First Impressions - Airfix 1/72 Messerschmitt Me 410
Airfix certainly snuck this one in under the radar! Keeping not only the release date, but the entire developement a secret right up until the last minute, Airfix has produced a rather good kit of this sleek, twin-engined aircraft.
Designed to replace the obsolescent Bf 110 in the "zestorer" or heavy fighter role, the Me 210 and later 410, would suffer much the same as its predecessor at the hands of Allied single-engine fighters. Perhaps best remembered for being equipped with a BIG gun to shoot down US bombers, the fewer than 1200 Me 410s produced were like many other German wonder-waffles; too little, too late.

Initially celebrated, then quickly shunned after its release, the new 1/72 Mk.XVI Mosquito from Airfix has had its fair share of controversy. That being said, it is still the best starting point for a late-war Mosquito... Which is why we've decided to show you how to correct the more obvious issues with this otherwise decent kit. Is there any chance of posting photos of the build or completed model? I've got this kit and have never built a resin model before. 🇦🇺👍🏻
Just subscribed Awesome job where did you get your paint rack?
Airfix and Revell both seem to drop the ball on a regular Basis !!!
Hello, is this kit still available? Wooden deck, too?
If you ever get to Omaha, there is a Vulcan in the collection at the Strategic Air Command and Aerospace Museum near Ashland, NE. They also have a B17, B1, B29, and B36, among many other SAC related aircraft.
Great review👍 I’m tempted 😮😂 Currently building the special hobby 109 which is a peach.
Looking forward to new reviews COMRADE Kyle)
Absolutely superb…one of the best models I have seen made in a long time 👌🏻
Can you paint this with the supplied paints ta
I was very impressed with this kit once i got it in my hands. The detail is exceptional.
I've been a fan of Airfix since 1966-67 and my stash still reflects that fact but, creating a well engineered but detail flawed kit is unfortunately something that Airfix has been doing for quite a while now even with the wealth of reference material available. My fave clanger of Airfix's is the 2012 1/72 scale A-4B Skyhawk kit that used the USS Intrepid Museum's A-4B as reference. I've actually written a long "correction" article addressing this kit and it's "problems". The incorrectly shaped nose stands out upon opening the box. There are a lot of missing details along with incorrect/completely wrong panel lines and details, access panels that do not exist, access panels that every A-4 ever built has missing, anemic undersized stores. Correct is the plan view, MLG wells and dimensions along with great decals. The far older (from 1987 on) Fujimi 1/72 scale A-4's are superior to this kit even though they are a bit "fat" due to a reference drawing error. It's annoying when "accuracy" is considered detrimental, being referred to as "rivet counting". If accuracy is not your thing in this great hobby of ours then each to their own, but don't go putting down a well researched work that obviously endeavours to help, inform and instruct a modeller wishing to make an accurate model of this subject using this kit. Great vid BTW, nicely finished Mozzie, will use as a ref for mine.
What's a deccel? It's decal!
I have pic of rommell and tank crew on top of a dak tank, and they definitely not in black
Xf paint is both acrylic and lacquer, depending on thinner, its a hybrid
Screws like holes in the wall to hang a smartTV...few and thick details....low price....Ah no, that is no longer possible with Brexit...Well, all that remains is huge holes, lines of panel like trenches and few thick details. What more can I say ? If I had said only AIRFIX I would have said it all.
I feel I need a medical clearance from my cardiologist before I can start this kit.
Thank you! Good tip on going to scalemates for instructions!
please do more
hey i would love it if you could get the storm raven gunship or drop pod kits in stock? i love your videos and i go to your store all the time.
The kit I bought from you showed up today. Wow! it looks even better IRL. Amazing kit. Thanks guys. 👍
Please make more videos I love going to your store
Love Maiden, lifelong fan since 12, and just got back into modelling. Funny thing is, once I discovered bands like Maiden and girls, I quit building over 30 years ago. Well, I got the urge to build again and just ordered this kit (kind of ironic)! Now I need to brush up on my character painting skills to do Eddie some justice! Up the Irons! They honestly have so many songs they could make kits from, the R101 airship comes to mind (Empire of the Clouds).
