show is pure evil.
Please tell me you’ve shown your kids the original? They need to watch the older ones they were always better
I would've disowned my kid if they were watching this crap
Jk but still
I hope you explained to her that the show was a racist, sexist purposefully made work.
What did your daughter think of it?
The fact that the "diverse and inclusive" mystery gang doesn't actually get along like the original and is full of unlikeable characters speaks VOLUMES
That's technically what made the show trashed. There's probably more Irony than that.
They seem to make these shows just to troll the fans.. and that shock factor only lasts two or three episodes and then people don’t bother watching… they never learn…
Velma gettingbit on with Daphne is just peak fanfiction, soneone at WB literally gave millions of dollars for someone to do their fanfiction story as a tv show and force it on unsuspecting audience and then csll people ists and phobes for not liking their literal pile of crap
The irony of these writers body shaming their version of fred so blatantly, gotta love that double standard
maybe Meghan Markle was one of the writers.
Why would a lesbian know anything about the size of a guy’s penis? Why is that even an insult?
body shaming involves shaming people's bodies that they can change which is wrong. This is shaming somebody for the way they were born. Which is much better and very progressive.
It was a hit with the the target audience. The target audience was Mindy Kaling.
Well, she is the protagonist of her own show, again.
I have a feeling lilly Singh had a heavy hand in this

Daria wasn't a forced character, but one that appeared naturally in the show. I have no problems with those kinds of characters, it's when their FORCED upon us when it's a problem. It's easily identifiable and RUINS the show.
Scooby was the reason why I, as a child watched the show, hence the name Scooby-Doo. Her dropping the dog makes what she's doing no more than a bait and switch. Why didn't Mindy use her power to just have a show with same premise that doesn't have anything to do with Scooby-Doo? Why does she have to stand on someone else's shoulders to make a deal?

As much as i liked Eragon when i was 12, its quite shit too. Apes off of star wars and lotr without shame. Paolini got lucky his parents owns a publishing company, and most likely the first book was at least partially ghost written or he had a lot of help. Still pretty impressive for a kid, and it was a solid read as a 12yr old.
To be fair, most of the award winning quality of Eragon was the "Novel written by a 15-year-old" part, rather than the content of the book itself. It's derivative to the point of outright plagiarism, which is pretty much what you'd expect from a kid's first attempts at writing.

Zombie Island is what got me to enjoy Scooby Doo. I was never really a big fan of the original series when I was a kid but I liked that movie and then watched newer stuff with Mystery Inc being my favorite. It's too bad they did Zombie Island Dirty with the "sequel movie".
The two original live action movies was more mature and well liked than this crap.
That's not what they mean by "adult".
Mindy wanted to make an Origin story.....what she didnt realize is we already HAVE ONE in a pup named Scooby-doo.....It is always that Sinister Red Herring!
You can explain away things like Norville not going by "Shaggy", the gang not being in sync, and them not being that close by simply stating that they aren't really friends yet, those things will come around when they get more comfortable around one another; this being an origin story, they aren't going to be who they become when they grow up.
But completely changing their personalities, there's just no justifying that and there's no justifying the horrible writing.
I like how Mindy kaling said she relates to Velma when she was younger. Apparently not since Velma can only be relatable when she’s race swapped and had all these changes done to her
Also they made shy and socially awkward and nerdy, yet kind Velma a cunt. Yep, they just made her a cunt.
She probably related to Velma in one insignificant superficial way, but had to change everything else to relate properly.

Mindy Kaling was born rich, went to an Ivy League school, and got her job at The Office immediately out of college. She's the poster child for entitlement.
To quote Tolkien "Evil cannot create anything new, they can only corrupt and ruin what good forces have invented or made." This quote seems to sum up modern screen writers and show runners. They cater to the woke mob, which only represents a small, yet boisterously loud and obnoxious minority of people. My daughter who grew up watching Scooby-Doo said it was the worst thing she'd ever seen; disgusting was the word I think she used. Mindy totally destroyed the franchise.
Regarding the emasculation of Fred, therapy would've been easier and cheaper for these scorned women on the team. It really did feel personal, you're right!
"if I was a rich white male, I'd kill someone just because I could"
yeah... there are some real psychos out there.
Cheaper? Instead of paying for therapy, THEY get paid to write this trash.
Probably the reason they hate white men so much is because no white man wants to be with them. That is normally the case with the white male haters.

