Matt: "Hey Arne, do you want..."
Arne: "Yes."
That's pretty much how it went. HA!
Hi Matt.. it's Jack from riverdalespeed. You can use our spring kit in a LT series engine. If you need another spring kit don't hesitate to contact me. Jack
Very happy to be the recipient of whatever combo we come up with. Excited to see if you can get that 6L80 working in there!
I'm excited to see the 6l80 portion of this! I wanna build an LS swap car but want the 6 speed
This is basically new era of sloppy. Be still my heart.
Haha!... Loved the aVe reference. You guys working together on something would be awesome.
Badass bro! I have an 85 ltd also. Bought it with swap parts and need to throw it together! Just seen your address is in bath! I was on the millennium pipeline project in that area for 15 months. Back around 2008. I enjoyed it! We went to some alcohol front engine drags up in a hill around Binghamton iirc.
NIce !
I just did last winter LT1&8spd conversion to 1966 Canadian Pontiac parisienne with 2017 camaro hardness and modules (Needs Engine-, Trans-, FPCM, Body-, Data- modules and shifter&steering wheel to everything get working...
This holley set will save you many hours...
The gear ratios on the 6 speed are delicious it's like having 4.30 gears behind a 4l80 with a 3 27. This is why new automatic cars and full size trucks are so God damn fast. I wanted to put a 6l80/90 behind my last l92 but pussed out the deeper I dug.
Matt, I believe the new L83 engines need to run the factory specific alternator due to charging designs to that specific motor. Check out Jkls engine swaps he's done a bunch of these engines into the new jeeps and gives great details of charging systems cooling etc... glad you are doing this build👍
I've used an electric steering from a Chevy cobalt in my crown vic, works great
Box top fox, aVe pixies and vice grip garage hand gestures. This was great!
It’s awesome to finally have manufacturers collaborating with the public. Projects like this push them improve their products and answer questions for people that could never afford to buy things without knowing they work with their stuff. It’s only a matter of time before all of the aftermarket computers have a CAN model as an option. They have no choice if they want to be relevant in the modern car arena.
If anyone can make all that work together it's you Matt. You are the one who blazes the trail for everyone else, keep up the good work.
I lol'd when I saw your Stihl chainsaw I assume that was for last Tuesday storm? I'm in Lower Bucks county and I'm still cutting up trees that came down on my property from that tornado...
Love the pioneering. People will look back on this when everything is controlled by a standalone and all the build details are hashed out. Truly paving the way bud.
I've been waiting for GenV support for years. Glad it's finally here with the TermX.
Picking up my L96/6l90e complete pull out today. Im nervous but pumped. Hopefully the 6l90 is not going to be a mistake. I was looking for a 4l80 when I found this complete package
Take a hard look at the fuel and brake lines. My dad had an 86 LTD and they totally rusted out.
I'm glad your doing all the hard work for Holley so we can have plug an play 4 the 6L80e.
This is going to be incredible. The electronic pioneering ideas make my brain hurt with amazement and joy.
So excited about this Matt!! That 6-speed tuning stuff is a little tricky, so I'm hoping to learn some stuff from you about it as you go along and learn. :)
That's gonna be sick. I Love the LTD Pursuit edition.
It would be great to get a plug and play aftermarket solution that can work the 6l80 with the holley
You can PWM control the alternator with the Holley. Get in touch with me, I also have done the electronic steering in my Cougar...and it is speed sensitive, using Toyota hardware. I like what you're doing with this build.
Look I to the Toyota MR2 Spyder electric steering pump. It seems it's the go-to for swapping.
The 32% lobe only really needed when you go a boosted application. Stock lobe setup will will make plenty of power even with out the 32% lobe
If it was produced in November 85, it's probably an 86 MY.
I was gonna say the same.
I’m so excited for this
LT’s baby! Sloppy: The Next Generation, make it so!
Thanks for the video today Matt from Melbourne Australia 🇦🇺
DEFINITELY looking forward to this one.
Can’t wait to see the trans dialed in with that L83.
Saturn View also has electric steering and there is a guy on eBay who makes a variable speed control for it so you can adjust the input in the fly, would be perfect for light steering when attacking corners and heavy steering for regular cruising.
Hell yeah buddy! 6L80E for the win!!! I want to do this in my 79 C20!
Very excited to see this build! Also make sure you tighten the chain on that chainsaw before you use it... Just saying it because I care, that's one thing that should not be sloppy :P
Only in the Sloppy garage would a chainsaw be a prominent object
That chainsaw does look conspicuous.
Shit should go together in no time with that.
That’s a cool project, guys. I’m sure that it will come together with ease! Maybe.
