In recent time DC powerlines with around 1 MV and 10 KA = 10 GW are build. Especially in China. I was told that the DC to AC converter constist of hundreds thyristors in series, were one thyristor handles up to 6 KV. I would like to hear more about this theme. Are this thyristors are made from SiC or GaN ? And The AC to DC is a simple six diodes rectifier with perhaps 200 6KV diodes in series ? Also SiC / GaN ? Normal Si semiconductors reach some 100 Volts operation potential. But 6000 Volt ? How is it made ?
