Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) over the years have had a roller-coaster run in the IPL, Barring the lone championship victory in 2016, the Hyderabad-based franchise has been unpredictable and has either finished in the top four or in the bottom in their decade of existence. This year fortunes could turn around for the franchise.
Two teams that are desperate to end their title droughts are the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and the Rajasthan Royals (RR). While the former’s trophy cabinet has been running dry for a decade, the latter’s lone title victory in the inaugural edition of the IPL (2008) is becoming a distant memory.
Shubman Gill replaced Hardik Pandya as the new captain of Gujarat Titans. In this year’s auction, GT bagged all-rounder Azmatullah Omarzai who was a standout for Afghanistan in the 2023 50-over World Cup held in India, which could be a like-for-like replacement for Hardik Pandya.
Delhi Capitals (DC) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) will also be in the mix, but it would be interesting how the returning Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul would go about their ways as this IPL edition would be an audition for a spot in the Indian squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup in the Caribbean.
Meanwhile, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) face the difficult task of replicating the success of their women’s team, which won the WPL 2024 title last Sunday. RCB might boast a star-studded line-up including the likes of Faf du Plessis, Virat Kohli and Glen Maxwell but their bowling department remains an issue.
