- Something stirs deep in the woods, are you a bad enough dude to find out what it is?
CountryCide is a survival horror tinged prequel to long anticipated Doom Mod TrenchFoot. It may or may not cause you to require a change of trousers.

Man, if Countrycide is this great imagine how good TrenchFoot will be.
It's worth mentioning that this mod has co-op support.
I did my playthrough of it completely blind with a friend and it was great fun.
Also helps with getting through any "getting lost in the woods" moments...
Apart from the sewer maze, Countrycide is a great side story to Trench Foot. Maybe a bit stingy on the ammo.
As for horror mods? Underhell for Half-Life 2 is pretty great.
Lack of ammo can be used to increase the tension of the game.
Love how the forest look in this mod.
I remember seeing early footage of this mod on Alpha Beta Gamer’s channel a while back. The sound design of those screeching Eldritch Masses/Abominations is still just HAUNTING.
Oh boy, this looks like a real good Halloween adventure.
Wait, didn't Icarus cover this some time ago already? I could swear, I've learned of the Countrycide release from him.
Yeah, I'm thinking the same thing
I think you mean the mainline Trench Foot tc which is in the works. Countrycide is a side story within the same world
I kept waiting in the video for him to talk about what is new since his last video on this, when that didn't happen I rechecked the upload date (couple hours ago...) then the description, thinking it was a re-upload.
I don't think I watch any other channels that do Doom mod content, but I definitely already knew about this mod.
It is a Halloween mystery I guess.
I covered Trench Foot. Haven't covered this till now.
@@ICARUSLIV3S I see, thanks. Mandela effect strikes again, it appears.
This is such a marvel of a mod. Crafted with passion and love.
The sequel looks great too. I was hoping the creator would expand on it further.
Definitely a gem out there. ❤
Can't wait for the full release of trenchfoot
This game may be short, but man does it nail the hell out of the atmosphere.
Prequel to Trenchfoot I believe.
Countrycide is so well done it's almost crunchy.
I know it's silly but i like to think this is a spiritual prequel to Blood. A wild west gun slinger encountering a cult making massive sacrifices to an ancient entity feels a lot like how Caleb would encounter the Cabal in his game.
More like a Warhammer fantasy sequel imo.
The developer has said both countryside and trenchfoot are his take on the Warhammer 40k universe. They wanted to do a 40k mod but where afraid of GW coming down on them and so Trenchfoot and countryside came from that.
@@AnubisX1could definitely be a feudal world
@@AnubisX1 I WILL ENDURE 1000 deaths BEFORE I yield
Countrycide is basically the prequel to Trenchfoot.
I can't wait for this to be released! Been following this fucker since the alpha came out
Favourite horror mods? Ashes 2063 and Afterglow. Especially Afterglow. That Botanical Garden still sends the shivers down my spine.
Survival horror more like. I think
Sending love from across the pond. Great content as always.
Keep it up, but don't burn yourself out. Blessings to you and your family.
Glad you covered this one finally! The scares in countrycide are great and perfect for Halloween season.
Glad to see doom mod madness is still going strong! Keep ‘em coming!! Man you won’t believe how much of a help this is to build my library of doom mods :)
Wow this seems like it could have it's own standalone release and surpass DUSK in every aspect. I'm shocked how immersive and cool this mod is. I need a full release of this immediately!
This is actually a prequel to ANOTHER survival horror mod, Trench Foot! And yeah honestly both could be separate releases sold on Steam and I wouldn't mind at all.
DUSK was so aggressively mid like its brown texture palette. No hate but I just think it was overhyped. Cultic and forgive me father easily did boom shoot better.
@@nangsanbhalangblah333I mean, both of those games came out years after Dusk. Being better than Dusk is kind of a baseline requirement.
Dusk is so overrated
Dusk came out years after Doom 1 & 2, Quake and it's far inferior@@TheTwinkelminkelson
I wonder if they'll release more or these side wads while they work for the main Trench Foot mod.
Right now the guys are working on finishing the main mod which is a pretty big initial chapter with more maps. Once that's done we're open to doing more spin-offs.
Stuff like this makes me wish i was intelligent enough to install Doom mods lol.
@@collinb.8542 Do you mean install, like to play these mods or do you mean making mods? Cus making a mod in doom takes a little work true, but installing one to play is not that complicated
@@nangsanbhalangblah333 I mean just playing one. I grew up without technology for the most part and only in the last year or so have procured a computer cause of my new job. I think that I actually might be able to figure it out though I was rooting around on my computer yesterday and have seen what I need to do to mod it I think.
