    Great explanation on the grading outside of plans. 9/10 times it’s future phase and if you rely on gps you’ll deep dive on a partial swell etc. Turn it off and grade to the fall, make it look good. GPS is awesome for finish cut, near design limits you have to make it work.

      Thanks for the feedback! A lot of people don't understand that GPS doesn't think for you. Is it a tool that helps? Yes. Does it make a dozer operator out of a stick puller? Hell no.

    Technology is definitely making things a lot easier, when it comes to heavy equipment. The real old timers, will be so lost, trying to run the equipment we have now. Great video my man.

    • @DieselandIron
      @DieselandIron  Před 2 lety +1

      Thanks Ronnie! You definitely have to learn new skills to stay current on the new machines. So many old timers don't want to get into the menus to change settings on the machine. That is what is slowly making them obsolete. You've got to change with the technology.

    Great video! Technology has come a long way in the construction and agriculture industry. High schools need to be preparing those non college bound students for trade work. Even machinist have automated computer controlled systems. These kids need to be getting a foundation to prepare them for the work force

    • @DieselandIron
      @DieselandIron  Před 2 lety +2

      It astounds me the technology on machines these days. I have a buddy that does drain tile for farm fields. The survey tools on the machine along with the GPS to install the tile are crazy. You have to get an education before you even fire up the machine. I agree, schools need to be prepping kids for this stuff.

    How does it know it's elevation? Does it have a flasher for a survey laser or use something else?

    • @DieselandIron
      @DieselandIron  Před rokem

      The base station communicates with the machine and gives it the information to determine it's location and elevation.

    How far can u work from the base station before u have to move it or get a repeater ?

    • @DieselandIron
      @DieselandIron  Před rokem

      It depends on a number of conditions. If you have a lot of trees on site your distance will be significantly limited. General rule of thumb a base station is good for about 1-2 miles of range if I remember correctly

    Does it come standard on a rental unit DOZER D5K LGP OROPS / D3 LGP OROPS

    • @DieselandIron
      @DieselandIron  Před 11 měsíci

      No. Machine control will always be an add on feature that costs extra money. You'll also need to invest in a base station and rover for the GPS to work in the dozer. CAD files will need to be converted over to surface files and loaded into your machine so the dozer knows where it is and what the ground should be doing. GPS is a very involved process. You can't just rent a dozer and go hog wild with GPS.

  • @cameronlowe8517
    @cameronlowe8517 Před 2 lety

    How do you get that profile for the job created?

    • @DieselandIron
      @DieselandIron  Před 2 lety

      Depending on the survey firm, some are capable of creating the GPS files in house from the CAD drawings. If they are unable to convert them there are services all over that can take the CAD files and turn them into GPS files. Generally costs around $200-500.

    sorry I know I am late but cant you just use snap to grade instead of latch to grade on gps menu that way your autos will always try to engage even if you have way to much to cut?

    • @DieselandIron
      @DieselandIron  Před rokem

      I don't really understand the question. If you have auto engaged then the machine will always try to push down to grade as long as you are within range.

    • @devinbarnes7891
      @devinbarnes7891 Před rokem

      @@DieselandIron sorry it must just be my system but if I have snap and latch one will only let autos engage when you’re like 1ft off other will always try to find grade no matter how much cut you have if that makes any sense

    • @DieselandIron
      @DieselandIron  Před rokem +1

      @@devinbarnes7891 you should really be free handing until you get with a couple of tenths of grade. Your brain is much better at bulking dirt than the automatics and when you are trying to do that big of a cut the automatics aren't accurate and will gouge. I recommend running in manual until you are within a couple of tenths, then switch over.

    • @devinbarnes7891

      @@DieselandIron sorry late response yea ofc It was just something you said in you're in video that the gps wont be able to turn on tell you're close to grade like you're suppose to be my smart ass was just saying if you wanted to can switch from snap or latch to grade and no matter how much cut you have left the autos will still try to dig sorry if I am confusing you lol.

    If someone wanted to learn to operate dozers, where would one start? Assuming you don't know anyone or any contractors.

    • @DieselandIron
      @DieselandIron  Před 2 lety +1

      You can rent one if you don't mind spending some cash and you've got a place to run it. Outside of that the best way to learn is to hire in at a company and work yourself into a seat.