Questions about the 4l60e:
- how was it rebuilt (ie. Guts and such), and was it’s original purpose to be used as the engine wouldn’t push more than 400hp/stock-ish power?
I have a couple of disassembled 4l60e’s (did it for fun) and would like to rebuild them to something worthwhile, or simply pitch them.
Good luck!
Jus rebuild'm w/ basic upgrades & sell'm to some other suckers. Then go buy urself an 80e or something else worthwhile, the 60s aren't worth the headaches
I have a L83 I'm going to swap into my 39 ford , I 'm seeing History repeat it's self Chevy motors swaped into old ford's like they did in the 50's
I love that your not a 1 trick pony. So many ideas just waiting to go to use on some random project. Usually the “next” project hhahaha.🤙
I'm swapping an l83 to a jeep jku and need to find a canbus module to get gm and Mopar to work together. I know about motech but thats big$$.
Pardon my ignorance, but why couldn't a guy just use the stock PCM?
I worked at GM developing the L84/L87s for a short time, and they used a stock modified ECM. A lot of tuning was required to use it when not in a vehicle, but that seems relatively simple compared to piggybacking different systems and trying to make them communicate.
That thing is gonna be badass
I would look into hydro-electric pumps. For example: Toyota mr2 pump. It’s pretty much a pump and electric motor in one that you can mount wherever. There’s like 20+ different cars you’ll find them in though. I believe there’s also an electric steering shaft that guys swap in. I could be wrong but I think it’s out of a van. Just throwing more options out there
Issue is it still takes up room, still need fluid and custom lines made, etc, I’ve seen them but the electric columns are much more attractive and don’t take up any space in old cars like this and I’ve always wanted to do one
Sloppy Mechanics, I’m sure whatever you choose, it’ll be cool.
This will be a sick tire fryer once the sloppy touches are complete.
Use a Saturn/ cobalt electric power steering. its just a motor that goes inline with the shaft
Wonder if this has been used in a SN95?
On the steering column, on Stangnet CarMichael Angelo fitted a toyota EPAS into his Mercury Zephyr. Look for 1978 Mercury Cyclone in the 79-95 mustang section
Very cool
Dude! Yes the electric steering!
This is gonna be cool.
Could also try a Volvo or Mini Cooper electric power steering pump.
Would love to see if you can get the 6l80 to work with the Holley. Maybe it will open things up for the 10L90 down the road.
Hey like 2017 camry has a electric power steering column, but it has the american style 36 spline 48 pitch spline on the lower U joint. It may just plug right into the foxbody rack. Just a heads up.
Supposedly the newer 8.8 are different and way stronger, just a heads up! The drop out assemblies are pretty cheap on eBay too!
Getting all the pixies to communicate is probably the biggest hurdle......cause they're going to try to bumblefork at every turn........is the sthil for clearance issues?....asking for a friend
I am very interested in making a holley to gm can translator. Would make swalping the colorados/newer cars waaayy easier if you want to keep stock functional cluster/hvac ect.
I see the chainsaw on the floor. Ready to make it fit huh
Nice AvE reference
Was the Stihl for a ZIPTIESANDBIASPLIES unboxing? What did I miss?
Matt, if you ever decide to IRS a fox hit me up. I have it in my fox and I'll help however I can.
This is cool and all but we all want to know how your incorporating that chainsaw into the build?
Surely if the stock computer can run the 6l80e it can excite the 5th gen alt too? I believe it's a pwm type deal maybe
What happened to the new edge? Was getting excited to see a full tube chassis build from the local raccoon!
Still happening, we talked about it in the one mail time video. Let a friend borrow it for a while who got stuck in a shitty car situation so gunna do this quick and continue on with other things while collecting more parts for new edge
Sloppy Mechanics Ohhh word! Right on brother!
Is the Stihl saw to cut the floor out for said trans? Now THAT would be the sloppy way! I was under the impression the 6l80e was not a very robust unit???
I think it's more of a tuning issue
Hmmmm... I'm interested to see the results...
I’ve been waiting for someone to try the di stuff. I have a Maggie 2300 kit from my 17 Silverado sitting in the garage. Thought I would have to go port injected conversion on it until Holley finally released this new box. They had some on Copo Camaros years ago. Curious to see how it works with an aftermarket non vvt cam with stock fuel lobe. Looks like I can just turn vvt off in the software. I want to do a 5.3 drop in piston rod setup with a cam to hit 450 on motor and then add 12-15psi with the 2300 to get over 700 flywheel and obviously an upgraded fuel system to use E. Please do some rabbit hole videos on the tuning. Some funny talk in the Holley guide about max injection pressure but then says don’t touch it and injection timing is locked. Seems kinda geared at what you’re doing with stock engines. Don’t think I saw much in the guide about the low pressure fuel system either, what’s the plan there? 6l80 is cool just because, but never thought they shifted great. 8 and 10 speeds are a different story. Also can you tell your guy at Holley the factory installed fuse on the efi power harness is cool but on the wrong end to protect anything but the Holley box. The unfused part of it can short out and burn the whole car down. They did it so you can cut the harness off, but it’s still wrong.