And the funny part is that they haven’t realised that Fred an Velma are basically the same character, both characterised by rude and immature behaviours. But for some reason, only Fred seems to be shamed for that. Am I detect someone treating people differently because of their race? What do we usually call such people?
Oops I guess we forgot “POC can’t be racist.” 🙄

Obviously part of it is because he's white.
I'd say that it's more to do with the fact that he's male than being white. Because Shaggy is treated as a laugingstock of a loser here too.
As a Scooby-Doo fan, thank you for not putting him in this smelly piece of steaming dog poo!

Fred is the leader of the Scooby Gang and he's the prime suspect on the bases of being a rich white guy. I think at this point if they just came out and said this show was a parody the fans would accept it and have a good laugh.
Better parodies were done... Like in Harvey Birdman Attorney at law where Scooby and Shaggy were framed and there were a lot of weed jokes but... come on... it's Shaggy... would you be surprised?
Pretty sure they wouldn't. Parody needs to be based in the original concept in some way.
@@Jim87_36is that even a parody let’s be honest og scooby doo made a lot of pot jokes lol
Mike Tyson Mysteries already did that years ago.
@@Olimar92 Well to me it would make more sense than calling it a straight up retelling of the origin. For one Scooby is always a Puppy when Shaggy first takes him in. Meaning that as a teenager Norville would have to already own an adult Scooby. Another thing is the only way I would find any of this stuff remotely funny is if it isn't meant to be taken seriously.
102: How to destroy the childhood of an entire generation in less than 30 minutes.
The most ironic part about all of this is that the original mysteries from scooby doo centred around how the people you knew were just people you didn't know who wanted to scam others for profit. I'm glad that VAs and producers of the show embody this trait.
Bruh scooby probably read the script and was like "ruck no raggy I won't do it even for a Scooby snack"
This comment was funnier than every joke in that God forsaken show
Friendly reminder: Hate watching every episode just to give it a low score on imdb/rt and complain about it online means absolutely nothing. THEY won the second you clicked play. Hate watching does indeed get shows renewed.
Riverdale is a good example of that 🤣🤣

Lol tell that to she hulk… every you tuber and their mother watched that junk to suck out some CZcams views and it got cancelled pretty immediately. I don’t imagine the new Witcher will be getting renewed either.
At the end of the day everyone involved in this garbage has already been paid so your view only goes towards funding HBO.
There are also countless examples of shows people never heard of going into their 6th season. Or reboots that no one ever wanted.. why did they remake Beverly Hills 90210 in the year 2019?..
Hollywood is a money laundering enigma that you just have to watch like a monkey behind glass at the zoo.
I don't see how 'they' can 'win' by us watching it here... this site is free. The producers of this shitpile have received zero dollars from me.
The only way I would watch is is to pirate it. And I see no need to watch it to know what its about.
Your work on this is excellent, Lauren. Your Dad's aged wisdom on the broader scope of this tragedy is exceptional.
Has all the earmarks of a modern show:
-Remake
-Race swapping
-Changes sexual orientation of classic characters
-Writers have no concept of what the original show was about
-Written/produced by a so-called "oppressed" class that is actually from a privileged family
-Hates the source material
-Never took the time to research said source material
-Hates fans of the source material
-Hates the stereotypical white male strawman (manbaby, tiny d*ck jokes, etc)
-Pushes a woke agenda
-Blames the fans for failing (maybe not yet, but just wait)
There's probably more, but all modern craptertaiment to come out of Hollywood shares at least a few of these concepts. It's gotten to the point that I can't get excited for anything entertainment wise anymore. Hell, the Dead Space remake, as good as it looks, made one of the original characters a lesbian, which had absolutely nothing to do with the story, and it was just thrown in there because "muh representation". Thankfully, my kids have rejected the wokery for the most part and have been looking up 90's classics on their own like Home Alone.
I think it's like an addict. Sometimes you have to let them hit absolute rock bottom before they turn their life around. It's no different in woke Hollywood, until the money dries up and they shift course, we're still going to be getting this crap. Maybe that's a good thing and people turn off the TV and actually go outside. We'll see.
I pirated it and I still feel ripped off
I used to pirate stuff. I don't do it now. My excuse is , Hollywood has to pay me to pirate their trash. It's not worth it.

