In our latest Football Daily: Explained we are attempting to get our heads around UEFA’s new creation; the Europa Conference League!
Set to run between 2021 and 2024, the new tournament is set to exist below the Champions League and Europa League, and provide clubs from smaller UEFA association members with their moment to enjoy football on the continent!
In this video we run through how the new tournament will operate, who you can exist to see in it next season, and how the Europa League has changed as a result! We look at the benefits for smaller footballing nations like Northern Ireland, but examine the risks for the likes of FC Basel in Switzerland, and those knocking on the door of Europa League football.
And finally we examine whether or not the big club sides will even take it seriously, and whether the UEFA Europa Conference League can survive if they don’t!

They would still be european winners, the best of the worse and deserve a chance to play in the cl. @@jonsoler3648 what do you think about the idea of returning cup winners cup competition, as the 4th european turnament where all main cup winners will enter the competition. it would be a paralel competition meaning that you can play in both cl/el and cwc. However because there is no space in the calender all cup winners will not play in the domestic cup next season. Bassically a competition replaces another. Cup winners will no longer enter europa league, those will enter as 5th/6th etc
will be direct k0 starting from last 32(not seeded would be more exciting), before that qualifiers. winners of this cup will get into champions league directly, be involved in the supercup and participate again next season as title holders. So each country has 1 entry, and roster changes every year, except winners( where the country will have 2 entry, they and the next cup winner). Bassically you can have neither barca or real playing the copa del rey because both play in cwc, one as title holder and one as the previous copa del rey winner.
The quality of the turnament will be between cl/el and have certain charisma because all participants are actually winners. Has prestige because in order to win it you need to win another competition. It will also boost the domestic cups.
In theory you can have Barcelona, Chelsea, Bayern, Psg, Porto, Juventus, Ajax, real madrid (title holder) in the quarters wich is a champions league mirror. This means more european battles between giants wich many want, and more money, though not with superleague idea

As a Shamrock Rovers fan I welcome this. A League of Ireland team has qualified for the Europa League 3 times in the last 10 years, Shamrock Rovers in 2011/2012, and Dundalk twice in 2016/2017 and 2020/2021. Each time was a huge deal for Irish football.
Now Shamrock Rovers, who went undefeated to win the LOI in 2020, will have 2 safety nets rather than 1 to get into the group stages. Win two ties in Europe and we're in at least the UECL groups. Being in a separate champions path will help (like Dundalk last year who drew Inter Escaldes, Sheriff Tiraspol and Klaksvíkar Íttrótorfelag to get to the groups of the Europa).
Dundalk, who finished 3rd in the LOI last year, could also have something to say this year. They have brought in lots of decent players from abroad and look like they might be beginning to click. Same with Sligo Rovers who scraped 4th spot last year. They are in good form at the moment and 2nd in the league. I don't hold much hope for Bohemians (2nd last year in LOI) or Longford Town (4th in second tier and promoted through the play offs. I have no idea why they're in it this year). Bohemians have no consistency at all this year and Longford are second last at the time of writing.
Many LOI clubs budget for runs in Europe but can lead to their demise (look at Waterford and Cork City in recent years). Hopefully this will give other clubs in similar leagues around Europe a chance in a continental competition

Could give them sporadic experience at senior level, which would not only help development, but also show their clubs if they are ready for regular senior football, whether that's on loan or in their first team.

Well done video. Pretty much spot-on. Only one mistake in there that I will point out, especially after Villarreal indeed finished seventh and won the EL. Since Villarreal won the EL and finished in the ECL spot, no Spanish team replaces them in the ECL. Thus, Celta de Vigo will not replace the Yellow Submarines. However, it is worth noting that since UEFA are looking at banning Real Madrid and/or Barcelona, it is possible that Spain end up with an ECL spot. This would then go to Celta de Vigo or Granada, depending on how many clubs get banned. This scenario would mean that Spain would get one less EL spot. Only time will tell, but assuming there's no ban, Spain, as things stand, would not have a spot in the inaugural ECL GS

Yeah it might not fill up the emirates or white hart lane but it 100% will fill up the stadiums here in these smaller nations. This will make the league more attractive as you have a better chance of making it in Europe meaning that leagues such as the Maltese league can attract better players and more investors giving us the chance to have a stronger league and hopefully a stronger national team. Us minnow league love these kind of tournament even the nations league. The nations league was a fantastic idea and helped my country get better overall. Obviously won't happen because viewership would plummet, but the idea of giving teams from lower leagues like Denmark, Austria, Hungary, etc. an actual shot at winning a major European tournament sounds really exciting. Also allows big clubs to see how obscure players from lower leagues fair in big stages. I am totally in favor of the Conference league. The best way to go about it would have been keep everyhting the same for UCL and UEL and just add a third division. With the two finalists getting a spot in the next years UEL.

Talking about Switzerland, yes they may have less money guaranteed but their chances of winning a trophy are way greater.
Morover I'm not sure the prize money will be so much low.
You have to consider that UEFA will not give prizes to 16 teams in EL group stage and almost all EL preliminary rounds are scrapped so they will save a lot of money from there.
