I feel sorry for people who missed the JJ Redick Duke era, he was DIFFERENT
2002 I became a Duke fanatic, Daniel Ewing/Sheldon Williams/Luol Deng/Chris Duhon/JJ. That was my squad, especially on NCAA March Madness 2004 & 2005. Those were the gold ages of college basketball, dynasty's were still a thing & 4 year players.

When you consider how hating him became a 'thing,' and his age and ability to CONTINUALLY dominate...pretty amazing. Never got how the hate JJ thing took on a life of its own. Wasn't warranted.
I think him and Paul Pierce were my favorite players in all of basketball when JJ was at Duke

White people are easier targets even during that era because if your criticize a black player as a white guy you are deemed racist (which is ridiculous). So drunk white guys finally had an easy target with JJ Redick and Duke being hated already just added fuel to the fire.
This is why I love JJ's podcast. They talk about the aspects of basketball that don't often get talked about and give everyone their due's. When was the last time you heard someone talking about players' "elite screening" ability? 😂

Well, basketball is his LIFE, if you live and breathe something and don't do anything else - plus, always focusing on polishing your skill even sharper - you will build more neural connections and these pathways are going to be more efficient in your brain. Imagine how many hours he dedicated and talked about the game? And the moment stop it (the moment you start filling your mind with other stuff), you lose it, it's pretty crazy how fast that can happen.
Is the same thing with chess players. But i agree, it's truly fascinating and mesmerizing.

That was beyond word... You can see that there's so much history between those two, the way PJ laughed and J looked you could see how much of a good time they were having. It was intimate like a reunition between old colleagues, in a bar having a beer and talking the about the old times. And i'm shocked about how much they remember and value their college time and teammates, it's really, REALLY, special to them.
It's so crazy to able to see that, this podcast is giving me one of the best and most insightful experiences i've ever had, which i DID NOT expect could happen.

I remember watching that game unfold on TV. At the time JJ was having a good season, averaging like 21 a game, but that game was when people started talking about him as a possible National Player of the Year. That Texas team was loaded.

He’s from NC . Raleigh I believe. He probably wanted to play there. A lotta scouts thought he was undersized to play on the interior at a High Major at the time . I’m a Wake fan and remember wishing he had gone to Wake . I’ve always liked him as a player. I think Roy meant if he’d had been the Coach at UNC during Tucker’s recruiting he would’ve offered him. It’s how I took it to mean.

Thinking back: I only vaguely recall the Duke-Texas game, but if this was 05-06 they were close to a rematch. LSU ended both these guys that year. Duke in the Sweet 16 and Texas in the Elite 8.

If you were fortunate enough to be alive and old enough to understand what was going on during the early 2000s(I've heard about and looked up the 80s and 90s too), you witnessed college rivalries, beefs, and villains the likes of which will never exist again. Think about the level of anger and hate Lebron and KD got their first games back in OKC and Miami respectively. Imagine a player getting that EVERY game that wasn't in their home gym the entire time they were in college. The amount of hate JJ got was unreasonable. The chants and signs allowed in back then would get an entire school shut down today. Maryland was the worst on JJ too. I still can't believe the lines those students crossed and I'm 30 now.
