How to Process Hydrangeas

  • Over my 30 years of working with cut flowers, one of the biggest issues I hear time and time again is how do I process hydrangea’. I’ve heard numerous clients express that they like them but they’re afraid of them, especially here in the south. Imagine a sweltering Saturday afternoon wedding and the bride wants hydrangea, oh my! Like the name would imply, hydra…..is a big hint that this flower likes water. But nothing to fear when hydrangea are processed and selected properly.

    Omg you are right on I always wondered if rubber bands had an affect on the stem yes it does especially with hydrangeas .

      I totally agree! Thanks for the encouragement. I've seen other companies try and ship without plastic, and they seem to rot more. I think the answer is to buy seasonal and buy as local as you can! All the best, Scott

      @@theflowerpodcast Exactly. I live in a small country so Irish flowers (if people choose to buy them!) are never flown. I guess in the states they have to fly
