- Giving a dog as a Christmas gift was the perfect Christmas surprise for two young kids. Their reaction is genuine and heartfelt. This dachshund, aka a weiner dog named Coco, was a very pleasant surprise for this happy family.

Me and my 3 siblings were given a dog when I was 12, and they were 13, 10 and 7. And we still have him today. Me and the younger two absolutely adore him, even in his old age! (we rescued him and he is now roughly about 12). He sleeps on my bed most nights and we all fuss over him when he's poorly, as he's been a bit under the weather a lot recently. :( he's my best friend and most children are really good when it comes to taking care of a pet :) x

For all of you acting like getting a dog as a present is a bad thing, it's not. They're literally in the box for, like, three seconds because the parents make sure to put them in right before the kids come in to open the present. Also, it doesn't hurt the dog that the girls are excited to get a puppy! He may be a little shaken, but as long as he gets into a good family, that's all that matters. That's how I got my old dog, Pooka, and she was my best friend for eleven wonderful years!

I been watching so much 'Puppy for christmas!' vids and now im crying :')
No offence but I know its nice to get a dog anytime not only Christmas but I feel sorry for the dog in a box all night all alone and probably scared and then in the morning he accually looked like he/she was shaking and all the yelling and shouting oh and also aren't those girls a bit young for a dog yet I mean they only look about 5 or 6 or even 4 and he jumped out of the box because he was frightened
How do you know it was in the box all night? They could have kept the dog at a friends or relatives house the night before and brought it round on Christmas and put it in the box just before the kids seen it.
I highly doubt they would keep the dog in the box all night, this was 5 years ago anyways lol

Ferdinand Alexander Just because they put him in a box? This is stupid. They obviously didn't put him there all night, but right before present opening. Anyways you can also see that there are two huge holes on the sides. You are acting like this is the worst thing that could happen to a dog, but there are actually dogs getting skinned. I mean, get a grip

LIBSIMS I grew up with pets, dogs, cats, you name it. We were taught from day one how to handle them and that they were not toys. They were a responsibility and if we wanted a dog were going to follow certain guidelines. It's as much the parents as it is the kids.
A dog is for life not just for christmas or until the kids or mum gets fed up.
They are going to be such great pals. I love seeing real joy and gratitude in children.

You can tell, from the way the mom says, "I thought we opened them all?" that the parents probably had just put the dog in the box. The box/wrapping paper was most likely just used to make it look like the Christmas present it was.

I totally agree with you, WarriorWasser. Christmas is actually the worst time to bring a new puppy into the household - especially with young children involved. This family would have done better to wait until a week or so after the Holidays, when all the excitement and stimulation of Christmas was over with.