America Ferrera voiced Astrid Hofferson in the HTTYD trilogy and TV series. A Latina voiced a Norse character and no one was none the wiser because no ome actually gives a damn. I actually found out that, like, in 2021, and I'm a big HTTYD fan. And, since she did such a great work, everybody loved her and Astrid. So, why did this woman feel the need to race swap Velma? I will never know.

No, Daphne was actually one of the most observant members of the gang.
(Episode 1) Daphne found the trail of paint paint leading to the secret art studio.
(Episode 3) She found a giant key which unlocked the door concealing stage magic equipment.
(Episode 4) She noticed the cigar store Indian was hollow before Fred discovers the map hidden inside
(Episode 5) She caught motion on the tracking device in Scooby’s collar, allowing the gang to intercept a trapped Scooby and save him from being run over by a train.
(Episode 10) She was the only member of the gang who remembered a coin was involved when the ghost clown hypnotized his victims, despite being in a trance.
This doesn’t even include the eventual revelation that she and her family were the reason Mystery Inc. exists.
I'm old enough that I grew up on Elmer Fudd carrying a shotgun, and there was no sex in ANY cartoon.
Ahhhh, the good ol' days.
Wascally wabbits.

And nobody died
For me the bigger problem is the kind of situations they put 15-16 years old kids in. Like the showers...
"Have you seen Velma yet?"
No, and don't plan to.
The way I see it, Velma is a show by smug people with bigoted ideas, who are easily impressed by themselves, for smug people who are easily entertained by having their own bigoted ideas regurgitated into their mouths.
How preening, selfish, and self indulgent must a person be to hijack a beloved children's cartoon and pervert it, so that they can replace one of the characters with their own self?
The perfect adult episode for ScoodyDoo was the supernatural special. that was so amazing XD
"I'll get a shotgun!" - Velma
"I'll get TWO shotguns!!" - Daphne
you do REALIZE featherbutt would be confused as hell when he sees fred right LOL
Or the mystery incorporated show on CZcams. It may not be as good as the supernatural special maybe but it's a great intro to a show.
Either that or the gang's guest spot on Johnny Bravo... which felt like a Scooby Doo episode inside of Johnny Bravo... and it worked.. SO well. And was hilarious.
Which was that one?
I barely got over the fact what had been done to Teen Titans (yeah, I know, it happened quite a while ago) and now they sell us this?
I grew up admiring Velma's wit, her snarky charm, she made me love wearing glasses!
What they had done to my poor girl...
At least with teen titans it was done to make it appeal to a younger audience.
Hell the producers even acknowledged the old fans hate for ttg and made an episode making fun of themselves.
When compared to this crap Valma was made by a black ultra nationalist who wanted the rights solely to ruin the IP.
Same. That was when people became attached to and inspired by characters due to similar interests, struggles, and personalities rather than appearances, though. Now, you can only “see yourself” in and relate to someone who looks like you. That idea sure seems to make people of different races out to be so different that we’re basically different species, however, because the human ability to empathize should never be limited by skin tone, and yet here it is. How depressing these shows are.
TT just wanted to appeal to kids. I don’t agree with that decision, but I can see why they would go down that route. I don’t know what Velma brings, nor who the target audience is.
As an male I find it disrespectful to my culture that an American character is raceswapped to indian, we have plenty of characters in pop culture and last thing we want is a race swapped character no one even cares about velma's indian background not even we Indians
Mindy Kaling wanted to be a tall, thin, pretty, white woman her entire life. Since that wasn't gonna happen she put herself in a cartoon and made a tall, thin, pretty, inexplicably red-headed, white/Asian woman lez out with her for no particular reason.
THIS is how you make a 'vanity project', folks! 🤣🤣
When was the last time a protagonist was actually a goody-goody type? They are all anti-heroes now, even Superman can't just be a good guy hero.
A lot of new movies just straight up don't have a protagonist now. Makes me bored with them quickly.
Maybe 20 years ago.
Liberals are degen.
Plenty of movies have good guys, they're just usually portrayed as the villain. The writers in Hollywood have such a warped morality that they conceive of good as evil, and evil as good.
That's what you watch anime for.
Norville: Great, not even being myself won't work.I
Shaggy: *Has the ladies falling for him by being himself*
9:17 "Why even bother to make a Scooby-Doo spin-off instead of an original show? I mean, I think we all know the reason why is because they wanted HBO Max to pick this up, but if it were an original IP, it would be a lot riskier."
Yeah; riskier, indeed. If it were an original IP, there wouldn't be the certainty of failure.
I want to see your dad happy; you should show him the first Blade movie if he hasn't seen it already.
I feel bad for Daphne. She started off as a sweet girl that always got kidnapped but in the 2000s they updated her to the Lois Lane of the gang as a journalist who seeks the truth and demands justice. Fred was the moral Anker of the group (unintentionally represented in a sailors uniform) being stoic and confident in the pursuit of what’s right while Velma overlooked the danger in exchange for clues, research and investigation. They were all the opposite of shaggy and Scooby who always like… wanted to come back during the day. It was a fun dynamic that ALSO showed that these diverse stereotypes of jock, nerd, popular girl and hippie could still be friends.
I feel a lot is lost here and the heart of the show is ignored to make statements that are already tired and boring.

