Cars have gotten better in so many ways except working on them, Honda has a leader for many many years!!
Yes
My first car was a 76 civic. Loved it.
Cool!
How much are they worth nowadays?
Their forte was hills, where you could drive a gear HIGHER than rivals. It left others like the Beetle and Corolla for dead. The 1.5 L four door had so much torque it would MAINTAIN 100km/h on highway hills and cruise on 110 km/h easily. Thanks for sharing Champ!
Ya learn something new every day!
@@KiwiCarLife Same here. You said it was built in New Zealand. Weren't these Civics all fully imported? That model also was released in 1973 (maybe even '72 in Japan).
This is the wife of pictured. I had the left hand version of this car (because America). I bought it when it was nine years of age, in 1985. Oh what fun it was! My first car. It was a joy! Never since then have I enjoyed a car more... as it seemed an extension of myself. I am of small stature, and it fit like a glove. Thank you for the run.... I truly appreciate it!
Nice!
Aww man this car brings back great memories when I was young. Used to sit on my dad's lap pretending I was driving his car!
Haha nice man
Crazy how even the newest Honda Civic, it’s still has great MPG. I have a 2020 and $20 and I’m good for the week
Wow that’s great
I had one while going to university. I enjoyed driving it more than any car I owned before or since. Thanks for the memories!
You're welcome!
Great to see a fellow kiwi making cool car videos 😀 old cars are just amazing and that civic looks pretty damn mint would love to have her in my garage! Also you think you ever could make a review of the aprillia sr50 motard? That would be awesomeeee!
I haven't made a "review" as such, but one of my very early videos compares it to the suzuki uz50.

My father bought my brother and I a front wheel drive dark blue honda civic 1976 to go back and forth to high school. 42 mikes to the gallon and the cost of the brand new 1976 honda civic was $32.00 dollars! Awesome!
That’s remarkable!
@@KiwiCarLife Thank you, God bless!
My first purchase was a used 76 civic. Loved this little car. Have had a civic in my driveway ever since.
Nice man! Glad to hear you've stuck with Honda
This was my first car; kept it from 1976 to 1986. Great fun around town at 20-50 mph, and even pretty good on Lake Tahoe mountain roads.
Optimistically, I think in a few years we'll get 500kg/1200lb electric runabouts kind of like this, optimized for slower-than-freeway speeds.
Cool man, yeah quite possibly...
I cannot wait to be controlled even moreso than now.
American watching from the State of Rhode Island in the U.S-many thanks for the profile and-virtual drive-entirely fun and interesting-an excellent use of 4 & a half minutes-PEACE! 🙂
Thanks man
I still remember riding in my dad's blue civic...Damn that was a long time ago. 😭
Nice!
my friend bought one in 76, we bombed around with all year--- japanese ingenuity , very reliable. great times--- all those years ago
Nice!
awesome video mate 👌
Cheers!
It may not be fast today but in the 70s it was, on his category one of the fastest specially for 0-60 mph and also with exellent grip.
Yeah certainly from my perspective, it did not feel like a 50 year old car.
Oldies like me get this warm fuzzy feeling when I see a video like this. Not because I've pissed my pants, but because my first car was a yellow Gen 1 Civic just like this one.
A tachometer? Looxury, as any of the 4 Yorkshiremen would say. When I was a young un learning to drive back in the 70s, my instructor would respond with a curt "listen to the engine" when asked when to shift. Thanks to thrifty car makers like Honda back then, I've now got this mental tachometer hardwired to my brain. Nowadays, I don't even need to look at the tacho anymore. I just "listen to the engine", even if it is only to enjoy the induction sound.
Haha awesome man
man those streets are tight.
Yeah quite
Love this car
Yeah it's mean
Gorgeous
Lovely vehicle
My first car! I was the smiling teen behind the wheel!
Hahah nice man
Very cool
Indeed
in my opinion you can easily compare this to a 1976 1st gen datsun 100a
they look and almost sound the same and i find that cool for some reason
Yeah true
So cool I have 4 of them but that all need a bit of work
Oh I can imagine for a car that old
Yay
Yay indeed
I have only one question, How in the world is there no rust? it looks phenomenal!
Yeah dunno aye - been very well looked after
@@KiwiCarLife seems so. I wish I had that kind of attention and patience for stuff like that. great video btw lol
@@braykoe2401 cheers
Where would I find tires for one of these??? I have not found anyone who carries this tire size. Is there a good substitute?
No idea sorry, not my car
I see this car on display at the honda dealership on the bus to saint pats
You know it!
Looks like driving a gocart with busted steering 😂 really do love more modern Civics, though, one my first cars was a 2000 LX Civic and it was an absolute joy. Tight turns and tight suspensions are the Hallmarks of the Civics I've driven. The opposite of the "floating palace" cars of the 1980s, like the Grand Marquis and Crown Victoria.
Nice haha
Is it having independent rear suspension? On a basic car from the 70s?
Not sure tbh. Maybe?
yes, all civic generations
@@carlos-m20 Do the new ones have independent rear too?
Did they let you use it
Yeah I took it out on a lunch break
1974 was not a first generation. 1974 was the break away Civic. I owned one, and loved it. They had rack and pinion steering.
Oh yes
Old school
Yes
No power steeri g and that easy to drive?
Yeah man skinny tyres and slow rack
Yessss! Lol
Yuuuurs
💊🦋
Lovely
I'm sure it doesn't have vacuum assisted brakes. Japanese cars changed the game back then. They were easy to drive and reliable. Only problem, they were rust buckets.
Yeah defs
I thought they had all rusted away by the mid 80s. I havent seen a early Honda on the road in YEARS. The rusted so easily.
Haha yeah as did most 70s cars
I dont think any car had a Cat Converter in 1976
Yes
It looks like ur on the wrong side of the road man then again I’m American so Idk traffic laws over there man
Yeah in NZ we drive on the left
WHAT IN THE FUCK IS 38 KILOWATTS
