Nice solos all around, but Joe Sample is something else. They're all were so gifted. RIP Joe Sample. RIP Wilton Felder.

Back in my college days I listened to Crusaders very much.. all of my funk guitar style is from them...and kids wonder where I learned them from...I say from THE MASTERS THE CRUSADERS.....Rhapsody In Blue which this tune is from is a very rare CD Japanese import only...one of my all time albums then I had it on LP.
Seeing Stix Hooper on drums gives you the chills.....without him they never sounded the same.

The Bill Withers version is just a village boy telling his story. He's not trying to dazzle you, just telling you what Satchmo, Jelly Roll and Fats Waller did to him. No fluff. That belongs to the aforementioned individuals.The only musician that can praise other musicians in their song! Mas grande co___nes! (Do the math). By mentioning these greats in such a song he automatically welcomed himself into the club of the great ones.

Great stuff but there are better versions. This one is too fast. It sounds better a bit slower. You can develop it better.
