The baklava shop owner is such a great guy. His name is Ramzan. Always puts a smile on others faces. He’s a great example as to why we should support the local businesses. The baklavas are 10/10 and you can’t tell he works hard and enjoys what he does.
Ive been through Govanhill many times and have not once felt threatened (just personal experience). Its a vibrant place with a good buzz, some good bars / restaurants / cafes etc possibly even on the edge of becoming gentrified - although has its issues with litter etc and to my understanding issues with hidden crimes possibly.
Lived in Govanhill in 1985, then came back to live in Govanhill in 2014. It was a traditional wee town then, every kind of shop on your doorstep, choice of banks. Now every shop is a butchers or fruiterer. Homes more expensive but not much to look at outside.
@@raymondhewitt everyone knows it that’s why the private let’s are so high if you have no friends and a small family with no old money you will always live in poverty fact
used to stay in govanhill was a nice little area then as u mentioned Romanian street gangs.... Allison street is the worst part of govanhill, theres nice parts that do it justice tho.
born & bred in the gorbals 1954 i know every inch of GH and it is now a shithole compared to the old days .there are photos in the sinclair library of GH from the 70s the place was spotless as were the shops
Govan housing association did a survey? Do you mean Govanhill Housing Association. The garage wasn’t set on fire there was an accident. That flat with the shutters is being compulsory purchased. Most people are really nice its not the case that” there are still some nice people”. Why are you talking about Romanian street gangs why don’t you ask her instead of implying something dodgy?
Lived on Queens Drive for 10 years, slice of Paris in Glasgow with Beirut in my back garden
What was that like?
@@raymondhewitt Loved it, sold the flat for a fortune and moved to Copenhagen 👌🏻
I hope the weather’s better than here!
@@raymondhewitt almost everything is better, apart from currys and patter!!
Used to be a really upmarket area donkey yrs ago shame whats happened to it.
I’ve heard a few people say that…
@@raymondhewitt Govanhill has never been an upmarket area.

I think you’re right, most of it is pretty decent but there’s a couple of streets I wouldn’t walk down at night time
Slažem se sa mišljenjem da se oni neće uklopiti i biće sve dobro dok ne počnu da traže "svoja prava"

Could be worse, every other shop could be a bookies or a vape shop.

Half of this is in crosshill not govanhill!!

@@raymondhewitt ummmm no

@@raymondhewitt everything changes at Langside Road and Allison street or if you’re selling a house the border is movable and always has been

Grew up in Govanhill early 80’s, this is not Govanhill.
Not the Govanhill you once knew?
@@raymondhewittI actually saw the flat I lived in at the beginning. I went to Victoria Primary in Govanhill, which has been razed since…
Govanhill is a Safe Area
Worse Areas in Glasgow
It feels some people are really Healthy and others are Dying both live side by side
Its Depressing
Nicola sturgeons constituency,, it shows she cares about the indiginous people...
If there’s 8 people in a two bedroom flat paying five hundred a month and working for food there’s one one winner
I don’t think there’s a winner in that situation, sad but there’s definitely cases like that I’m sure

Govanhill Housing Association*
Ethnic slum
I think it’s just a few of the streets to be honest… the more I read about it there’s a few landlords there that are really bringing the area down
Terrible clickbait title and poorly researched commentary.