@@collinb.8542 Its really easy. All you need is the current version of GZDoom, a Doom 2 wad file, and the wad you want to play. Then you put the Doom 2 wad file into the GZDoom folder, then drag and drop the wad onto the GZDoom Icon. Done.
I did this game after seeing the first 5 min of this game. Took me about an hour to clear the mission on the UV difficulty. The middle of the game was a lot of suffering for ammo. The end game was a slog but so much fun.
This mod is something else, a bit short, but a blast. The sprites are awesome, but the atmosphere and darkness is amazing.
Hurt me Plenty felt like the right skill level for a good time. Ammo was tight, but I always ended up having enough without resorting to melee. Though I was keenly aware I spent all of my shells in the first house, but thankfully not all my bullets. But for THAT thing...yeah, that's fine. It can have all the shotgun shells I have.
So my question is regarding both Trenchfoot and Countrycide: are these in the Warhammer 40 universe? A lot of times it sure seems so.
Probably so much so they have to beware the gaze of Games Workshop.
"Dieselpunk" is another word I have heard it described.
@@Puffie40 Yes, I heard that too. Also, I'm not saying that as a negative, I love 40K. It just seemed like it was straight out of it. Some long abandoned agriworld etc.
Inspired by but different universe and lore (Knight’s Templar conquered and guided the world) both to avoid GW bs as a confirmed reason and for more creative freedom as a unofficial but likely second reason.
Great mod! Love how the Doom engine can still crank out exciting gameplay in 2023!
The geniuses at Id discovered the gold mine of user made content long before ppl stuck their radars into it. It's awe inspiring in a way.
I played this on a stream for some friends and people new-ish to Doom mods. They couldn't believe this was a Doom mod and their minds were blown. The atmosphere, the gunplay, the visuals and sounds. I got people hooked on Doom modding now.
10/10 Would play again.
I played this on my Android phone and, mercifully, somehow the mod allowed me to use my Automap. That did a LOT to save me from throwing my phone against a wall out of frustration with the map design.
guess you took my suggestion of this game to mind until the right moment
I didnt even make it to the catacombs yet in this, but Im so ready for TRENCHFOOT to release! I love the way it looks and sounds, and this mod was good for the meantime!
Glad to see my suggestion for you to pick this up has given us an actual treat~
Definitely looks like the kind of game I should play late at night when I'm all alone and with the lights off.
This is hard as balls. Gonna have to knock the difficulty down a notch I think.
The sound design on this mod is just chefs kiss
Holy smokes this mod so nails the enviroments :o
This looks terrific! Thanks Icarus 🔥🔥
Crazy that they made the enemies be protestants
the house scared the frick out of me
I can think of a couple of good spooky wads to play. Shadows of the Nightmare Realm is a collection of four maps that takes place after the main games, in which eldritch gods attack Doom guy through his dreams. Each map is a different dream so health, weapons and ammunition are not carried over. There is also a secret map, but it was some early project of the mod's author and isn't in any way connected to the rest of the maps. The maps are gothic themed with a suitably atmospheric soundtrack.
Beneath Phobos Lab #5 is a single, though decently sized map with a horror theme. You are sent to investigate why a UAC research facility on Phobos went silent months ago, and are greeted with a seemingly empty facility save for the corpses strewn about the entrance. Lighting plays a major role in this map, and you will often have to look for a switch to turn the lights on to help you see better, though strictly speaking you could get by without doing so. This map also features a suitable soundtrack, although it can potentially get a bit repetitive due to how short it is.
Both of these maps can be found in the Doomworld forums.
Well done getting through this. Looked intense.
Oh man, this was giving me Trench Foot vibes. No wonder.
Speaking of horror mods. Remember the (in)famous Lilith? I've recently stumbled upon something that draws some inspiration from it, but turns out to be much more structured and thought-out thing as a game rather than an abstract art performance. It's called "DEFY THE OMPHALOS", a mod with a fairly short custom campaign that aims to besically freak you out with some normal DooM mechanics turned inside out and paired with some cool glitchy visuals.
4:25 was about the time I said, “Aw hell naw” and went running for the exit.
I will never look at a countryside the same again 🥺
If you can discern between real life and a doom mod, maybe you shouldnt be allowed to play videogames
@@Mydtys darn forgot cant make jokes on the internet
So warhammer Fantasy vibes
It's like halfway between WH Fantasy and 40K. It's like Imperial Inquisitors dropped into an Agriworld.
@@varyagace i love it
This is considered a prequel to the doom mod Trench Foot, which has a ton of Siege of Vrakks references.
