      No offense meant here. I think there is a over abundance of swatching videos available.
      That said, I am switching from Daniel Smith to Van Gogh paints. Mainly I like how they mix better.

      @@ralphcrosby9622 All good, no offense taken! DS is one of my favourite brands and while I will continue to buy more of their more unique / specialty colours, I think the difference between DS and VG when it comes to the more basic colours is quite minimal, in which case I find Van Gogh to be very comparable at a fraction of the price :)

    Being a Schmincke- and a Daniel Smith-girl, I was hesitant to try the Van Goghs. But I am about to fall in Love. I appreciate all the single pigment colors. The price is still in a decent range and does not make me feel ripped off. And of course they behave just like their much more expensive siblings. For me they are a real discovery! Thank you for the review. Oh, and the animal paintings are just lovely!

    I have Van Gogh and I a 100% recommended it, the colors are so beautiful and rich, it’s easy to make them transparent with some water, it’s transparently is really beautiful it moves alone and dries so light, I don’t even mix so much for skin color, but I just add pure color mixed with water and it makes everything so pretty by itself. These are some magical paints and I really recommend them 👏

    First of all your artwork is lovely💗 It is a syle that I'll be working towards achieving someday! Looking at your colors and other videos about van gogh and comparing them with the pans I have, I'm very much in suspicion that the formulation in tubes and pans are quiet differen. I have been struggling with the VG pans for sure. They look gorgeous while applying however to a dull color. They don't move and flow as ecpected and gets muddy when mixed.. The binders and additives in the pans must be so much more to hold the pan in place that the end results suffers... Anybody else having problems with VG pans like me?

    • @WendyPaints
      @WendyPaints  Před rokem +1

      Thank you for the kind words! Looking at the photos of the VG pans online, they look to be extruded pans rather than hand-poured pans so it is likely that their formulation is different in the pans vs tubes. This is also the case with some other brands like Sennelier and Winsor and Newton (among others) where their pan formulation is different to their tubes. I would recommend purchasing the VG tubes and squeezing them into pans (also more economical this way). I recently squeezed all of my Van Gogh tubes into pans and they rewet beautifully. Hope that helps!

    Hello Wendy, I've watched your amazing video before but I can't help but always go back and see the colors you like and why you use them. I too love van Gogh paints and I have quite a few of them myself. I think I'll get the Pyrrol orange to fill the missing piece of my collection, since I have only one true single pigment orange paint in my mixed brand collection. It's not a cor I use that much, but it's always good to have a single pigment orange paint and high end student brand on top of it.

    Excellent review !!1 i think those dusk colors are not necessary ...even if you want those...all can can be achieved by buying one oxide black(PBK11) if you mix(PG7,pv23.PV19,&PY128 ) you can get dusk green,violet ,pink and yellow respectively

    • @WendyPaints
      @WendyPaints  Před 3 lety +1

      Thank you so much! Thank you for sharing your view as well on the dusk colours and it's great hearing other people's thoughts and perspectives! 😃 I agree while the dusk range is not necessary (but as is the case with most convenience colours), I find the Dusk Violet in particular to be a real gem especially as I use it in almost all of my paintings, so having it in a tube really saves me a lot of mixing time! That is definitely my benchmark for whether or not to pick up a convenience colour (same as Indigo, I can easily mix this myself with the two pigments but I use it often enough to pick it up 😊). The other 3 of the 4 from the dusk range, I would probably mix myself if I owned the Mars black pigment 😉

    The beginner should choose the best quality paper, for a start it can be Cezanne, Leonardo 600gr, Hannamule 60% cotton and he can also work on Koh I Nor colors of 5 e, he should learn everything about colors and above all I recommend him to learn to draw well ( sketches) e then let him try Koh I Nor professional colors (70e) or Van Gogh but 5 classes above are professional Koh I Nor in relation to VG e after if he wants he can take the best possible combination, Arches + Schmincke + Escoda brushes but the way to that is a minimum of 5 years of academic work.

      @@WendyPaints Well I have never bought tubes from another brand since I'm a beginner, I only have the 12 half pan set from Van Gogh, which is already in a palette. I have heard that inexpensive brands like Arteza crack like crazy and since these Van Gogh ones are pretty inexpensive I was wondering about the performance.

    • @WendyPaints
      @WendyPaints  Před 3 lety +2

      @@staceykarlafti2189 Ah I see, I haven't tried Arteza before and personally would not be keen to from the swatches I've seen of that brand as their watercolours seem to lean more opaque and look more like gouache compared to watercolour. Flaking off is definitely a sign of bad formulation and shouldn't happen at all. I have tried over a dozen different brands and have not experienced this flaking issue. I would say from my experience the Van Gogh is as good as artist quality paints despite the premium student label.