Holley needs to make a turbo intake for these motors with a fuel injector setup for boost!
My Favorite Foxbody!
I can't wait to see you use that Stihl chainsaw on the build! Please don't edit that part out!
Epic.
awesome
Brain just exploded !
I run a 4:56 with my 6l90e. 29” tire. Did a 4l60 swap to a built 6l90e. FTI converter
what controller?
merim123 stock e38 computer. The 6l80 and 90 only require 5 wires to tap into harness
12 volt continuous. 12 volt keyed. Ground and cam high and cam low.
You can tune the whole trans with HP tuners.
Call jim Miller at Zero gravity performance. You can send him your ecu and he’ll tune the trans for you and send back it back to you.
Really nice guy and helpful
The older Ford Escape has an electric ps column. Don’t know if anyone uses them.
Old and busted with the new hotness
Jegs wheely boi for a small block. $24. Cut off the forward tab on each side. Bolts to an ls perfectly. I have 3 of them. For $24 delivered it isn't worth building one.
Feels like og sloppy days
Volvo has a nice electric power steering setup thats super easy to do.
Comes with Volvo pricing tho
Wow. Its my worst nightmare. Making computers talk to each other........Major PIA. Frankly I suck at it and dont have the patience. Usually before the ECM,TCM,BCM,EBCM start being happy with each other I have smashed them all into millions of pieces out of frustration........A user friendly CAN translator box is in of dire need for the modern non I.T. trained hot rodder. Please make it work.
4L-60E 4L-80 can be made to shift full manual, no computer
Where does the chain saw fit into the plan?
Are there spacers used for the front wheels to fit?
Manual valve body and call it a day ❤️
👍
so, is the chainsaw for the fabwork or the play area??
Does Holley not want to eventually integrate 6l80 control? That seems like it would be the most straightforward and, since it seems bound to happen anyway, would make the stock ECU/CAN converter obsolete when they do.
Heres the issue people don't understand. Even if you make the Holley talk to the 6L80E, you still have to use HP Tuners to tune the TCM thats internal to the 6L80E. Thats why it's such a complicated deal. The TCM is looking for a RPM and Torque input from the ECM, the holley has no Torque output. There is a converter box already out there for around $850-900 that you can probably hook to a Holley and go on, Just haven't seen anyone try it yet.
I’m a master Toyota tech by trade let me know if you need any wiring schematics on the power steering.
not gonna flop a cam in while its sitting in the trailer?
Cam screws up vvt and injection timing and more and they only have the stock cam characteristics now
Building cannonball cars now?
Bernie lomax?
Wouldn't a manufacturing date of 11/85 be a 1986 model?
I'm confused as to where the chainsaw fits in.
But... what turbo(s) will be used ?
Not immediately, unsure if fueling situation and limits with stock pump lobe
Sloppy Mechanics unfortunately not much. But considering the owner, he can grab a dominator when holley adds it and then? Sky is the limit with duel fuel ! I like the stock fuel lobe/pump/injectors then some snake eater 1500’s on top ! On the fiesta and focus’s they actually blend super well with an old school “split second controller” running 4 port injectors. That 6L80e is where my interest is, I’d been beating companies up trying to get a 6R80 adaptor setup for LS’s lol.
I mean obviously boost=better, but I bet that thing will rip NA once it's done.
Have you ever LS swapped a G-Body?
Yes
Who makes the best mount kits for a G Body? Who do you recommend?
Did you say the Holley cab control the 6l80e? Can you give me the part number for the Holley?
Re watch the video.
Matt I tried to get a few people on board for exactly this an explained the same things.
I tried for 8l90 and for 6l80. I'm hopefully going to do something very similar in my 6l80 vette.
If you can help me get in contact with someone from holley to do it in my vette please let me know
I will dm you on instagram
That 6 speed don't like big power
Nothing about this isn't interesting. Great ideas
11/85 should be 86 model year
First!
Matt I would like to say thank you for all the hard work on each and every project. The information you provide on your videos is second to none. Building a turbo chevy truck is a dream of mine. I haven't kept up with the channel in a year or so because I stay busy most of the time. This notification popped up and I just had to watch. You give average diy's confidence to tackle project's outside of their comfort zone. Watching you build the turbo colorado made me more comfortable repairing the head gaskets in my 5.3.. Stay safe. Again THANK YOU for all you do.
