Their forte was hills, where you could drive a gear HIGHER than rivals. It left others like the Beetle and Corolla for dead. The 1.5 L four door had so much torque it would MAINTAIN 100km/h on highway hills and cruise on 110 km/h easily. Thanks for sharing Champ!

@@KiwiCarLife Same here. You said it was built in New Zealand. Weren't these Civics all fully imported? That model also was released in 1973 (maybe even '72 in Japan).

This is the wife of pictured. I had the left hand version of this car (because America). I bought it when it was nine years of age, in 1985. Oh what fun it was! My first car. It was a joy! Never since then have I enjoyed a car more... as it seemed an extension of myself. I am of small stature, and it fit like a glove. Thank you for the run.... I truly appreciate it!

I haven't made a "review" as such, but one of my very early videos compares it to the suzuki uz50.

My father bought my brother and I a front wheel drive dark blue honda civic 1976 to go back and forth to high school. 42 mikes to the gallon and the cost of the brand new 1976 honda civic was $32.00 dollars! Awesome!

This was my first car; kept it from 1976 to 1986. Great fun around town at 20-50 mph, and even pretty good on Lake Tahoe mountain roads.
Optimistically, I think in a few years we'll get 500kg/1200lb electric runabouts kind of like this, optimized for slower-than-freeway speeds.

Oldies like me get this warm fuzzy feeling when I see a video like this. Not because I've pissed my pants, but because my first car was a yellow Gen 1 Civic just like this one.
A tachometer? Looxury, as any of the 4 Yorkshiremen would say. When I was a young un learning to drive back in the 70s, my instructor would respond with a curt "listen to the engine" when asked when to shift. Thanks to thrifty car makers like Honda back then, I've now got this mental tachometer hardwired to my brain. Nowadays, I don't even need to look at the tacho anymore. I just "listen to the engine", even if it is only to enjoy the induction sound.

Looks like driving a gocart with busted steering 😂 really do love more modern Civics, though, one my first cars was a 2000 LX Civic and it was an absolute joy. Tight turns and tight suspensions are the Hallmarks of the Civics I've driven. The opposite of the "floating palace" cars of the 1980s, like the Grand Marquis and Crown Victoria.
