- With everyone building the new Eduard Zero, we thought we should take on the previous champion to see how the 1990s vintage Hasegawa kit compares to the latest and greatest.

You definitely did your homework with the colours of Mitsubishi vs Nakajima, well done.
Good to compare both kits. Academy also recently released their own version of the A6M2b 1/48. It looks nice in the reviews. Would be good to compare with Eduards zero. Eduard is releasing the Rufe which would be better than Tamiya old moulds one.
What paint did you use for the fuselage and wings (gray/green).

How does the old Hasegawa kit compare to the ancient Tamiya kit? Would you still recommend the ancient Tamiya kit? It is still relatively cheap.
Well... cheap is about the only edge that old kit has and eventually, a slight edge at that. I would imagine being Tamiya it sill assembles acceptably well, but it can't hold a candle detail wise to the Hasegawa kit let alone Eduard.
Which Mission Models light grey did you add to the Mission Models Zero Amber and in what ratio to get the color you liked
Sorry, I have no idea. I just squirted some in the bottle and mixed it up until it looked right. If I had to guess, maybe 10-15% light grey/white?
The Hasegawa Zero canopy is much less accurate than the Eduard, being way too tall, with too upright sides, and is too broad on top as a result. Tamiya's 2008 and up canopy is just slightly better than Eduard's, in being slightly more sloped on the sides, but at least there the difference is small, unlike with Hasegawa... 1990s Hasegawa kits are generally massively overrated except for the excellent Typhoon and J2M "Jack", and among the worst of the bunch are their awful Me-109s, which many people still mistakenly build due to the lack of useful criticism... The hobby has moved on from inauthentic shapes, at least for some of the more important subjects.
