He was in the right frame of mind even in his last fight his leg was just fucked up even before the fight.
I wouldn't get your hopes up. In one of his post fight interviews after losing to Jones he basically admitted if he couldn't be #1 than he's done. This fight makes sense on paper but I personally feel he is done fighting. If he stays in it, it's purely for the money. He'll never touch UFC gold so long as Jones and DC are still active.

Only win that matters is beating the champ and Gus has gone 0 - 3 vs champs before. Even if he wins this fight against Smith he won't get the belt. Not while Jones and DC are still active.
@Viking King I agree 100% that's true. The pressure is on him for sure to preform well in front of the home crowd. I am rooting for him too but, I just feel that win or loss, his career as a fighter may be closer to ending that continuing.
Last time when he proposed to his wife after almost killing Texeira was one of the most amazing things to watch in the Octagon.

I think it was good for him. It revealed that his style can be done a little better. It does suck that those guys locked up the top for so long, but it does a good job of showing that there are distinct levels to the sport even at the upper precipice.

It's sad that the only reason I knew about Gustafson was due to the UFC mobile game (he's the starter) and an achievement in Goat Simulator (when you defeat every goat in the fighting ring and unlock Ripped Goat).

In UFC 4 Alexander Gustafsson is one of the least played in the online mode, Wich proves to me how critically underrated he is. So if you do play the online mode in UFC 4 expect to see alot of clueless people playing as Conor McGregor.

Jones was right. Gus’s fighting style hasn’t changed, nor has he improved on anything. He’s the same ole Gus. That style of fighting is old news now days.

Jones wasn’t juicing their last fight. Trust me man, I’m not a jones fan at all. But he was extremely accurate on his assessment of Gus. Literally go back and watch all of his fights. Same movement, same, kicks, same set ups, etc.

For example if you’re a amazing wrestler like khabib, Askren, or DC then why change? But a lot of strikers have to change their games because people will easily pick up on their techniques, set ups, etc. and easily start picking them apart.