I think Airfix needs to up their game. A couple of (kit) generations ago, Airfix was the go to place. The home of quality Spits. But now they are starting to look very basic
I have several Spitfires, but I found this version interesting for serving with the Americans, and I also got it on Amazon with a discount that I couldn't pass up.
I have the Bristol Beaufort in my stash, waiting to be assembled.
You definitely did your homework with the colours of Mitsubishi vs Nakajima, well done.
If you were to leave the catapults off you could place a couple of Helicopters on deck, since they would've been in service by then.
Nice work! do you have Mirage 2000 kit by Kinetic is it good ?
ARMORY kits are short run moulding and don’t use ejector pins, early moulding are nice and sharp but the quality fall off very quickly with subsequent mouldings, the kits tend to be very intricate unfortunately the moulding quality doesn’t match the technical quality and they become very difficult to assemble to the point of not knowing what is kit and what is flash, they can build into nice models but can take a lot of work.
ARMORY kits are usually well designed, perhaps too well for short run moulds, even if you get the kits very early in the production run there is always flash and mould lines, sometimes so thick that you can not tell what is flash and what is kit! Kits later in the production run become a real hot mess not so well defined bits. Just given up on building their SA 22 greyhound once Zvezda released theirs, I have two ZSU 23 4s on the go which are lounging in the to finish box as I needed a rest from them.
I just bought this kit with the idea to build it for a good friend who is in his 50s and still loves Iron Maiden. I thought I could push thru this build, but the Revell kit is pretty weak for a 2014 release. I think I’m going to get the Kotari Mk I kit and just use the Iron Maiden decals from this kit. And Eddie, of course.
I have all three Airfix V Bombers in my stash, just waiting for room on my workbench.🤔
i build this model right now and i dont have a machine gun in the wings what can i do
I cannot believe how badly Airfix messed up the tracks on these kits. The Tiger used only one type of track link, same on both sides of the tank. That's simpler for maintenance, spare part supply etc. So, the detailing on the track would point forward on one side, and backward for the other side. That's the only way it could fit. But Airfix have MIRRORED their track parts, making TWO kinds of track. Yes, I'm talking about the detailed "link and length" parts which are supposedly the better ones. To cap it all : Airfix tell you to attach the turret spares upside down.
There were inly 38 and 40 cm. People, myself included have called them 36cm and 38cm which is wrong.
I did two lancs with bombays closed and gear up. Parts fit beautiful.
Good to compare both kits. Academy also recently released their own version of the A6M2b 1/48. It looks nice in the reviews. Would be good to compare with Eduards zero. Eduard is releasing the Rufe which would be better than Tamiya old moulds one. What paint did you use for the fuselage and wings (gray/green). Thanks for the video.
Mission Models IJN Amber Grey lightened with white 10-15%-ish
I believe that at one point during the war before the class was cancelled, that there may have been discussion about replacing the 40 mm Bofors with the proposed new 3"/50 cal DP twin open mounts on a 2 for 3 basis.
Eddie fits perfectly in the built-in cockpit. You should only adjust it to the seat and the stick with his arms and legs beforehand when the cockpit is being built.
Well we got the recon version
Good build review
Where did you buy this?
Very interesting video and I'll be correcting the bomb doors and fairing on mine. Regarding the crew door, Airfx go this correct. The BXVI was pressurised and had an internal upwards hinged door to help seal the cockpit.
I've just built this kit and really enjoyed it, but I had some real trouble attaching the front fuselage to the wings. Much filling and sanding hasn't really concealed the joint. I notice that you don't bother putting all the stencils on too.
I'm curious if this hull is rc conversion friendly like the tamiya kit? I want a high-quality kit, but also be able to rc convert as well.
Great video. Well made and informative. Good looking model.
I enjoyed your review I am amazed though it took China to build a great kit where clearly it should have been done in the U.S. , keep up the good work well done indeed .
This is one the most novel and beautiful kits I’ve ever seen !
Iirc, Revell we’re sued due to a “modeller” not building a kit that was anywhere near the box picture of the completed model (built by a pro) That’s why Revell box pictures are of shoddy builds to cover themselves. Crazy isn’t it. Great review though. Loved your Airfix mosquito build review. I went out and bought a Tamiya one😂 Cheers👍🍺🍺🍺
