    Abbott and Costello were one of the most beloved and groundbreaking comedy duos of the 20th century. They rose to fame in the 1950s as box office sensations. As time would go on, Bud Abbott and Lou Costello would find immense success with their popular radio and television series.
    As one-half of this iconic comedy team, Lou Costello's work has withstood the test of time. He helped create a legacy that his two living children have been striving to carry into the future. They've also linked up with Bud Abbott's surviving family members to preserve his memory as well.
    Join Facts Verse as we check in with Costello’s two daughters to see what it was really like growing up as the kids of one of the most famous comics of all time. Costello’s daughters have revealed several unexpected details about his life that most of you likely have never heard.
    We’ll also be taking a closer look back at a few of the darker moments in Costello’s life. While he was a famed funnyman whose life purpose was to bring smiles and laughter to the world, behind the scenes, his life was no laughing matter.

My family used to watch their movies on Sunday Mornings on WPIX 11. I introduced my sons to their sketches and they loved them. It's amazing the timing that these guys had and how they could entertain on a dime when asked. I still laugh every time I hear "Who's on First". Lots of good memories growing up watching them on the TV. RIP Bud and Lou you will always be remembered.

    I'm 77 & watched the Abbott & Costello t.v. show when it was first on, ca. 1952, as a 6 year old & loved it! However,
    they did repeat their vaudeville routines very often, in both their films & television show & rarely included newer
    material! But, I thoroughly enjoyed seeing their movies in the 1950's, until Lou's untimely death at 52! Having a child
    myself, who is now 52, I now realize how young Lou was then & how America lost him too soon ! R.I.P.Lou & Bud!

    Carol Costello was also married to Gregg Jakobson, an American songwriter who was a friend and songwriting partner of Dennis Wilson of the Beach Boys, and a prosecution witness in the murder trials of members of the Manson Family. Jakobson met Charles Manson in 1968 through Wilson and became friends with him, eventually paying expenses for Manson to record some of his own compositions...

    I remember watching Abbott & Costello on Saturday afternoons along with the Marx Brothers, The Bowery Boys, Gene Autry, Ken Maynard, Roy Rogers & Dale Evans. Hard to believe Carole Costello had singer and actor Dean Martin for a father in-law. Sadly, both of Bud Abbott's children have passed away. Billy died in 1997 and his daughter Rae Victoria Wheeler passed away in 2021 at age 79. The obituary mentioned that her late father was Bud Abbott of the Abbott & Costello comedy duo.

    I remember about 25 years ago our daughter called us on her 20th birthday -which was themed as an 50's party - to tell us she had just seen the 2 funniest people she had ever seen. They were using old videos as a back ground to the party and she went into great detail to explain to us hoe they had made to movie look old by shooting it in Black and White. Staci said she almost peed her pants when she hears Who's On First. And she asked us if we had ever hears of them? she could not remember their names but she did remember the fat one kept calling out Hey Abbot. My wife and I almost died laughing by her question. She is now 45 and has developed a fetish for watching old movies and old British movies . I guess we were able to pass on some history to one of the girls at least. Sure warms out hearts when ever my wife and I get to watch one of their movies....or one of the Francis the Talking Mule. Hollywood just not make movies like that any more sadly a lost art of basic old funny slap stick

    They didn’t write Who’s On First. It was performed on Vaudeville by many comedy teams before them.
    They became famous for the routine because they were the first to do it on radio.

    I was curious to watch this video because Lou Costello's treatment of others has been very well documented. His feud's with Bud Abbott were mostly about money because Lou believed he was the "talent" in the act and deserved the lion's share of their earnings. It was a tenuous relationship. His hard hearted demeanor towards most people softened considerably when around children. Even those who despised Lou Costello acknowledged that he was a loving and devoted father to his children and was very kind to kids in general.

    • @MrSnappinit
      @MrSnappinit Před rokem

      Well, whatever you read was wrongly documented. Lou and Bud were very competitive but were closer than brothers. Two men who for twenty-six years spent more time with each other than they did with their wives so yes, they argued, and fought but remained close until Lou's death which nearly destroyed Bud. Lou's generous and benevolent acts, from opening his home to military, raising $85mm during a physically draining war bond tour in 1942 to paying for the surgeries and medical treatments of people he never met all pay tribute to who he really was. Cheers.

      @kevinfessler6831 Před rokem

      @@MrSnappinit Ok. I mean, I'm not going to argue. I've read/heard it from numerous sources and the Lou/Bud relationship was always consistent as was Lou's treatment of others with the notable exception of his kids and children in general. I think Lou Costello was somewhat of a complex man with different sides...but perhaps he's the saint you purport. I hope he was.

      @alpha-omega2362 Před rokem

      @@kevinfessler6831 you might be getting him confused with Jerry Lewis....but anyway, as with many comics, Lou probably suffered from depression, especially after his infant son died which I believe was a drowning in the family swimming pool?... also Lou was a great dramatic actor, which was showcased in a Wagon Train episode..he played a character who was drunk and he did it so well that after that people actually believed he was an alcoholic....

    • @kevinfessler6831
      @kevinfessler6831 Před rokem

      @@alpha-omega2362 I'm not getting them confused but yes, Lewis was an EXTREMELY difficult man to work with. Martn & Lewis also had their issues because quite frankly it was almost impossible to work with Lewis and maintain good relations. It's amazing Dean stuck it out for as long as he did but the money they were pulling in was something to behold.
