    Thank you for making this video. Many other videos have the grade of engine oil mixed up between the gear and transmission regions. Even the official guzzi documentation was confusing. This is the clearest instruction video I have watched. Thanks again.

    Thanks for the video. There is no gearbox oil change instructions in Service manual for my Nevada 750ie, so this was helpful

    When I just bought my second hand Breva, I've had a situation during winter time, where my gearbox would get stuck in 1st gear and couldn't change gear to 2nd until it warmed up. The oil in the gear box must have been very old, it was very thick. I've pun new oil, and problem solved.

    Hello Mike!
    Thank you very much for your video manual. Very good explanation. My Breva has completely new oils and new season can begin. I wish you a lot of miles on your Breva.

    Rear transmission box lubrication:
    N.B. To check the oil level correctly, the
    transmission box and the swinging arm
    should be perfectly horizontal, as shown in fig. 27.

    Thanks Mike, very well-done video. For the 2021 V7 850 E5 Stone model, the service manual specifies 75W-140 oil for both the gearbox and the final drive. Do you think that it would be ok if we use the same 75-140 for the older model for both gearbox and transmission oil?

    • @MikesMachines
      @MikesMachines  Před 3 lety

      Ours has been weeping oil for years around the bell housing. A minor leak is not a problem. If it starts dripping from underneath it's time to check the rear main and gearbox seals.

    Any reason why cannot fill
    final drive oil through the top vent hole
    and just wait for oil to start dripping out of horizontal hole (which you used to fill the cardan oil)?

    • @MikesMachines
      @MikesMachines  Před 2 lety

      I can't think of any reason why not.

    • @louismartin4446

      @@MikesMachines The bigger question is why Guzzi would design it like that? I guess they needed a way to determine the level of oil by having the port horizontally- as they do for the gearbox oil, but did they really need a vent hole? (the gear box does not have one?).
      Maybe the top hole really is the fill port because it’s sure darn inconvenient to fill the horizontal port at the rear. The gear box level/fill hole
      is almost as inconvenient. I realize there are design compromises in any engine design but this vent hole on cardan case is an interesting one.
      Makes the Guzzi that much more full of character! LOL

    I don't even measure the oil, I just fill it till it comes out the fill hole, let it drain till it comes to a trickle, then it's full, cap it..

    Hi Mike, would you be so kind to tell me the crush washer and o-ring sizes? I’d like tu buy them before taking them off my motorcycle. What I found on the internet is this information, correct me if anything is wrong.
    The numbers mean: Inner/Outer/Thickness
    sump:
    front - 20/28/2mm
    rear - 10/18/1.5mm (with plastic insert)
    filter - 8/15/1mm
    rubber o-ring - don’t know the size
    gear box:
    10/18/1.5mm (with plastic insert)
    transmission:
    10/18/1.5mm

    • @MikesMachines
      @MikesMachines  Před 4 lety +2

      Those sizes look right but I've always bought them as spares.
      Front sump washer - GU95100709
      Rear sump, gear box & bevel drain washers - GU01528930
      You can substitute standard alloy crush washers for the plastic insert sealing washers if need be. The plastic type were a later update.
      In regards to the o-rings.
      Inspection/fill plug o-rings 20,24X2,62 - GU90706203
      But i doubt that they will need replacing.

    manual says 500cc of gear oil ....

  • @frankpinion4937
    @frankpinion4937 Před rokem

    Very poor explanation of changing the gearbox oil, in that the principal problem in completing this task is the amount of room between the gearbox oil drain bolt & the catalytic converter (balancer pipe), with oxygen sensor. Because of the conical shape it depends on it's orientation as to how much room you have to remove the drain bung. In other words turn it 90 degrees one way & you will have very little room but turn 90 degrees in other direction & you'll have a lot more room. The difficult factor here in turning the pipe though is that with no main stand they have a pipe that runs from one side of the bike to the other. If the oxygen sensor is above this pipe then the pipe itself may stop you from turning it enough to get the gap you need. This means either removing oxygen sensor or removing the pipe.
