for those of you who don't understand free speech in america; what these protesters did was not allowed by the first amendment. Too many people think free speech means you can do whatever you want; you can't, you still need to abide by the law -- there are limits. e.g. free speech does not mean you can do the following: incitement, defamation, fraud, obscenity, child pornography, fighting words, and threats. also, you can't protest or demonstrate on private property that doesn't belong to you unless you have explicit permission from the owner. although you are allowed to hold a protest in most public spaces, you may need a permit to do so, depending on where you will be and what you plan to do. These protesters were arrested because they are NOT allowed to protest where they did. in many cases, a lot of what was said by these protesters crossed the line into threats and incitement which are no longer considered protected speech. As for the professor, you would figure she would know better -- guess not. If you break the law, claiming free speech will not save you.

I went to India and there was one teenage girl getting mobbed by a group of what must’ve been 2 dozen men. I don’t know what the heck was going on but that wasn’t right, what they were doing to her. It wasn’t necessarily a SA case but it was a weird situation that makes me sick to this day.

The people were encamped at Emory. The police gave him a lawful order to pack up and leave. That is legal in the United states. The owner/manager of the property can tell undesirables that they are banned from the premises. If you refuse to immediately pack up and leave, then you are trespassing and subject to arrest. When police officers in the United States are making an arrest, outsiders must not interfere with them. By distracting and interfering, you put a police officer's life at risk.

Break the law and this is what happens. The professor will have due process and the right to defend herself in court. If she is a professor at Emory, she is subject to their code of conduct which she signed as a condition of employment. The University has a right to enforce those rules. The US record of defending human rights domestically and abroad is second to none, that’s a fact. What would the world look like if the US had not entered and won WWII?
