  • Waste not, want not when it comes to South African "smiley," or boiled sheep's head. A part of the animal that people might discard in tonier neighborhoods is a popular dish in Cape Town's working-class Langa township. Many consider the ears, eyes, and tongue to be the tastiest parts.

I've been to Langa myself. We got ourselves a smiley and took it to this local butcher where you buy and braai your own meat. We got some chicken lamb chops and beef sausages. Then we went to a local pub where we played pool and drank carling's Black Label and Castle milk stout. Great people great food great times

My helper brought one into the house once. I nearly barfed and I can tolerate a lot of different food but just the smell of this, let alone the look!