Blair Witch - The Doom Mod.
Stopped watching after seeing the interior of the house and I had to play it for myself. Shit was rad.
Where you goin', city-boy?
Lore of Enter The Survival Horror Of COUNTRYCIDE - Doom Mod Madness momentum 100
Another important criticism I'd add to this is that the audio balancing on the monster's screeches are so loud that they were almost deafening at 15 percent in-game volume. Threw my headphones off at the first time playing. Otherwise great mod here.
This looks just as INSANE as Siren mod and Ashes 2063 mod. Honestly, doom modders outdid themselves, they literally EVOLVED with their modding. I am shocked how good these mods/standalone games are. If these somehow existed in 90's (I know its impossible but imagine) gamers would creampie themselves SO HARD.
Love survival horror. Will definitely check this out
HA! I really enjoyed this one
Played on handheld on UV, but I also think I found all the secrets.
Speaking of horror; City of the Damned: Apocalypse just got a remake, released a couple of days ago, on Halloween. And it's every bit as improved over the original. Interested in trying that one ? It's really good.
Now something like thus be perfect for the horror game "Darkwood" fsp be wild and scary lol
ooh, cozy horror 😊
Have you played the *Haunted Mansion* Doom mod? It’s pretty cool!
Is there any way to escape what's at 4:25? I feel like the mod traps you on that floor until its dealt with.
Blasted it with all the holy lead I could. It should fade and let you out eventually
MyHouse doom wad (oops you have played that my bad lol)
The guns bother me in this and trenchfoot. you get the feeling its a sort of WW2 esthetic retro futurism judging by the Templar body armor and enemie cyborg soldiers that shoot lasers at you. I'm surprised they werent more inventive with the revolver but i realise the single round shotgun makes sense in countrycide as youve picked in up from cultist who used to be farmers.
i never realized that was Andy Richter lmao
Will the sequel be Countryroad, where you go home, to the place you belong?
You should Try SIREN total conversion mod.
Don't mention the war!
cool mod thanks must try.
Can someone help me about this doom mod i might have seen on this channel. All i remember is you had a pistol that when empty you could throw the mag as a grenade. Potentially this was a class mod too and the class was an engineer. I think the pistol was yellow with black lines like a danger symbol.
the sewer was too dark its impossible to see where that guy on the upper level is so i gave up and deleted it. It looks good tho :>
I actually get Hedon vibes from it 🤔
I think the sword shouldn't be as weak as it is. I think it should inflict more damage than it should, it looks to me that the sword needs to be an improvement over sticks and harsh language.
Have you ever heard about God Complex mod? It's pretty interesting
I think this templar is fake...
I mean, what kind of templar is shit at melee combat?
A fake one, that's who...
Say @Icarus, do you use your twitch stream footage for these videos, or re-record? Asking as a fellow creator.
As far as I remember, the world of Countrycide / Trench Foot is this ripoff Warhammer 40k world with WW1 aesthetic and a dose of Imperial/Nazi German designs (mostly picked from similarly inspired Deathkorps of Krieg from 40k), with the protagonist being a servant to a very "Imperium of Man" themed Caliphate, I believe. This episode is visually impressive, but the critique in this video is on point. It's very high production, but sometimes to the point of being kinda obstructive.
Suggest some other cool horror mods?
Well how about Cry of fear then? 😏
Hello. Can you make a video review of my mod "Lost in Darkness"? This is the Survival Horror genre. I think he deserves your attention
I’m not gonna lie this mod was really underwhelming with enemies being way too bullet-spongy
Hello there. Can I suggest a mod for streams
eviews?
💀👍😊
I forget if you tried Anatomy by Kitty Horrorshow at all. Less FPS, more atmospheric 'a gun wouldn't help me here' first person horror. But, well. If you don't like repetition if you don't like repetition if you don't like repetition if you don't like repetition maaaybe pass on it.
Tried it, got lost at the beginning of the first level because no automap. Pass.

Good art, but the gameplay is straight shitty. Shotgun cannot kill ordinary grunts in one hit on medium difficulty, which in any game is a crime against humanity. You permanently cannot see where to go, because it is either too dark or too much clutter on the map. Sound is VERY distastefully balanced, that tentacle monster screams so loud that I almost turned down the sound and still feel the table vibrate. I would recommend developers to take their beautiful sprites and reinsert them into another, actually good game. This one will not do.
This is such a kick arse little horror package. Loved it
Tried playing this but got sick of constantly getting stuck on geometry in small rooms while trying to avoid getting shot. Too bad, it had great atmosphere.
