You missed a very important point,in k24 the mark/dot on vtc gears will be between the chain links and in k20s the mark/dot will be under the cahin link.also in k24 there would be 8 chain links between the dots.in k20 there would be 7 And you do not need to check TDC in this method when you can see crank pulley timing mark.that method is necessary when you cant see that mark,for example while only changing the cams,you have not removed the timing chain cover

My logic tells me that you rotate the crank with the old chain on until its lined up, and then you take the chain off, and rotate a cam if it is off timing. When it comes to rotating the cams on a k24, can I do it clockwise and counterclockwise? Is there a limit to how much I should turn it? My intake cam is off my a couple gears and I should only have to turn it counterclockwise maybe 10 degrees.. is this ok? Should I be able to do this? Also is there a limit to how much one should crank the engine manually? Could I end up messing up the crank sensor? And lastly is there i limit to how much I can turn the cams clockwise individually?
Can you use the dowell pins in the cams to hold the motor so you can loosen the crank pulley bolt?? My electric impact isn't strong enough so need to use a pry bar. But need the motor locked up before it will work.
Hey man so I did all this and everything lines up but when I turn the motor my chain tensioner gets too tight and my chains get stuck.. and my motor won’t crank any further. Won’t even make 1 full revolution. Any ideas what might be the problem?
I have 2 of them in. Also question which way do you crank the motor by hand? Counter clockwise or clockwise. Because whenever I crank it I hear it click and my chain tensioner just gets tighter and tighter

No more than once but how many rotations does it take ? I make sure its TDC and all my marks line up before i start to confirm my marks again they never line back up to where i started. Thanks for any help
Dave Benoit it will take several rotations in order to go back to the original marks. It happened the same to me when I changed my first ever cambelt. It was driving me nuts because I thought I was doing something wrong. Eric the car guy has a video explains that. I think it is called chain guessing so the chain or belt takes a few rotations in order to go back to the original marks and not to wear out in the same spot. It will wear out evenly.

after adjustment of my valves... n throttle body cleaning.... My engine mow idles at engine timing value of zero... it used to be between 15 n 20... what could be the cause of this retarded timing... engine is k24

Thanks bud for the info i ended up having a bent valve...I replaced the engine,,,The old engine had 192k... The new one has 45K

There is no limit to turning the cams. That will not effect anything as long as you line them up with the rest of the engine marks.

If the timing chain and everything is still connected it should be strong enough yes.

Are your spark plugs still in?

If when you put it on all of the Marks shown line up you should be good to go.

Dave Benoit are you just spinning it around once? It takes several rotations before it goes back to alignment

The engine will have to rotate im guessing 15 or more revolutions but i cant exactly remember but i know the marks will align up again .

You can indeed and I have done it before. Definitely not the easiest and most fun cause it's a very tight fit but its possible

honesty there was no specific size, just whatever i grabbed that had fit in the hole.
How did you time your oil pump chain ?
It's for the stock k24 oil pump, if you upgrade to a k20 oil pump or have a k20, no need to time that.
