    How can Shopify handle situations where someone orders 5 of one item, so those 5 can't fit into the normal-sized package for one?

    I have custom profiles set up but when someone ordered 3 of the same item they were only charged shipping for one item. How do I change it so each item is charged? Shopify told me I had to setup packages but in packages I don't see how to link a package to a product. My products range in weight from 8 oz to 200 lbs.

    THANK YOU.. I think most of the hangup on figuring out shipping is when people buy more than one product that it is going into the right packaging. That is what I am having issues with. Making sure that only 1=3 items go into let's say regional box b... or they could also fit into priority box, or a bubble wrap envelope.

      Excellent point, the one item purchase is easy! Once you have multiple items with different dimensions and weights shipping on Shopify becomes a little more complex. Hopefully, as the number of items increase you can pickup some space savings and come out a bit ahead with shipping costs. I dont recommend trying to make money with shipping but sometimes if you are "eating it" on other orders it may all balance out in the end.

      After you choose your shipping zone, when you add a rate, choose your own rate and create different rates. For example, I sell paper. I know that up to 2 packs fit in a flat rate envelope, bet 3 and 8 packs fit in in a medium flat rate box and from 9 packs and up in a large flat rate box. In the product listing I marked that 1 pack weighs 1 lb. I created 3 different rates as follows:
      Rate1. Transit time I selected economy, under conditional pricing I selected by item weight. For minimum weight I selected 0 lb and for maximum 2.99 lb at the rate of $10.40. That means that when a customer purchases up to 2 packages of paper they pay $10.40 shipping.
      Rate2: Transit time I selected economy, under conditional pricing I selected by item weight. For minimum weight I selected 3 lb and for maximum 8.99 lb at the rate of $17.10. That means that when a customer purchases between 3 and 8 packages of paper they pay $17.10 shipping.
      Rate3: Transit time I selected economy, under conditional pricing I selected by item weight. For minimum weight I selected 9 lb and for maximum I left it blank at the rate of $22.80. That means that when a customer purchases 9 packages of paper and up they pay $22.80 shipping.
      The downside of this is that I need to check once in a while if USPS changed their shipping rates and manually update the shipping rates, but at least I don't lose in shipping and I charge the customer fairly based on USPS prices. I hope this helps.

    When you are adding a rate and you use the carrier rates to calculate rates there is a paragraph under Service that I could use clarity on. This is when you are using the Shopify discounted rates. It say "rates based on your customer's address and the weight and dimensions of their order". I know where the weight is entered in the product but where do these dimensions come from? Also as far as understand Shopify only allows you to use one default box size. What does this section mean? Thank you.

    when you have your rate and carrier rate both turned on, it shows both of them when someone is checking out?

  • @kimhesketh2016
    @kimhesketh2016 Před 6 měsíci

    In the section where you add the package sizes you can only use one of them as the default package to calculate rates at checkout. What is the point of having the other packages if Shopify only lets you use one size?

    Good to know you can go into the code and change packing slip details. Great video, but what if I am dropshipping my products from two different stores, one in the USA and one in the UK? Both have apps so I was thinking I could just set each individual item to the automatic setting with the app/carrier? Do you think that would calculate the accurate shipping? Is there a way to check to make sure the shipping is set to the right settings without making a purchase? Any help would be appreciated :)

      You can test shipping rates for specific package types, sizes and destinations with carrier calculates shipping rates enabled. If you are on basic Shopify plan paying monthly, move to the annual plan and you will then have access to carrier calculate shipping rates. Otherwise you need to be on Shopify Plus or Advanced plans. You can then manage your integration (whichever shipping carrier you setup) and do a test order. This might be the best router since you have two location and they are not in the same country.

    This is a great video. Very clear and concise. I have a question about the handling fees you added for Alaska & Hawaii & Canada. Were those necessary to add or was that for demonstration only? When the postal codes or ZIP codes are entered does the shipping companies not give correct shipping fees to those far away places? Thank you.

    • @ecommnewbienuggets
      @ecommnewbienuggets  Před rokem

      Great questions, the shipping and handling fee is really for packaging cost, padding, and labor cost involved with shipping a product that you may encounter. Doesnt matter where the item is actually being shipped, you can add it (or not) at your discretion. Shipping rate calculators all seem to vary with shipping fees, especially with international destinations. Move cautiously had make sure you are covered with the rate being shown, test, test, test. Then go get um!

    • @ecommnewbienuggets
      @ecommnewbienuggets  Před rokem

      It should be driven off of the shipping address you enter. Use one from the country you want to test and continue on to method of payment, your shopping options for that country should then show up.

    I am setting up to have products picked up by USPS from my business, which is also my home. Is there a way to suppress /hide my address on shipping labels? If I get a PO Box it would only be for returns. If I setup a PO Box as my location, then how would I be able to have products picked up from my home studio and shipped to my customers?

    • @ecommnewbienuggets
      @ecommnewbienuggets  Před rokem

      Add a new shipping ("warehouse" or "fulfillment") location as your PO BOX. Then go into your product and switch the inventory to that PO box address ("warehouse"). Make sure to have 0 inventory to your home address.