This is not my Velma.
Velma was smart, witty, snarky, and a good friend.
This version of Velma is like a ball of hatred and spite, like a twisted version of Daria.
Daria was smart, had a conscience, and was intentionally portrayed as a flawed character. She was snarky on the outside but good-hearted deep down. Velma is just toxicity to the core.
@@e.t.2437 I'm fairly sure that's why the OP called it a twisted version of Daria. All the snark but none of the good.
@@Waylan23 Kinda figured, but wanted to defend Daria just in case. ;) Daria grows to become more understanding and less judgmental throughout the show. Her actions, for better or worse, have consequences. That's the kind of nuanced complexity that many modern shows are completely failing at depict. They WANT to shock audiences with subversive female characters, but forget that good subversion takes WORK.
I remember when Scooby-Doo shows were all about solving mysteries and funny high jinks. Not about sexual orientation, using pronouns, racism, and demasculinization of men.
This should be in the Guinness World Records as the worst TV show to ever exist. And shame on the creators for ruining a childhood show.
I saw this coming in 2016 studying film, everything became about race & sexuality
I understand the representation across culture matters but this was a step too far. The producers also made a shambolic attempt on replacing typical humour ingrained in free speech with its new “woke feminist jokes” which aren’t even funny cause it’s talking about “oppression”. I blame critical theory for this & examining bodies in the creative fields with its constant babble about with traditional tropes appearing “cliche” which is what film needs and has been missing for the past decades
In all honesty, I think reboots like this are less about a cash grab and more about deconstructing the childhoods of previous generations. It’s basically the ultimate f**k you to bastardize beloved characters and twist them into something unrecognizable to the people who grew up with them. There’s definitely a heavy element of contempt for older generations behind these productions, and I think that’s a more driving motivator than most of them let on.
I feel like Mindy saying Scooby being cut for being too childish is coporate code for “Be grateful”
I bet in the final episode they will tease scooby's presence in season 2. Plot twist: he gets raceswapped too, scooby is now a shiba inu

When these showrunners tell us that it is ridiculous for toxic fandom to demand nothing ever change (which is not actually true) I feel we ought to ask them instead what was it about the original that made them want to make their version. This woman apparently did not like the characters, the situations, the group dynamics, or the dog. Frankly it looks like she hated it and wanted to destroy other people's memories. All those people who liked the original must be punished. Sounds like a recipe for creativity, huh?
